Training & Diet Update

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

Yesterday I started something new. For the next two weeks I am going to do 2 hours of cardio at low intensity. Along with that I am going high reps. In addition to those changes I’ve added Udo’s Choice to my diet. 2 tablespoons a day - 1 table spoon before my first meal and one for an afternoon meal. I’ve only been taking it for 3 days but can tell a difference in my energy levels.

What is Udo’s Choice you ask?
Udo’s Choice was developed by Dr Udo Erasmus, one of the world’s leading experts on dietary fats. It is a carefully balanced blend of unrefined organic seed oils along with other nutrients vital for good health.

As Udos Choice is a food made only from plant sources, it is ideal for vegetarians and vegans who can’t eat fish.

The oil is mechanically pressed in a low heat environment, free of light and oxygen. This process has been developed by FMD to maximise stability. Unlike many oils, it is packaged in environmentally friendly non-reactive amber glass bottles, placed in a cardboard box, and dated for freshness.

  • Sample Meal Plan This week:
    • Meal 1 - 10 eggwhites - 1 yolk, 4 oz of steak, 1 table spoon of Udos
    • Meal 2 - Isopure Chocolate Shake
    • Meal 3 - 10oz of chicken, green beans and salsa - 1 rice cake with sugar free jelly
    • Meal 4 - 8oz of fish, green beans and salsa
    • Meal 5 - Isopure Shake, small piece of Elk Jerky, 1/2 cup of almonds
    • Meal 6 - 10oz steak, salsa - 1 table spoon of Udos
    • Meal 7 - BSN chocolate Shake

As you can see I’ve upped my protein, lowered by carbs and upped my fats. As I mentioned before my energy levels are much higher. I’ll monitor this for the next week and see how it goes. I started 16 weeks out at 226lbs and currently sitting at 205. Slowly but surely the fat is melting.

The Northern Nearing

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

I will start cracking the whip on myself to write more about my training and prep here. I will be competing at the NPC Northern Colorado on March 31st in Boulder, Colorado. Things are going well thus far and on track to coming in bigger then I have before. My first show I weighed 164lbs SHREDDED, last show was June 2005 and I was in good condition but not great and 178lbs. I’m not real concerned about my weight and where I end up weighing but I do want to match the conditioning I had for my first show. The pics below are from my first show.

frontb.jpg fronttri.jpg
I’ve been working out first thing in the morning. Doing my weight training before cardio. I began 16 weeks out at 226lbs and currently weighing 206lbs. I’ve been breaking my training up in the following splits:
CHEST/TRICEPS
BACK/BICEPS
LEGS/ABS
SHOULDERS/CALVES

1 hour of cardio.

I workout on an empty stomache and follow the workout up with 10 eggwhites and a 1/2 cup of oatmeal. I’ll touch on the diet portion more later as well as the workouts themselves.

The serious dieting has begun

Thursday, January 4th, 2007

It’s now 2007 as we all know, unless you haven’t quite recovered from partying, and many people start their New Year’s resolutions. Seven years ago almost to the day I was fat and out of shape. I was 235lbs, 23% bodyfat and miserable. I saw Kelly Adair on TV talking about how she had won Body-for-Life (BFL). It was then I said if this woman can do it, why aren’t I? I began BFL in 2000 and haven’t turned back to that fat slob since. I’ve competed in two shows and on my way to the third on March 31, 2007.

I compete to give myself something to strive for in terms of dieting and my physqiue. I’ve found that attaching an end result and committing to it, I follow through instead of just saying, Oh I wanna get in better shape. I started out nearly 4 weeks ago at 226lbs and as of yesterday I am at 211lbs. 15lbs in the first month not too shabby, but this is the time when I get strict and the pounds start shedding.

Off to work shoulders and calves today followed by 45 minutes of cardio. I’ll be posting more often on what my workouts and diet is looking like throughout this prep.

Happy New Year!

Friday the 15th… 6 days in

Friday, December 15th, 2006

I’ve been a little lax on posting here lately. I came down with the flu or a cold, some nasty sheet had me all stuffed up and feeling exteremly run down. I took a couple days off to rest and recover. Loaded up on Vitamin C and drank more water to help get over it.

Feeling a ton better. Yesterday I hit shoulders and calves hard and my poor little calves are whining from the training. I woke up this morning, had my Met-Rx Amped and did 70 minutes of cardio on the stationary bike.

I started off weighing 226 on December 9, 2006 and this morning I am at 218. I’ve been getting at least 6 meals a day in and my body is responding well.

Tomorrow night I have a friend’s holiday party and will use it as a cheat meal. I will eat a little before heading over as to not go completely crazy. Tonight I’ll most likely take in the new Will Smith movie and relax.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Treadmill cardio time

Saturday, December 9th, 2006

16 weeks from today I will be stepping on stage most likely 40-50lbs lighter then I am now. I am doing cardio (for an hour on the treadmill at an incline) as I write this entry, on the treadmill at an incline. My cardio is a slow, steady pace as to not burn muscle and get the fat off. Before doing cardio, on an empty stomache, I took 2 lip-o6 caps and drinking a Met-Rx AMPed drink. A half hour before cardio I also took my Spray Flex.

I will be writing more on what supplements I am taking along the way. Time to get back to various emails and finish this session up.

16 weeks out from showtime

Friday, December 8th, 2006

I am taking the next 4 weeks to clean up my diet and kick start the contest prep. I will be getting my fat ass back in shape and will compete on March 31, 2007. The Northern Colorado is the first show of the year in Colorado. This is usually a tough show with some awesome competitors. I will be posting photos of my progress over the next 16 weeks, give training logs, reports, videos and supplementation.

I know I will have the challenge of traveling to the IRONMAN PRO and the ARNOLD. Those two trips will present a challenge in the diet and training but planning in advance I should be able to work around it. The next month I won’t be as strict as I will be 12 weeks out as I want to enjoy some holiday time with my friends but it will only be a couple cheat days this month. Starting in January there will be no cheating and will be balls to the walls.

Stay tuned for progress pics and reports as I go Northern Bound.
