Rough Start

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Ok - so I set this weeks goals - drink at least 10 glasses of water, cup of green tea and an hour of cardio…. As the title states… I’ve been luck if I get 8 glasses of water, no green tea and yesterday was too tired to go for my second 1/2 hour of cardio. I’ve been lousy at what I’ve put in my mouth as well. Monday wasn’t too bad, yesterday I was stress eating by dinner. Wound up having what the family was having ww penne with meatballs… then 3 oreo cookies! My plan was to have grilled chicken over lettuce. I also was eating whatever the kids didn’t eat. Granted it wasn’t hohos or anything, leftover apple and a banana, but still. I was eating every hour or so. So much for the 2 to 3 hours.

So today is a new day. Couldn’t go to the gym early am since my middle boy woke up at 4:30 after the fire hall across the street alarm went off for a good 5 minutes then the babe woke up at 5 and didn’t go back to sleep. I couldn’t just leave her… the hubby went to bed late so I gave him until 6 then kicked him out of bed to get her a bottle. Of course it didn’t help that I drank coffee last night and stayed up to watch law and order SVU. I’m considering a nap as I write this.

Oh, back to the workout. I’m on Julie’s plan (what her trainer gave her to do). I worked Chest, Bi’s and abs. It was a good workout. Definitely broke out in a sweat (which is hard for me to do, just ask Juls) Then after did 30 minutes on the elliptical. I feel great right now. I’ll have to go tonight and do another 30 minutes worth of cardio or maybe go for a run around the neighborhood. Will see what time and family permit.

Have some work piling up around me that I need to get to, not to mention about 5 loads of laundry that I have once again ignored.

Hope you all have a great day.

PS - I came across urbanmommy’s figure competition blog (figurecompetition.blogspot.com/) which I found very interesting. She’s looks amazing. She’s had a great transformation in a year. She will be competing in her first in June. You go girl. Looking awesome!

My next goal

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Last night I spoke to Julofthenile on how I plan on getting to my goal of a 6 pack (or something that resembles a 6 pack) by my 40th… in 6 weeks. I know that my diet will be crucial! I will need to eat clean and limit my carb intake… and it may become non-existent my last week. I also know that my body responds well to cardio so I will need to up my cardio, bringing it to at least an hour every day and by the end, up it even more. 6 weeks is only half of what I did for the last challenge, so it is doable. I took last week off and today is my first day of my second challenge.

I noticed on goforitnicks blog how she would have goals for the week. I like that idea and I think I will try it. So here they are.

I will drink at least 10 glasses of water daily. Drink 1 cup of green tea and avoid picking food… no let me restate that, WILL NOT pick off food from my kids plates! They either eat it or it goes in the garbage… not my mouth! (just one week off and I pick up old habits again)

I will do 1 hours worth of cardio during the day.

I will get up early and get to the gym… back into my routine (one week off and excuses were easy to come up with)

Don’t want to overdo it with goals for the week. I want to make sure that I accomplish them.

Oh… I also saw that "weightsandwords" set goals to do push ups and pull ups… I gave the challenge to my hubby so we will start May 1st with that. 1000 push ups in a month (32 push ups a day + 1 extra on May 31), I just want to be able to do a pull up by the end of the month. For every 1 pull up I do, he has to do 5. I’m gonna be ordering a pull up bar this week. He is competitive so I figure this is one way to get the boy to exercise. He is a busy boy, he teaches so even when he gets home there is still work to do. I hit the gym really early, and I’ve told him that he can workout in the evening, but he gets caught up with everything and he never does. Push ups and pull ups he can do anytime and won’t take long. We may add crunches to the mix too. What would be a good goal for that? 1,500? 3,100?

Well that’s it for now. I also plan on going on Juls workout schedule, so maybe I can build some muscle during all this… NO! One goal at a time… 6 pack!

Ok - now I am done. I will post on how well I’ve done with my drinking and cardio. Today I worked back and tris and did 35 minutes of cardio on the elliptical. Need to get another 1/2 hour in tonight.

Ciao!

Very Funny

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Just thought I would share this email I got today. Enjoy!

A WOMAN’S WEEK AT THE GYM

If you read this without laughing out loud, there is something wrong with you. This is dedicated to everyone who ever attempted to get into a regular workout routine.

Dear Diary,

For my birthday this year, my daughter (the dear)
purchased a week of personal training at the local health club for me

Although I am still in great shape since being a high schoolcheerleader43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give ita try.

I called the club and made my reservations with a personaltrainer named Brad, who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear.

My daughter seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started! The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.

MONDAY:

Started my day at6:00 a.m.Tough to get out of bed, but foundit was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Brad waiting for me. He is something of a Greek god - with blond hair, dancing eyes and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!! Brad gave me a tour and showed me the machines. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which he conducted his aerobics class after my workout today. Veryinspiring!

Brad was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time he was around. This is going to be a FANTASTIC week-!!

TUESDAY:

I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door.

Brad made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air then he put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. Brad’s rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT-!! It’s a whole new life for me.

WEDNESDAY:

The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn’t try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot.

Brad was impatient with me, insisting that my screamsbothered other club members. His voice is a little too perky for early in the morning and when he scolds, he gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying. My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Brad put me on the stair monster. Why the hell would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Brad told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. He said some other shit too.

THURSDAY :

Brad was waiting for me with his vampire-like teeth exposed as his thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn’t help being a half an hour late, it took me that long to tie my shoes.

Brad took me to work out with dumbbells. When he was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. H e sent some skinny bitch to find me.

Then, as punishment, he put me on the rowing machine — which I sank.

FRIDAY :

I hate that Brad more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, little #@*. If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat him with it.

Brad wanted me to work on my triceps. I don’t have anytriceps! And if you don’t want dents in the floor, don’t hand me the damn barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich. The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher.

Why couldn’t it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?
SATURDAY :

Brad left a message on my answering machine in his grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing him made me want to smash the machine with my planner. However, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel.

SUNDAY :
I’m having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my daughter (the little shit) will choose a gift for me that is fun — like a root canal or a hysterectomy. I still say if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds

I’m DONE!!!

Monday, April 21st, 2008

The challenge ended with no grand finale. No confetti falling from the sky as I did my measurements and weighed myself. I’m so glad it’s over. My main goal was to get through 12 weeks, which was big for me. Especially since my progress was slow.

So my stats: lost 10 lbs over all. I was hoping for more but… I thought that because I stopped breastfeeding before I started the challenge that the lbs would just fall off of me…nope. Sad to say, I lost the last 5 lbs this past week… because I really cut my diet and was taking a fat burner. Don’t know if I would have lost that amount of weight if I didn’t do those things. Oh well. The saying "muscle weighs more than fat" doesn’t really apply to me this time. You’ll see with my measurements below. I’d believe it more if I had lost more inches.

Measurements - lost 1/2 in the chest. 1 3/4 in the waist, 1 1/2 in the hips, calves stayed the same, thighs lost a total of 1/2 inch between both, and gained in my biceps.

My next goal is a 6 pack or at least something that resembles one by my 40th in June. I will be working out with my girl Juls, so that should be fun. I know she is going to kick my butt! I will up my cardio. Now that we have nice weather, I will try to run outside in the evening after the kids go to bed, try to do it every night.

Here is a picture of my abs at the end of the challenge. I still need to take my after pics. Hopefully soon.

Ciao for now.

abs at end of challenge

I’m shrinking!

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Ok, shrinking may be a little extreme, but I am finally seeing results. Weighed myself yesterday and I was 2 lbs less than my last weigh in last week, weighed myself again this morning… down 2 more lbs.! Whoopeeeee! Loss of 9 lbs from the start of this venture.

Measurements are going down as well. I haven’t taken any official measurements yet. Will save that for Saturday…. the end of my Body for Life Challenge. I will be so glad to be over with it. Looking to do something new. I didn’t get the results I was hoping for, but I have to keep reminding myself that I’m no spring chicken and it’s not going to happen over night like them younger days. I will do another 12 week challenge, but will take a month off or something, this way I can workout with my girl Juls. Today I got to jump in on chest and bi’s with her for a few sets. I was great. I did 21’s with her at 40 lbs! And I saw muscles! I actually have biceps! You may not see them normally, but they are there… I stood under the lights to get the full affect. lol.

My next goal is to have 6 packish abs by my birthday in June, my 40th!

Baby girl is crying so I need to tend to her. You all have a great day.

Thanks!

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Don’t have much to say except thank you to all for helping me out of my dark hole. I am back on the horse. A couple of nights ago I did break into a bag of OREOs and had only 5. My husband did try to stop me… "you really don’t want that" as I stuffed one in my mouth. "Ok, so you really don’t want another" as I stuffed another. I enjoyed the processed taste to its fullest! The man tried but he knew better not to get in between me and the OREOs or else he would lose a hand or something.

Last night I was once again tempted by the dang OREOs but didn’t eat any. Got up this morning and went to the gym and struggled through the workout, but got it done. The end of this challenge is near. Julofthenile gave me a nice pep talk this morning telling me that my body has changed, even if I don’t see it. She is right. I am smaller than I was. But in my eyes, I look the same… same stomach (though smaller), hanging over my pants, past my boobs (my boobs have shrunk as well). We are our own worst critic. It was rather a funny sight, as we stood in her kitchen, shirts up, pants down and comparing our fat. Talking about how it is changing, more doughy, softer and not as hard. If anyone were looking through her windows they would really wonder what the hec we were doing.

Anyways… so I continue… and thank you all for your encouraging words.

If you are looking for a good laugh ladies (guys will enjoy it as well, but it is aimed for moms) go to: http://www.inthemotherhood.com

Have a grand day all.

Still waiting for the magic

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Ok, here I am at the beginning of week 11… Aunt flow is visiting, but not much as far as results.  I know she may influence it some… but come on! I only have 11 more days until the end of this challenge. My luck, nothing will happen and I will go into a deep dark hole with lots of chocolate, potato chips, ice-cream, pizza, french fries….

I’ve let my patience grow. Something really needs to happen soon. Flow or no flow! I am physically tired. I’m done already.

Ciao for now.

BTW**updated**

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Seeing some progress, waist down around 3/4 inches, down a 1/4 inch in the hips. Weight still the same and did my BF, still the same. Just happy to see some progress. Aunt flow due to visit this week so… not expecting too much more.

Today I have an appointment to get waxed. I’m getting a B.I.T. (Brazilian in training). Just another detail to finishing the challenge. Want to look good for my after picture. This will be interesting. Juls wants me to call her while I’m getting it done. She’ll know its me when she answers the phone to someone screaming. :-o

Have a grand ol day!

UPDATE: Had the wax job and well… it wasn’t that bad. I imagined it being like the scene in "40 Year Old Virgin" but surprisingly it felt like a bandaid getting pulled off. I think if I went for the whole kit and kaboddle, that would be a different story. I’m not saying that parts didn’t hurt, but the overall experience wasn’t bad. Since it takes about a month or two to grow out, it is definitely worth the money! I would NEVER attempt to do it myself. I tried waxing my leg once a long time ago and couldn’t do it. I learned my lesson. It’s better to have someone else do it. She also did a great job on my brows. They look natural… in the past I’ve had too much taken off and they looked like two threads over my eyes.

Also forgot to mention that I did 90lbs on the bench with no assists! Wahoo! Also did my next set at 80 lbs for 12 and no assists!! I am getting stronger! (I’ve always needed at least 2 assists)

Anyhoo, that is my update. You all have a great evening. :)
