Good Training Session

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

I trained legs today. Squats, Leg Press, Thigh Ext., Leg Curls and Calf Raises.  I topped out at 315 on squats, which is a bit disheartening since i used to be able to hit 405 for a double.  Regardless, I really pushed it and feel great.

In the past 3 weeks, I’ve lost 10 lbs, so I’m very satisfied wih my progress.  In addition, all of my lifts have been going up.  Slowly, but still going up.  Slow and steady wins the race, as they say.

Stay Strong,

Eric

Late Night Workout

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

My daughter is sick, which can obviously put the brakes on training.  Nothing serious just a cold, but a 2 year old miserable with a cold is a handful.  After she went to sleep, I did manage to get in a quick workout for delts and abs.  I am glad I worked out because in the past consistency has been a problem, but I’ve been making a concerted effort to not miss workouts even if I have to do them late at night.

I have to say this approach has definitely helped and I’ve lost 9lbs since the beginning of May plus all my lifts have gone up.  I’ve also gotten much more consistent with my diet and supps, which has definitely helped.

Going Forward

Monday, May 26th, 2008

I had a great workout today, hitting back and forearms.  While  was drinking my whey protein shake, it struck me that "going forward" and pushing the limit is what training is all about.  Most people are convinced that they are destined to grow weaker as they age, but training is about saying "hell no" to this idea.  One of my Muay Thai trainers always tells me that we are lucky to feel what it is like to push ourselves through the pain barrier because most people don’t feel anything.  He’s right.  We are lucky.

Chest/Triceps/Biceps

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

I had a great workout.  Unfortunately, due to tendonitis in my shoulder I cannot bench press.  So I had to resort to Hammer Strength machine, which actually gave me a very good workout.  My diet is back on track and I feel great.  I even did some spring planting after the gym.  Tons of energy.

Active Rest

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

I did some light cardio today, nothing too intense just some active rest.  I think I’ve been burning the candle at both ends between lifting, BJJ and Muay Thai.  Even doing light cardio, my leg actually buckled and I had to catch myself.  Aside from being embarassing, I might be training a bit too much.

I’ll check my progress over the next few weeks.  If my lifts start going down, I’ll pull back a bit.

Good Workout Now For Some Fun

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

I just finished working out and feel pretty good.  I worked on rack pulls to start and then hit biceps, triceps and forearms.  I actually did a double with 455 on the rack pulls, which isn’t much for a lot of the people on this site, but it is for me.  Overall, I set a nice pace and got good workout.  I made sure to finish off with abs.  In about 4 weeks, I’ll put up some progress pics.  Hopefully, they’re good.

Now that my workout is done, I’m going to NYC to watch a Muay Thai match. One of my instructors is fighting so I am excited.  Then afterwards I may allow myself a little break and have a drink (just one).

Day Off

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Today was my first rest day in 10 days.  I know I need to slow my pace down.  I just started keeping a food journal to keep track of what I’ve been eating.  I have to say it helps keep me honest.  Before I eat something, I find I think about whether it is healthy or not, whereas before I ddin’t give it as much thought.

I believe that I am on track to have some respectable "after" pics for the MuscleTech transformation contest.  That is my primary goal for the next couple of months.  Good luck to all of the other contestants.

Need a Rest

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

I haven’t had a day off from working out in 10 days.  The problem is that in addition to hitting the weights, I train in BJJ and Muay Thai, which are pretty intense workouts in themselves.

Last night, I didn’t get to workout until 10:30pm because my son would not go to sleep.  I actually had a decent Back workout, but I was dragging this morning.    Today was more of the same.  I trained Muay Thai and we did five of what they call "hurricane" rounds, which works out to 150 kicks per leg on the pads plus some techniques.  Damn, you would think I’d be ripped by now.  Oh well, tomorrow’s another day, but I think I am going to take a well deserved rest day.

Good Workout

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

I had a great Muay Thai workout today, lots of work hitting the pads.  I was surprised I had as much left in the tank as I did, since starting last Sunday I’ve been restricting carbs to a little under 50 grams a day.  I feel good, but I’m constantly hungry.  I will be hitting Back/Biceps tomorrow, which I am pysched about.
