Learning to Love Rest Days
Yup, it's basically all in the title of this entry. Lifting has been so calming and essential to me lately that I was starting to become resentful of my rest days. I've realized recently how silly this is! Rest days are the perfect opportunity to channel gym-zen outside the gym! Party, dance around, bust out a few poses, and enjoy having energy. That's how you celebrate having muscles, baby!
Yesterday's music-related blog post kind of reminded me of this. There are so many potential triggers that could help me channel gym-zen more often. And I have a feeling that some people live in a state of gym-zen pretty much all the time. I am of the opinion that it's not a mysterious remote destination, it's very practical and applicable! So I'm doing it more often. And loving my rest days are a reflection of that.
Also underappreciated: A good night's sleep. You know that feeling when you're all sleepy and in your pj's under the covers, ready to turn out the bedside lamp? That is one of the best things in the world :D (Assuming the alarm is set for no sooner than 8 hours later.)
Last time I got 8 hours sleep?.......Hmm, let's see, maybe before kids and becoming an old guy fighting with insomnia. That's my biggest fitness related struggle. I love sleep, just can't get enough. Enjoy your rest day.
Those rest days are extremely important. I'm with Al, I can't remember the last time I got 8 hours of sleep. Getting up at 5:00 in the morning, I'm lucky to get 6.5 to 7 hours. I'm working on doing better. But please take the time to get sufficient rest, it is very important for your progress, rejuvenation, and overall well-being.
LOL, I guess us more mature individuals don't get much sleep anymore but not to worry, they say when you get old you don't need as much. Rest days are important because that's when the body does the healing of damage that hard workouts cause. It's all wonderful and should be embraced, you are doing a great job.
A little magical mystery tour...gotta love it. Also love my 8 hours sleep...unlike those older fellas above me. haha Enjoy the rest and recovery, it's all part of the process.
Yeah, Had a good rest weekend and it deff got my motivation back up to hit it again.
