I don’t think she likes me

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Ever get that feeling that some people just don’t like you.  A bunch of us decided to go out and play some touch football.  In high school, I was always the first girl picked because I was the "athletic" girl, the one you picked if you wanted to win.  Well, 4 years later, I’m still that "athletic girl", only stronger and faster, so naturally I was the first girl picked.  Well, it turns out that the guy who picked me first, well it turns out one of the girls I didn’t know was his girlfriend and she was really peeved he picked me first instead of her, I don’t think she cared too much for that.  We ended up on the same team anyways, but she kind of glared at me the entire time we were playing, it made me feel kind of uncomfortable.  I kind of didn’t want to turn my back to her, not that she scared me or anything.  But there was just this vibe the whole time, made me nervous.  The game just wasn’t as fun for me after that.  It’s all that guy’s fault, I’m thinking he should have just picked her first so she wouldn’t be burning a hole in my back the whole time, as much as I love to win, winning isn’t everything.  I don’t know why I got caught up in this, I hate drama and I hate getting caught in crap like this.  Blech.

Ever…

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

…had one of those days where you just felt blah?  Where your mind just doesn’t feel like doing anything?  I’m having one of those nights right now.  It’s been a rough rough week and I just really wanted to stay home tonight and chill.  You know, me time.  Nothing on TV so what the heck I thought I’d log on and see what’s up since I’m not usually online on a Saturday night.

Anyways, hope everyone else is having a good nite.   I  myself am looking forward to hitting the hay soon and getting to the gym early tomorrow morning.  Brrr it’s cold here in Chicago, darn that wind, can’t wait for Spring.  Don’t forget about Daylight Savings time tonite everyone!

Finally!

Friday, December 14th, 2007

Sorry I’ve been gone for so long, I’ve been totally swamped since right before Thanksgiving- choreographing and practicing with the dance team, turning in applications for transferring, school projects, school presenations, and more school projects.  I have more or less been able to keep working out through all this and I’m happy to say my diet has been pretty clean, I just haven’t been able to keep up with my fitness routine as of late, but I’ll be back to doing cartwheels and handstands this coming week.  Whee!!
I finished taking my last final on Thursday and am looking forward to some relaxation, which is to say, spending more time in the gym.  I’m especially looking forward to my dance team’s trip to California right after Christmas, should be fun.

Heading off to a Christmas party, gotta pick up something for the white elephant gift exchange, later gators!

Run for fun

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

I ran in a charity 5k run this morning, it was really cold and miserable but hey it’s for charity and I was running with my boyfriend and a few of his friends.  The race pretty much was running around the campus twice or something like that.   I completed the race in 22:07, not quite the goal of 22:00 I set for myself, but pretty good nonetheless- still good for 17th place and I did beat my boyfriend.  HEHEHEH.   Just an FYI, back to the grindstone for me. Got finals to study for.  Later.

All done!

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

I had my session for the Women’s Workout World campaign today, the photographers were really wonderful.  It only took an hour or so and they were very very nice.  My personal favorite (and the one they’re most likely to use) is the one where I’m posing in a simple pink leotard, it’s for a poster I think, but I look fabulous.  There’s this other one where you just see my legs, different leo.  And they even let me keep all the leos they brought for me to use.  And I got paid too, what a deal!    I’ll post the picture when I get it, maybe even use it as my new profile pic!  Looking forward to seeing it in print!

2007 NIU Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships

Monday, November 12th, 2007

So we had the annual NIU Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship today, a small bodybuilding/fitness competition that’s held every year for students and sponsored by local gyms and the college.   Turns out there’s actually a bodybuilding club on campus and they also actually organize the competition, they model their competition after "other comps".  They actually sponsor another event in the Spring, but it’s more like a fitness challenge (ala Galaxy).   There was a pretty good turnout, it’s pretty cool to finally know there are other students on campus who share my zest for fitness.

Anyways I digress, I do that a lot.  This is my first real fitness event and I was a tad nervous.  I’ve been shooting for this all semester- a good first competition with a smaller crowd, convenience and the entry fee was cheap-FREE for students!  And this was my first chance to do my entire routine for the first time in costume.   In public to my music.  And then stand in my new posing suit.  Once I was in the right mindset, I was ready to perform and between you and me I really wanted to just go out there and show off my stuff, you know, show what I can do that pretty much the normal person can’t do.    And I won, hands down from what I’m told, I beat out 9 other girls for the title of Miss NIU Fitness.   I know it doesn’t mean much, it’sl comp against novice competition, but hey, at least I can say I’m a fitness champion for now.   So there it is, chalk up my first victory.

I’m hoping to compete again soon, but you guys who are students who work, teach, train, know how much a schedule can change.

Showtime

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

The Chicago Sports Club held a fitness expo this weekend.  I went with my boyfriend to check it out, but we kind of corralled into participating.  It’s a typical fitness skills competition, like the Galaxy or the Tri-fitness, where you get scored on how well you can bench press 50% of your weight, pull-ups, etc.  The best aggregate score wins.   I was kind of hesitant at first, but my boyfriend convinced me that  it might be kind of fun, so I entered the women’s 18-24 division.

But as it happens, one of the trainers I know happens to work there, and he said they had some exhibitions throughout the day and would I be interested in putting my fitness routine on the floor, he told me it would be a good experience/practice for me and it would be done before the testing started for my division.   It took a bit of convincing, they didn’t care that my costume wasn’t ready yet but finally I was like OK, I’ll do it.

I went home and just grabbed whatever was handy, I think some old cheerleading or dance stuff, to use as a costume.  I was really nervous, this is the first time I’ve put this routine in front of people and I wasn’t even wearing a real costume, but it actually went really really well.   I executed all of my gymnastic and strength moves.  I had to drop one of the tumbling passes, but I nailed the planche and the V-press.  I got a great response when I aerialled into a box split, that was great.    My only complaint was that it wasn’t as smooth as I wanted.     And I didn’t execute any of my strength moves as effortlessly as I would have liked, I think I bobbled.  I still have time to polish it, I’m just happy I made it through with no real hiccups.    Good practice for next month’s competition I’m entering, the NIU Fitness and Bodybuilding Championships- it’s my first "real" competition.  After today I’m looking forward to taking a shot at the Miss NIU title.
Anyways, then I went and competed in the fitness skills competition.  I took first place in my division on the strength of my benching 50% of my bodyweight (65lbs) 29 times, I was surprised no one else was even close, a lot of people came up to compliment me, I think they were impressed by how strong a girl I was.  I saw the final scores, they actually combined all the final scores on one list.  I had the 3rd highest score in the overall women’s category.  But what was funny was that my aggregate score, was top 10 overall overall, that is, my score was better than 1/2 of the guys too.  I guess, pound for pound, I compare pretty well to a guy.  Guess they got owned by a girl, get used to it.   Wow.

Now it’s time to celebrate!

Arming myself

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007
I’m moving arms to a separate day so I can really take my time and concentrate on them. I’m incorporating more drop setting and supersetting. I’m going to rotate the workout every week, (bicep workout 1/tricep workout 2 and then visa versa). I figuer it will look something like:Biceps workout 1 (heavy):
Standing barbell curl - (3 x 40lbx12/20lbx8)
Incline dumbbell curls - (3 x 20lbx12/15lbx8)
Biceps workout 2 (high rep):
Preacher curl with bar/Alternating dumbbell curls (3 x 30lbx15/15lbx15)
Hammer Curls (3 x 15lbx15)
Chinups (3 x BW x 10)
Triceps workout 1 (heavy):
Tricep Pressdown (rope) - (3 x 50lbx12/30lbx8)
Tricep Kickbacks - (3 x 25lbx12/15lbx8)
Triceps workout 2 (high rep):
Skullcrushers/21’s - (3 x 35lbx15/15lbx15)
Overhead Tricep Extension (3 x 40lbsx15)
Dips (3 x BW x 15 reps)

Oops

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

I like to practice my posing in the dance room, it’s usually empty in the evenings so I get some privacy to practice in my suit.  Except for this night, I kind of got distracted when a janitor poked his his head into the room and I was so surprised I ended up walking right into the mirror BANG!.   Oops.   No harm done though my nose is a bit sore and I left a big sweat stain right on the mirror.  Can’t wait until I get into my heels and try it.   Hehehe.    At least he said I looked good, I guess that was the high point.

Anyways, after he left I was cleaning the mirror and I stopped to look myself in the mirror.  I’m really happy with how much my body has changed this year, .  My lower body is getting lean and defined and my upper body, especially my arms, is so much more developed than last year.   I flexed a little and I was surprised at how visible my biceps are, they’re starting to get a baseball like shape and they are definitely harder.  It’s weird for me to think of myself as a hardbody but I guess I am now.  I almost feel like Popeye. :)
