Well, I have learned A LOT from getting ready and competing in the Southern CLassic June 2nd. I went in about 6lbs heavier than i did for the Gopher State Classic back in April… and it wan’t all muscle (had a hard time getting the water off). In all honestly my heart wasn’t in this show prep 100%. I did everything about the same diet and workout wise. Perhaps trained with a bit less intensity, and man did life throw me some distractions… But I went through the motions nonetheless.
So at weigh-in the night before I knew i wasn’t as ripped as my previous show… but didn’t give it too much thought. I just kinda was ready for the whole thing to be over and go eat my bision bacon cheeseburger from ruby tuesday.
This morning I got to see the competition for the first time, and i think i ate a piece of humble pie real quickly…The other girl in my weight class looked amazing. Amazing legs, back, abs, the total package… I could tell that she was super focused and really worked her tail off in getting ready. I felt like a super slacker for not giving it more effort.
Don’t know how the judging is gonna go… but so far if she takes it over me I won’t feel bad one ounce. It was a big wake up call for me… I LOVE this sport and plan on doing it as long as my body will allow… And what I am taking away from this show is that I want to walk off stage knowing I gave it my all. Nothing half hearted, just all out dedication. It shows big time.
But I have no regrets. If you are first every time then what is the point of even starting out on the path… every show is a lesson in some area of life. I truly learned that you get out what you put in… and next show I am gonna put in 110%. I am not gonna let the outcome ruin my hopes of going pro, just gives me a shove harder in the right direction.
So all you can do is pick yourself up, dust off, and hit it all the harder tomarrow. It’s more about the journey getting there. Can’t just show up. Gotta take the long road and know that although it’s a challenge and easy to get discouraged, you can’t look at it like that… gotta take from every experience what you can.
KEEP YOUR FOCUS. REMEMBER HOW MUCH YOU LOVE IT. AND DON’T LET ANYONE TELL YOU IT’S SOMETHING YOU CAN’T DO!!!!
