5 tips to getting sick in a car during a blizzard

Ok, maybe a really bad snow storm… the roads were pretty bad.

Tip 1: If you are going to be sick… you shouldn’t be driving. Fortunately for me, my husband was the driver for the night. If you are going to blow chunks and you are behind the wheel… pull over! It’s impossible to drive and aim for the bag at the same time. If a bag is not available, an open door would work as well.

Tip 2: Always have extra grocery bags available in you car. Be sure that it doesn’t have any holes in it (son #2 had to throw up during a road trip. I grabbed a bag and flew from the front seat to the back seat of our van in split seconds, reaching him in time with the bag… unfortunately, the bag had a hole and it all wound up on his lap anyway). Cheesecake factory bags are well constructed and can would work well. It was date night and mine came in handy. Remember to take the food out first.

Tip 3: It’s always smart to have baby wipes in the car. They come in handy for anything from cleaning off the peanut butter grin from your son’s face to wiping your mouth after.

Tip 4: Paper towels! always good.

Tip 5: If you are feeling ill, stay home. Date night will just have to be another night.

If you haven’t guessed by now… I got sick, in our car, while driving home in the snow. My husband’s school competition was cancelled due to the snow, my shopping trip was also cancelled. We had his parents lined up to watch the kids so we figured we would take advantage of it. Around 2, I began to feel a little whoosey. Needless to say, it just continued to get worst. Today, I still feel lousey. Haven’t been able to eat much. Even water was making me feel crappy. But for dinner I had 9 grain dry toast and it sat well. I didn’t get to run today as I hoped. Hopefully tomorrow I will have enough energy to do upper body tomorrow. Despite emptying my stomach content and eating much you would have thought I would have lost a couple pounds… nope.

Well, I guess that’s it for now. Hoping tomorrow is a better day.

Ok - here is my story…
Monday started its usual way, good workout in the am, hung out with julofthenile while waiting for preschool to start, dropped off #3 at daycare and headed into work. I get a company wide email talking about the state of the company, next steps, blah blah blah. I get to work on some photo retouching/rendering due by EOD. About an hour in, my boss comes to my desk asking "Can I see you for a minute?" As i get up, I look over to a co-worker to give her a funny face but she wasn’t looking. Proceeded to his office, he closes the door and as he walks around his desk he says "this is going to be hard to do…" I immediately think, "I’m gonna get canned!" A half smile/smirk comes to my lips. He goes on to state blah blah blah, yada yada yada, retainer was reduced considerably, blah blah blah and due to your part-time status, I have to let you go." HE DID. I GOT LET GO! I was like "ok", facial expression didn’t change - no tears, half smile, I think I might of surprised him. We talked a little more, shook hands and I walked out. I was shocked that it happened. A total of 5 people got let go that day. Funny thing was, that morning after that company email (before being called into his office), a coworker came up to me asking me what I thought it meant and I jokingly said "as long as I get unemployment, I’ll be fine" as I bounced up and down on my exercise ball (that is what I sat on. It is very comfortable and you can do abs while you wait for the computer to process something)… little did I know.

Soon after walking out of the boss’s office I texted my husband and julofthenile. When I went to pick up my son from preschool, I saw juls and she gave me a high 5 and asked me if I wanted to ride along with her on her appointment. We’ve talked some about me working with her next year, so this was a great opportunity to see her in action. I was an odd ride considering it was something so unexpected, but enjoyable because Juls and I had some quality girl time sans the kids. Today I went back to collect my things, including my ball. It was very odd. I have been with this company before it was a company. I freelanced for them when it was just 2 of the partners almost 7 years ago. The third partner came and game me a hug goodbye…he is not a hugger, so that was huge! It sucks to get laid off, even if it makes sense, it still sucks.

So, now I am a free woman, no job to burden me. I guess I really need to start looking again, update my website since I haven’t done that in ages, write a resume, which I haven’t done in an even longer time. The kids are in child care for the rest of the week then next week I will have them. I still plan on going to the gym early. Just need to get into stay at home mom mode again. It’s been a while. Also have to schedule time to get my professional work done (portfolio, resume, website…) and whatever freelance work that may come in. I totally plan on enjoying my time with the kids, attempt to keep the house cleaner than it has been, and maybe even have dinner on the table for when my hubby gets home. We shall see.

So, that is my story for today. Yesterday was cardio and I ran at 9 mph for 15 seconds. Hope to increase that to 20 seconds the next time I do cardio on Thursday. Today was upper body and I had a good work out, I’m learning to really push myself, which is a little tough when you are working out by yourself. It is so easy to just give up. Eating will be interesting now that I am home. I always did better at work. Drinking the same. I will have to figure out a system to keep me on track.

You know, maybe I will lay down for a nap… I can now, so why the heck not.
