GYM-Appropriate Behavior?
OK… I already did a rant on how I hate doing cardio next to a person that smells… here are some other things I can’t stand…
…when the dude next to me is yapping away on his cell phone as his treadmill is set to "mountain climb" and he is trying to hold on to his phone, the treadmill, towel and water bottle as he is trying to jog… within 12 seconds he drops something, then restarts the whole process… wouldn’t be that annoying… except for the fact that he’s yapping louder than my iPod…
…people having conversations that should be held in private. The other day I was peacefully walking on a treadmill next to two high school girls who were discussing, in graphic detail, a "rash" of some sort… and who gave it to whom… NOT KIDDING! Today two guys next to me were having a detailed discussion of their ED… people… it’s the GYM… your piece of cardio equipment is NOT enclosed in a sound-proof bubble… and just because someone has headphones on, doesn’t mean they can’t hear you! At the very least, speak quietly… I refuse to put the volume ALL the way up… I shouldn’t HAVE to…
…this also applies to individuals who posess the incredible ability to communicate in a language other than english. FYI… the person you’re talking shit about… may JUST know the language you speak… so walk ten feet away and say whatever you have to say to your buddy. You might just say the wrong thing about the wrong girl and end up getting a plate "accidentally" dropped on your foot or something… just an idea…

i hate when someone is using the piece of equipment you want as a chair.

i like your way of thinking, specially the last one, that one kinda applies where ever they are though. Keep it real!

This belongs in a forum.
I hate waiting for a piece of equipment, while the person using it is doing so with all the wrong form. You want to advise them they are doing it wrong, but then you don’t want to be a know-it-all, so you stand there and wait while they abuse their body and accomplish nothing.

I have to agree with TDetroit. It is so annoying when i might leave to get some water or something and come back to a person abusing thier body by adding tons of weight and not lifting right. I would like to tell them they’re wrong, but it seems out of line. So i just have to sit and watch while they do nothing and waste my time.

yea… there were these 2 guys talking about me as I was doing some exercise… i had headphones on… but my ipod was out of batteries… lol… so i heard EVERYTHING… didn’t say anything THAT bad thou… so i let it slide…
i think theres a bnch of threads on the forum dealing with gym annoyances… you just gotta find one…
…this is actually from my log on the forum… there’s a URL for it in my sig in my profile if you want to check it out… or there’s a link in a previous blog…

Last year I was working out at a new gym and I was doing legpress (which at the time was my favorite!). In the middle of the last set comes this guy asking me "how much weight I had on and if I came there often".
I never went there again!

You’re too funny! There’s this one guy at my gym, he is the definition of an Italian guy! Extremely cocky a.k.a he walks around with his chest all poofed out, super hairy, BIG gut, gold chain and all! And the dude wears SO MUCH cologne it makes my eyes water. When i get to the gym in the morning, i can actually SMELL HIM before i see him. I’m sorry dude, but dumping a bottle of cologne on doesn’t substitute a shower! You should not be allowed to wear that crap to the gym, I mean i need to breathe here!

I get bothered constantly and at the gym it’s no different.though I did always think it was like an unwritten law in the gym that if a person is wearing headphones it’s a dead giveaway..do not bother me.I am never disappointed in the fact that someone is tapping me on the shoulder or stepping way into my personal space to ask me question and it always happens in the middle of supersets or during a heavy set which instantly kills any high i’m getting from it.Other than that it looks like all the most annoying things are covered.

I agree with everything there, some people are simply oblivious to general etiquette. Thank god for the iPod and the ability to turn up loud volume….

I think the same thing about cell phones. I hate when people use the cell phone in one hand and doing dumbell curls in the other. I just try not to look and stay focused on what i’m doing. GREAT topic.
