I had two good workouts over the course of the past two days, but I can’t seem to get on track. I have been stuck in a rut where I get a couple of good workouts a week, but not enough to reach my goals. I’m just not striking the correct balance between work, family and training. I’ve been working too many hours and not spending enough time on myself or my family.
I feel like now is the time in my life to make the necessary changes since it doesn’t get any easier. Anyway, I’ve bitched enough.

I went to my Muay Thai class tonight, which was pretty hard. To be honest, after 5 weeks away I was sucking wind. Still all in all, I’m glad that I went. I had thought that there was a BJJ class after Muay Thai so I brought my gi with intentions of doing two classes, but I had the schedule mixed-up. If all goes well, I will get to a BJJ workout Wed and another Muay Thai class Friday. Tomorrow is leg day and Thursday is chest and back, so I have a pretty full week.
It is amaziing how much conditioning you can lose after a short layoff.

I had two very good workouts in a row. Yesterday was back & chest and today I hit delts & arms. Tomorrow should be an interesting day. I will be taking my first classes since the surgery. I will be doing BJJ and Muay Thai classes, which works out to 2 1/2 hours. This serves as my interval training (hitting pads, calisthetics, plometrics plus grappling).
That’s it for now.

I worked shoulders and biceps today, which felt great. It is hard coming back to training after having to take time off. 5 weeks feels like an eternity, but I’m back on track. If all goes well, I will be lifting Mon, Tues and Wed. Thurs and Fri will be Muay Thai and BJJ. I can’t wait to get a full weeks worth of training under my belt. Still, I can’t lift too heavy until the doctor gies me the green light, so I’m going moderate (8 to 12 reps) with the weights.

Tomorrow will be my first day back training. I couldn’t lift weights or even due cardio per my doctor’s orders following surgery for a deviated septum (four weeks). I still have a little bleeding, so I can’t lift heavy. So tomorrow it will be complexes with light weight and heavy bag work.
Before the surgery my doc had said I couldn’t work out for two weeks, after the surgery it changed to four weeks. So much for full disclosure.

I am 1 week post surgery for the deviated septum. I haven’t been able to workout, which is driving me nuts. To be honest, I can barely breath due to the swelling. The doc says in about another week I can begin working out, but even so I have to avoid heavy lifting for about two weeks after that. I can’t risk blowing the stitches and cauterized membranes. Gross.
Anyway, I’m done bitching.

I’ve got sugery in two days for my deviated septum. I asked my doctor again and he restated that I should not exercise for 2 weeks post surgery. That is going to put a crimp on the MuscleTech contest. I think I’ve made decent gains, but I’ve got to sit on my hands for the next two weeks. After my recovery, I’ll just have two crank-up the volume for the 2 1/2 weeks to the end date of the contest.

I had a great Muay Thai workout tonight. Between hitting pads, calisthetics and fatigue drills it is a complete workout. I’m trying to get in as much work as I can because I have minor surgery scheduled for next week to correct a deviated septum. It will make training easier in the long run, but I’m a little bummed because I’m not allowed to train for 2 weeks post surgery. Maybe my doc is just too conservative. I don’t know.

Nothing too exciting here. I went to the gym and worked back and shoulders. My strength was good and numbers were up. One good piece of news is that I found that I can use the Hammer Strength shoulder press without aggravating the tendonitis in my left shoulder.
I’ve been low carbs for the past 3 weeks, but was told that I needed to do a carb refeed meal once per week. I did the refeed as my breakfast meal on Friday. I figured that this would give my body the day to process the carbs.

I trained legs today. Squats, Leg Press, Thigh Ext., Leg Curls and Calf Raises. I topped out at 315 on squats, which is a bit disheartening since i used to be able to hit 405 for a double. Regardless, I really pushed it and feel great.
In the past 3 weeks, I’ve lost 10 lbs, so I’m very satisfied wih my progress. In addition, all of my lifts have been going up. Slowly, but still going up. Slow and steady wins the race, as they say.
Stay Strong,
Eric
