"I'd rather be at the Gym! **After a long hiatus away from the gym, I am back. Looking to get back into the hardcore grove. Bustin' for 3 weeks straight to get this lazy a** back in shape. Then it's time to add some mass!**"

New Family Plan

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Just wanted to pass along a fun, family friendly workout and diet plan we came up with this morning over breakfast.  Like most of you, I have a hard time passing up all of the holiday food. And at the same time, I find an easy reason to not go to the gym. Well, this morning, we decided to make our own little inter-family contest. We are all putting in an entry fee (amount not yet decided, probably 50 bucks). The contest will run for 10 weeks. At the end of the 10 weeks, the winner will be the one with the best achievement in line with their goal(s). Second place will get their money back.

The point of the contest is not to supply a winner with cash. More to get all in the family thinking about good health and fitness during the hardest time of the year. And the diet/nutrition part of it is the kicker. You dont end up with the hangover from the holiday food.

I think it is a great idea and wanted to pass it along to yall. Use the idea to spur some family fitness during the holidays. No time like the present to get in better shape. Plus, you might even win at the end of the 10 weeks.

 Good luck!

In Response

Monday, October 5th, 2009

In response to my last blog "HELP-I need motivation", I just wanted to thank a few of you.  I seem to have found my sweet spot regarding getting my training back on track. After posting, I found that pm work outs were just getting in my way. So, I moved my workouts to 5:30 am. Sounds dumb, but that really starts my day off good and I don’t have to deal with all the people in my way. First week, I was one of two guys in the free weights area. Now the cardio area is a different story. However, I thought I was going to hate the am workouts. Turns out, I like them. Who would have ever thought. Now back to the grind.

Thanks for the help guys!

Pt. 3

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Over the past few trips to the gym, I have been witness to some rather annoying and some laughable occurrences. Tonight, was one that was just annoying. I am betting everyone on this site has been in the same position I was in. Tonight was legs only. I had got through about half of what I had planned. Then, I ran into the person I will call:

1. Mr./Ms./Mrs. "I’m not real sure what I am doing, but I know I am going to get in your way"–usually of larger persuasion and unfamiliar with the gym. Typically, they have all the right reasons to be on the machine, but lack the mental capacity to understand that there are other people in the gym. They are more concerned with themselves and what they aren’t doing, than what the other members around them are wanting to achieve. It’s not fun running into one of these people when you are trying to whip your legs into better form.

Gym Pet Peeves–Pt. 2

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

Ok, I have one addition to the list for today. I went earlier for a nice workout/cardio session.  In the middle of my run, this is what I saw:

1. Ms./Mrs. "Juicy Couture"–this is the girl that comes into the gym dressed head to toe in fashionable gym clothes. Sunglasses still on in the cardio section. Rings on. Earrings on. High dollar cell phone. High dollar Ipod touch. All the accessories. Including shoes that look like they have never seen the outdoors before. Usually, attractive, or trying to be, she keeps constantly looking around to see if anyone, by chance, is looking at her. Typically, she spends five minutes on the elliptical machine before heading into the yoga class. Of course, with her Juicy Couture yoga mat. Like for sure!!

Gym Pet Peeves

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

So, I was at the gym earlier. The past two months have been tough due to my cardio regime getting turned up a few knotches. But, I have found some pet peeves that just wear me out.

First, is the "I gotta have my Ipod" person–you know that guy/girl that gets nothing done because they are so focused on their ipod that they forget about the workout itself. Usually, they interrupt you to do like two sets. Just plain irritating.

Second, is the "I need this fan" person–usually in the cardio section is where I find this person. And not to be mean, but they are usually not in shape, unless round is a shape. But, they always ask if u are using it. I always tell them to take it if its not on. Wears me out.

Third, is the "Why didn’t you wipe down your machine" person–usually the guy that isn’t working our hard. I find that these guys typically don’t understand the premise of a gym. They are too worried about cleaning up after themselves that they end up lifting the rag instead of some iron.

Fourth, is the "Its a 50 outside, but I’ll still wear my skin tight tank and shorts" person–sorry but I got to workout for myself. So, there is no need to strike a pose or flail around in a wife beater to try to catch the attention of the girls. I love this guy, for comedic relief only.

Finally, is the "Cell phone is attached" person–my personal favorite here. This is the guy/girl that just can’t put the phone down. Usually, working out or on the cardio and talking up a storm. And, when they get a call, they have to yell "I’m at the gym" so everyone knows they are on the phone. I love this person. If this is you, I am the guy at the back that is laughing at you a**!!

I hope all of your workouts are going smoothly and your goals are closer than ever!!

Gym in New Orleans

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Anybody know of a good gym in the New Orleans area—preferably down by the Superdome area?  I am heading that way in the morning and need a good place to workout for three days. Any help would be appreciated.

Traveling & Working Out

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Anybody else find it hard to travel for business and workout?? I have the hardest dang time one, trying to find an adequate gym, and two, finding time out of my schedule to get it all done. I am always let down by the minuscule training equipment hotels have. Makes me laugh everytime they show me the gym with their "state of the art" facilities. They have no clue what I am looking for.

However, this next week I am going to New Orleans. And you can bet your a** I am staying at a Hilton. They have a new GYM in there hotel down in the French Quarter. The gym takes up most all of the second floor. You can’t beat that. Plus they offer a free 30 min massage if you show up in the gym. I think I can make time to go from the fourth floor to the second. HAHA.

Anyone else have a solution to help you workout while on the road??

Anyone have any good tips on how to cut or decrease the amount of carbs per day. Just tallied up for this week and I am averaging 160-170 per day. What is the right amount?
