Owww!
So on Tuesday night I was at a new gym, 24 Hour Fitness in Costa Mesa. I had just gotten a month free membership and I was ready to hit some new machines hard. I took my SuperPump, which by the way tastes like candy!, and I was starting out with dumbell shoulder presses. I saw that they had some half weights, so I picked up 32.5 dumbells to push myself. The first set went great! I felt pretty radical
Then the second set. I get through about 9 reps and I notice that the weights are really far apart at the top. So I think, "let’s squeeze at the top and really get a good pump up there". I squeeze and POP, my shoulder goes out. I’m really kinda flexible and a tad hyperextended and my shoulder can pop in and out of it’s socket. But it ain’t so good when I’m holding 65 pounds over my head. It hurt like hell, I dropped the weights and popped the shoulder back in, but I was pretty much done after that. I was mortified too! Here I am, this new girl lifting really heavy like I’m the shiz and look what happens to me! Luckily, I don’t think too many people saw. I tried to keep going with shoulders and i did complete an okay workout, but I seriously hurt myself. I was in so much pain the next day and my little kindergarteners were just making it worse! Plus, I had totally banged my knee getting into my car and I couldn’t even sit on our carpet with my kids. I was a wreck. I took some painkillers and was able to get through the rest of the day. I did manage the gym that night, but all I could do was legs and nothing involving my right arm (like to balance). Today felt a little better. I’m thinking it is just sore and needs some rest. SO no gym tonight. Maybe tomorrow. But this is just not good! I don’t ever really get injured. My body is pretty reliable. And boy am I going to be scared to do shoulder presses now! The thought of it gives me the heebie jeebies.
ANy advice for an injury like this??

WOW!! Pretty scary stuff! I would think going to an orthopedic might be a good idea! If you don’t, at least wait until the pain goes away and then lift really light to build your shoulder back up. I am nursing an anterior deltoid injury right now and it is driving me crazy because I can’t lift the weight I normally do. Good luck!

I think you’re right. I am going to go to the doctor. Getting hurt is not fun! I don’t want to lift light!!
Good luck with your injury recovery, too.
