"Now that I can do a pull-up by myself, I want to be able to do at least one dip too. I want to be able to do at least 10 reps of each by the end of the year."

Who knew?

Friday, December 5th, 2008

I was talking about being able to do pullups with some of my friends at dance practice today.  Well, you know how people are, tell them you can do something new and the next thing you know, they want you to show them, like you’re a trained monkey at a zoo.  But I was still riding the high from earlier this week, so I figured, ok this trained monkey’s got some new skills to show off.  By now everyone is watching, so we go find a coatrack, and bam, I knocked out a few reps right there in front of everyone.  I think I surprised them at first, there was a brief stunned silence, then everyone was like clapping and cheering for me, and dare I say, a few looks of jealousy.  I’m still on cloud 9, and if I rode any higher, I’d be in space.  But the way I feel right now, I probably could take off to a galaxy far far away.  Who knew pullups would have a use outside the gym?

I am woman and I can finally do a pull-up!

My big goal for this year was to conquer the pull-up, and today, I finally did my first REAL pull-up, from a full hang no less!!!  And what’s funny, I guess I’ve been underestimating myself, because I felt so good after the first one, I just kept on going, two, three, almost four!!  I felt strong!!!!!!!!  What a great feeling!!!

I can’t tell you what a struggle it was to get here but seeing tangible results gives me such a high, it makes every bit of effort in the gym worth it, very very exciting.  I don’t know where it compares on most people’s whole spectrum of physical fitness, but it ranks high on my list.  And I keep thinking that now I can finally do something that others can’t, I don’t feel like I’m lost in the crowd anymore.  Is that wrong?

Anyways, with almost 4 weeks left in the year, I’m wondering if I can get up to 8 reps.  I think I can.  And then on to next year, I want to up the ante to wide grip pull-ups- I actually think it’s an achievable goal for me now, weird right?
