Rest in peace Steve

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Stephen Edward Collins, 37, died unexpectedly at his home in Centennial on Sunday. Beloved son, brother and friend. He was born in Boulder, attended Boulder High and graduated from Fairview High. His competitive spirit started young; as a boy, he demonstrated tremendous drive, determination and skill that led to his winning many state trophies for dirt bike racing. In recent years, he worked as a mortgage broker, but more often than not, he could be found in the gym. Steve’s passion for bodybuilding led to his winning first place of both the Men’s Novice and Open classes of the 2006 NPC Cytocharge Colorado State Bodybuilding Championships.

He is survived by his father, Jack, mother Ann, sister Suzanne, many loving friends and his two cherished dogs Niko and Kayla. Services will be held on Thurs 11/1 at 2:00 pm with viewing from 12:00 - 2:00 pm prior to the service at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 S. Colorado Blvd. in Littleton.

In keeping with Steve’s love of dogs, contributions may be made in his name to the Denver Dumb Friends League, 2080 S. Quebec, Denver, CO 80231

R.I.P big Steve… you will definetly be missed.

Sad News to report from Colorado: 2006 Colorado State Champion Passes Away

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

I received news yesterday from one of the NPC Colorado judges that the 2006 Colorado State Champion, Steve Collins passed away. NPC Colorado District Chairman, Jeff Taylor confirmed the news with me this morning and said Steve was found dead in his bed with his ball cap and gym clothes on.

I spoke with Steve a couple of times and he was always very friendly. The last time I spoke with him was before the Colorado Pro/Am when he was training with Paul Pfeifer.

I will keep you posted on any updates related to this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Steve’s family and loved ones.

NPC Nationals Update: Lee Haney to attend

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

I just received word from the NPC Nationals promoter that the very first Nationals’ winner, Lee Haney will be in attendance for the 25th Anniversary. This alone will be worth the trip to see one of bodybuilding’s best. I’ll be attending Nationals in Dallas, TX in a couple weeks.

How did Faildo fair?

Monday, October 29th, 2007

I haven’t received official word from Chris since before the finals but it appears that Chris Faildo placed 9th in the World Championships. Chris was the Team Universe overall winner and represented the USA in Korea this past weekend. I’ll provide more updates from Chris after he returns home to Hawaii.

Congrats Chris!

The Women of West Palm Beach

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

Great weather, great show and incredible women in West Palm Beach. Tough gig, I know.

Here’s a few of the pics off the stage. More with Heather Green, Kristal Richardson and Sandra Wickham to follow.

Enjoy a couple of Gina and Julie until then.

The Mr. Olympia… from the lens of Isaac Hinds

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

I had the honor and priviledge to shoot the Mr. Olympia contest once again. It’s a ton of work but one that is very rewarding, knowing that you’re capturing a part of bodybuilding history. Recently, I started working with Tony Blinn and the new IFBB website. Tony is the chairman of IFBB Technical Committee and General Secretary of the IFBB Professional League. He is a great guy, who works directly with Mr. Ben Weider on the website.

Today, much to my surprise and delight, Tony posted some of my photos as a feature section on the website. Check out the feature and the new website. They have individual judges’ scores and more on the site.
