Nick is one cool dude who has one of the best outlooks online you’ll find. Nick won the Rocky Mountain Wheelchair Bodybuilding competition. Check out the video along with the recent story on him:
One man is not going to let his disability stop him, he is an athlete and is trying to bring awareness to his unique sport.
Nick Scott is a wheelchair bodybuilder and when he was in high school, a car accident broke his back and left him paralyzed.
The doctors said he would never walk again.
But through years of rehabilitation he can walk short distances and competes as a wheelchair bodybuilder.
In the last two years, Scott competed and guest posed in 10 shows and recently beat out all able and disabled male bodybuilders at the Rocky Mountain Championship as Best Male Poser.
Scott hopes to soon go professional and is trying to turn his website, www.wheelchair-bodybuilding.com into a non profit organization so he can help fund the dreams of other wheelchair bodybuilders.
“I’m going to convert wheelchair bodybuilding into non profit so I can raise money to help,” Scott said. “A lot of the guys just don’t have the funds to be able to fly, or get hotel rooms to compete, so if I can help them with that, the sport will grow.”
Scott says that life is not about having a glass half empty or half full.
It is just having a glass that is enough to be thankful about.

From the Rocky Mountain Newspaper:
Recalling ‘a wonderful man’
Procession marks year since slaying of bodybuilder
By John Aguilar , Daily Camera
A year ago, Sergio Libman and Gail Dubois were in the process of simplifying their lives.
The couple slowly were selling off possessions so they could move to Chile - Libman’s native country - and open a bed-and- breakfast together.
Among the items they were unloading on Dec. 18, 2006, was Libman’s 2003 Porsche, which the 43-year-old roofer and competitive bodybuilder had listed for sale on the Internet.
Two men who responded to the online ad showed up at Libman’s roofing business in Boulder’s Steelyards neighborhood to supposedly make a bid on the vehicle. Instead, they tried to steal the car, shooting and killing Libman in the process.
On Tuesday evening, Dubois accompanied a group of 25 close friends in a candlelight procession down Carbon Place to the spot where Libman was killed a year ago to pay tribute to “a wonderful man.”
"The last year has been painful," Dubois said. "I’m not the type to carry a lot of anger, but I’ve had to try to find a place in which to channel my anger.
"Sergio gave me so much when he was here. Thinking of that man just takes me back and gives me a better place in my heart to deal with this."
Dubois, 47, said she finds going to court to watch the judicial proceedings against the men accused of murdering her partner the hardest part of the healing process.
"I have to believe justice will be served," she said.
Ryan Barry, the alleged gunman in the crime, was charged with first-degree murder. His trial is scheduled for next month.
Alfred Gusman, who police say stabbed Libman in the back after he had been shot, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and is scheduled to be sentenced following Barry’s trial.
Kimberley Johnson, who was romantically involved with both men at different times, was sentenced in October to two years of work release and 10 years of probation for being an accessory to the murder. She drove the men to Boulder that night and then drove Barry to Kansas.
Rick Jones, owner of Customized Nutrition & Exercise, regularly sold Libman nutritional products out of his Steelyards shop.
"I just keep waiting for him to come in," said Jones, who hung a lighted neon "Sergio’s Gym" sign on the wall inside his store Tuesday.
Dubois, encircled by her friends on a bitterly cold night in Boulder, said the most important thing was to never forget Libman, the man with whom she hoped to grow old.
"Being here tonight is not a moment I want to remember, but it’s important to remember," she said.

Local FOX NEWS station covers the Wheelchair Bodybuilders and this weekend’s competition.
They don’t have use of their lower bodies but their upper body strength more than compensates for that adversity.
Groups of wheelchair athletes will flex their muscles at the Rocky Mountain Bodybuilding and Carol Semple Fitness and Figure Championships this weekend.
Certified fitness instructor Joana Canals appeared on Good Day Colorado with some of these amazing athletes Wednesday morning.
The Lone Tree Recreation Center hosted Joana, the wheelchair bodybuilders and the Good Day Colorado crew.
Josh Dillaberry is a wheelchair bodybuilder from Orange Park, Florida. He will be competing in the event this weekend. Here is Josh’s quick autobiography:
I am 35 years old; I have been working out since I was 12. I got started wheelchair bodybuilding in 1994. My friend Billy Fraser and Phil Racardi told me about wheelchair bodybuilding. They told me about the wheelchair nationals that are held in West Palm Beach, Fl. I competed from 1994-1998 then took time off and came back in 2004.
I was born with cerebral palsy. I am able to walk and stand for short periods of time. But when I go to the grocery store or somewhere I will be on my feet for long periods I use my wheelchair. When I was born in 1972 they told my parents I was going to be a vegetable and not going to be able to do anything.
I was born with water on the brain, and I have had about 25 different surgeries in my life. Hopefully, there will be no more. I really enjoy working out and competing in wheelchair bodybuilding it is in my blood.
I got married in 1998 and we have one daughter that is now 6 going on 7. I hope to continue bodybuilding as long as I can, until I just do not want to do it anymore. I started using a wheelchair around 2000 when it started to become harder to stand for long periods of time and it was had to walk long distances.
Mason Stanfield is a wheelchair bodybuilder and fitness trainer from Evans, Colorado. He appeared with Joana Canals, but is not competing this weekend.

From http://denver.yourhub.com
My husband, Ron Testa, will be competing in the biggest bodybuilding contest in Colorado on Saturday, December 1 st, 5 weeks shy of his 61st birthday.
In March of 1973, he was involved in a near fatal automobile/motorcycle accident. He had 3 separate surgeries the first 5 days he spent in the hospital. For the next 13 months doctors tried unsuccessfully to save his leg, which had to be amputated after all. During his recovery, he worked out, began bench pressing and stayed pretty physically fit.
However, by 2005, Ron was totally out of shape - weighing almost 250 pounds. This was due to a work-related accident in October of 2000 which left him with a compressed disk in his low back and a torn up right knee which required surgery. At this point he decided to get back into training and found ways to work out around his injuries. In June of 2007, he competed in the NPC Mid-USA and placed 2 nd in the Over 60 at a mean, lean 176.

Not only does Ron look great, he’s an example of how working towards a goal, at any time in your life and with any physical limitations, can define and give you meaning. See him compete this weekend at the NPC Cyto Charge Rocky Mountain Bodybuilding Championships at East High School, 7 p.m. Go to www.jefftaylor.com for tickets and all the information. Go Ron!

Stephen Edward Collins, 37, died unexpectedly at his home in Centennial on Sunday. Beloved son, brother and friend. He was born in Boulder, attended Boulder High and graduated from Fairview High. His competitive spirit started young; as a boy, he demonstrated tremendous drive, determination and skill that led to his winning many state trophies for dirt bike racing. In recent years, he worked as a mortgage broker, but more often than not, he could be found in the gym. Steve’s passion for bodybuilding led to his winning first place of both the Men’s Novice and Open classes of the 2006 NPC Cytocharge Colorado State Bodybuilding Championships.
He is survived by his father, Jack, mother Ann, sister Suzanne, many loving friends and his two cherished dogs Niko and Kayla. Services will be held on Thurs 11/1 at 2:00 pm with viewing from 12:00 - 2:00 pm prior to the service at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 S. Colorado Blvd. in Littleton.
In keeping with Steve’s love of dogs, contributions may be made in his name to the Denver Dumb Friends League, 2080 S. Quebec, Denver, CO 80231
R.I.P big Steve… you will definetly be missed.

I received news yesterday from one of the NPC Colorado judges that the 2006 Colorado State Champion, Steve Collins passed away. NPC Colorado District Chairman, Jeff Taylor confirmed the news with me this morning and said Steve was found dead in his bed with his ball cap and gym clothes on.
I spoke with Steve a couple of times and he was always very friendly. The last time I spoke with him was before the Colorado Pro/Am when he was training with Paul Pfeifer.
I will keep you posted on any updates related to this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Steve’s family and loved ones.

Congrats to Jess Steffens for her win this weekend at the NPC North Americans. Jessica has moved her way up in the placings this year and has come a long way in a short amount of time. I shared a towncar with her and her husband Travis in New York. They are both great people and equally hillarious. Jessica is part of Carla Sanchez’s Performance Ready Team.
Did you know Jessica used to race motorcycles?
