My work schedule is unique and changes daily. One day I’ll be writing preview articles for bodybuilding.com, the next creating a logo for a client. Every day is different in the land of LIFT. Yesterday I spent the afternoon with IFBB Pro Bodybuilder, Phil Heath as he prepares for the IRONMAN next month. He’ll then make the trip to Columbus for the Arnold Classic. Phil is focused and on track do doing very well in both contests. He trains hard and with great intensity.
Since my day changes every day I need to be prepared. I knew I wouldn’t be home for a few hours so I packed a protein shake. Luckily I did because we ended up shooting for 2 hours and then I made the trek home.
Let me tell you, when you see a guy like Phil train it is motivating and makes you step up your game. Will I ever look like Phil? of course not. That’s not the point. You don’t need to look like a pro bodybuilder or even train like one but you can learn something from them. Phil’s reminded me that when you set your mind to something nothing will stand in your way.
Check out the preview photos and story from our shoot at FLEXONLINE.com. A training video will be posted tomorrow on their site.
Phil just under 5 weeks out from the IRONMAN PRO.

From the Denver Post:
On the fourth floor of the former Tattered Cover building, a skeletal framework of interior walls and meandering wires hint at what, by late February, will be the upper level of Pura Vida — an ambitious, four-story fitness club serving tony Cherry Creek North.
Managing partner J. Madden gazes out of the floor-to-ceiling windows and sees headlights coursing along East First Avenue, Pikes Peak in the distance — and room for yet another player in a city where industry research says nearly one-fourth of the population already belongs to a health club.
“In our business, some places try to be all things to all people,” Madden says. “You do that, and eventually you miss something. We want to be all things to our audience that knows specifically what we’re providing.”
Posh gyms. High-tech gyms. Homey gyms. Family-friendly gyms. This new year’s rush to work out will take place in a Front Range fitness marketplace that has been bumped up with a slew of new offerings to meet growing demand.
The number of fitness clubs has more than doubled during the past decade, and competition is fierce in Denver, one of the nation’s top five cities for health-club membership.

I was stoked to see the new American Gladiator TV show debut last night. The original show was a tremendous success and we were promised the new show would not be like our "Grandma’s American Gladiators" by the new host Hulk Hogan. Well Hulk was right it’s not and that’s a disappointment - it should be more like granny’s gladiators.
The two hour premiere was horrific at best in my opinion. Why would the creators not spend the first hour explaining why the show came back, what’s new, what’s improved and take a chapter out of the American Idol book? Show the tryouts, show the people who didn’t make it and why. Take the first hour to develop the characters of the new Gladiators - who they are, why they were chosen and what makes them worthy of gladiator status. Did they do anything in regards to character development? No. What a waste.
In the first event a female competitor is taken out by gladiator Tanji Johnson. A bit of foreshadowing of what was to come? Busted and broken would best describe how the show flowed. NPC competitor, Venus Ramos comes in as the replacement and goes onto victory. Along the way viewers are forced to listen to a boring announcer, a howling "wolf", cheesy smack talking and pathetic editing.
Jamie Reed’s character "Fury" was the only one who showed us much from a gladiator status. At one point the announcer says, "Fury’s signature move" as she clamps her legs around a competitor on the rings. How can it be her signature move when we’ve never seen it before or never been told about it?
I wanted to like the show but it was more painful to watch then the beating some of the competitors endured. My hope is for the women to make the most of this mainstream opportunity and do what they can with the exposure now. The door is closing fast on this show and I don’t see it lasting on the air for a second season.

This gym has been causing quite a stir in Denver over the last year. They call it "The Anti-Gym". They attempt to motivate people by yelling at them and his motto is "No Chubbies". I find the owner annoying (he’s the guy yelling in the commercial) but if he helps people loose weight it can’t be all bad, right? Once people find that they can be motivated in ways other than someone screaming at them I think they will move on.
Here is one of his ads running in the Denver area. What do you think?
