Dealing with the Inevitable Setback

April 14, 2009

I have to admit since the end of December when I began my journey to regain my health I haven’t experienced any set backs that have seemed too large.  I am a big believer that most of the blogs I read about setbacks are people justifying excuses and trying to make themselves feel like, "It’s OK they ate like crap for 6 weeks straight and forgot where their gym membership was."

It is how we choose to act in times of adversity that determines who we are.  As far as my health I just entered that period.  I didn’t listen to my body, went too heavy on rack dead lifts and hurt my lower back really badly, coupled with the already herniated disks this is not good.  I think the hardest part about dealing with any injury is the unknown time factor.  Not knowing when it will feel good enough to get going again.  I guess my point is physical injuries are probably the most difficult to deal with mentally.  We’ll see if I’m right and deall with the setback the way I believe most people should if they truly desire to be healthy.

Just Enough

March 30, 2009

I’m struggling with the idea of whether or not just enough people in the gym is an actual number.  Just enough people to stay off the equipment I need, just enough people to keep the gym in business, just enough people who know what they are doing and stay out of the way.  When did I become a gym snob?  I certainly have not had the gains of many people on this site, but I know what a good workout feels like and the difference between JUST ENOUGH and a KICK A$$ workout.

The Educated Lifestyle

March 28, 2009

Have you noticed that we are stuck with our body for a cool 78 years or so and most of the population knows nothing about how to make the most of it.

I’ve been there, multiple times, why would we choose to be out of shape?  Why would we choose to shorten our time on this earth intentionally by the choices we make each day?  I am truly excited about the changes I made over the last 13 weeks and the continued changes that are coming.  A little education and desire are a dangerous thing.

If you can make your body into whatever you want it to be, why would you choose to be soft in the middle and resemble the Pillsbury Dough Boy?

From Body for Life to Tri-Phase Training and the Lean Mass Diet I am excited about changing my focus every 12 weeks to create the best ME!

Dedication or Motivation?

March 12, 2009

As I come to the end of my 10th week re-asserting control over my life I realized dedication is the most important difference between those who succeed and those who watch.  It is the difference between losing scale weight and saying diets don’t work.  It is the difference between understanding how to tweak a workout for you and explaining to your friends that it won’t work for you.  Dedication is about commitment and most people cannot commit.  As I walk through my life and friends comment on my transformation they ask what I am doing, before I get 3 sentences in they tell me why it didn’t work for them, why they can’t do it.  Is dedication the simple difference between a CAN DO and CAN’T DO attitude?  I know the answer.
