Viral Marketing - PROMOTE BABY

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Rarely do I click on banner ads but once in awhile ads will catch my attention and I’ll click through. Today I ran across a cool designed ad with Don King on it. Most banner ads suck and try to cram too much into a tiny space. This is the ad that caught my attention:

Once on the site it has the same look and feel as the banner ad. Many times if I do click on the banner I get to the site and leave. This one actually kept my short attention span. I clicked around and ran across a spot where you can create your own posters and download them and post them, like I am doing here. You’re creating your own customized content but in the process you’re promoting the product. What it is? You may not be able to tell but it is designed in such a way it catches your attention to find out. I created one for my mobile marketing company MUSCLE PHONE. It looks pretty cool.

Ray-Ban Commercial featuring buff babe

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Anyone know who this woman is? Clearly she is a competitor with a great physique. The commercial get more amusing every time I watch it.

Ad Spotting: The Anti-Gym

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

This gym has been causing quite a stir in Denver over the last year. They call it "The Anti-Gym". They attempt to motivate people by yelling at them and his motto is "No Chubbies". I find the owner annoying (he’s the guy yelling in the commercial) but if he helps people loose weight it can’t be all bad, right? Once people find that they can be motivated in ways other than someone screaming at them I think they will move on.

Here is one of his ads running in the Denver area. What do you think?

Ad Spotting

Friday, January 4th, 2008

This year I will be featuring some of the industry’s ads and providing my thoughts. Most of the advertising in the bodybuilding/fitness industry is terrible. Flip through any bodybuilding magazine and you’ll see no less than 12 ads with some guy flexing and a product shot. Swap out the product or company logo and it’s virtually the same ad overdone. Why is it so difficult for our industry to do creative work? I’m not saying it’s all bad - I’ll highlight the good with the bad. My first example of poor messaging and advertising is shown below.

Whoever created this ad should be fired or demoted to janitorial duties.

The copy says “convenient virtually unbreakable packaging”. Hmmmmmm. Why would you show your packaging being broken in the ad?
