Ad Spotting
Friday, January 4th, 2008This year I will be featuring some of the industry’s ads and providing my thoughts. Most of the advertising in the bodybuilding/fitness industry is terrible. Flip through any bodybuilding magazine and you’ll see no less than 12 ads with some guy flexing and a product shot. Swap out the product or company logo and it’s virtually the same ad overdone. Why is it so difficult for our industry to do creative work? I’m not saying it’s all bad - I’ll highlight the good with the bad. My first example of poor messaging and advertising is shown below.
Whoever created this ad should be fired or demoted to janitorial duties.

The copy says “convenient virtually unbreakable packaging”. Hmmmmmm. Why would you show your packaging being broken in the ad?
