cheat day :-/

February 3, 2009

It all started at work on Saturday…I stayed up late Friday night and got to work late Saturday morning. Then, a customer who works at a bakery brought in doughnuts. Due to the lack of sleep and messed up leptin levels, I ate three.

Then Sunday, the guy I’m seeing (still not sure whether or not to call him my "boyfriend"…labels are just weird to me…) decided to have a chill night & watch the superbowl. It ended up being really nice: he brought over delicious sushi, Coldstone cake batter ice cream and red wine. I also made my famous spinach dip which isn’t too bad (with all the cream cheese and cheese, its definitely low carb!) and toasted some low carb wraps for it because I’m lame and only have low carb tortillas. I felt a little bad indulging like that but he’s definitely worth the extra calories.

The thing about the guy I’m seeing is that he’s a big guy(6′2′’ 240lb), works out as much as I do and needs all of the carbs and calories he can get. The only time he watches what he eats is when the food is going into his mouth… Yesterday I worked out for an hour and then did almost 90 minutes of cardio (stepmill, spinning bike, treadmill) so as I was cooking healthy french toast for us at 1am, he was telling me that I shouldn’t feel bad about eating that late because I worked out so hard that day… Unfortunately, I’ve done the whole "eat-whatever-I-want-because-workout-ha
rd" thing for too long and never saw results.  I love that he loves me the way that I am..but I want to be the best!

Back to eating well!!!

What would Fedor do?

January 27, 2009

"What would Fedor do?" is my new inspirational mantra…Fedor Emelianenko is the "Baddest Man On the Planet" and the special on Fox Sports Nets about him has me totally amped. He is the deadliest MMA fighter on the planet, yet he is a modest and spiritual guy who trains constantly to improve his game. He doesn’t have to intimidate people, he doesn’t "bang his chest" when he walks out to the ring like many of the other fighters and he doesn’t pay attention to what people say about him (especially when its about how amazing he is). He says that he goes to the ring to fight with a clear mind, and he focuses on his opponent.

As I eat, train, go to school, work and interact with people, I keep Fedor in the back of my mind–asking myself what he would do in many of my situations. I know he’s getting up at 5am to run in the siberian winter so I sure as hell can do an hour of cardio everyday. When I get stressed out and upset and a little nutso, I tell myself to find peace from within– that I can only change myself and make myself the best that I can be.

NEW GYM + NEW GOAL

January 27, 2009

Sick of the school gym (which is incredibly nice, but now incredibly crowded with the New Years Resolution crowd and the Spring Break cardio bunnies), I decided to join a new gym. In Gainesville, there isn’t much to choose from, but I’m really happy that I finally decided on Powerhouse. I had a great leg workout yesterday followed by and hour of cycling and 30 minutes on the step mill. The crowd at the gym is good–people who actually take working out seriously! And jacked guys are always a plus.

I’m setting a new goal for myself: I want to lose about 10 lbs in 4 weeks. I’ve been eating well and doing cardio and I’ve managed to drop about 7lbs of holiday weight gain. I went home last weekend and everyone kept asking me how much weight I’ve lost…eventhough it wasn’t very much, it was probably all fat because I fuel my muscles and lift hard. My "skinny pants" also fit me way better than they did a month ago when they were too tight to wear.

I’m going to get my bodyfat tested at the gym sometime next week but I have one of those hand-held bodyfat testers and it says I’m around 21%.

With the right diet and planning, I should be around 135lbs on February 24. My 22nd birthday is March 16 and by then I hope to have met my goal of 130 lbs and 12% bodyfat.

I’ve found that a keto/low-carb diet is best for me so I’ve been eating only protein & fat during the week and on either Saturday or Sunday I’ll eat carbs to refuel my glycogen and keep my body guessing.

I had some struggles with my hormones this past year–for awhile I was taking androgens(which surprisingly never affected my mood), then I started taking a birth control that made me moody and depressed, now I’m on a different one thats supposed to treat PMDD. Needless to say, I was doing some serious emotional eating! I’m very paranoid that the estrogen is going to increase my appetite and make me fat but I realize that accidentally getting pregnant WILL increase my appetite and make me fat so I better not be an idiot. Why can’t all guys take steroids, damnit!? JK

My diet is as follows:

Keto/Low-carb days:
*120g protein /<30g carbs/70g fats

(I’m so busy during the week with school & work that I can usually only eat 4-5 meals, one of which is a Pure Protein bar. Yum.)
High-carb refeed days:

*120g protein/150g carbs/20g fats (fish oil/flax)

(This will most likely be cereal or oatmeal with protein powder…god I miss carbs.)

*I’ll adjust it if I’m not losing weight etc.*

i’m doing the best i ever did — godsmack

great song for leg day!!

i had a great leg workout today. really intense. i get such a good pump, i love it.
i’ve been decreasing my protein (i was eating 200g/day when i was "bulking" and trying to put on some muscle) now i’m keeping it to about 150g, minimal fibrous carbs and moderate fats. i think my calories are good at this level, i dont feel deprived or starving. i have to send my brother pictures on sunday so he can gauge my progress while i’m up here at school. gotta love the older brothers.
i’ve been taking GABA at night and its great. it supposedly increased your levels of HGH, and i’ll do anything to get my GH up "naturally". it helps me get to sleep early and i feel really good in the morning, i can actually get up at 7am.
i’m absolutely obsessed with my "protein ice cream"–vanilla protein powder blended with jello sugar free pudding mix, ice added, and frozen. delicious. i know the jello mix is kind of fake and not "clean" but with 18g of protein per serving (i figure these things out), its awesome. and much better than eating dlites or low carb ice cream (empty calories).

time for bed so i can go do cardio in the morning!

today is the first day of the rest of your life…

October 9, 2007

i love that quote–very inspirational and get-off-your-ass-ish. so i’d been slacking on my morning cardio because my apartment’s gym is kind of crappy and i’ll go for like 20 mins and be like "screw this i’m hungry." so yesterday i bought a decal so i can park on campus and go to the school gym early in the morning and not have to get annoyed by the fact that otherwise i’d have to take the bus which costs like 30 minutes of my time that could be spent climbing up the stepmill. today is day two that i’ve done an hour of cardio before breakfast and i’m super-motivated. i mean, don’t get me wrong, when i can’t do morning cardio, i make up for it in the evening, after my workouts (yes, even leg workouts) but now i can do both…

i had an awesome shoulder workout last night. i’m really digging the veins that pop out and my shoulders look really round and are starting to show nicely. i’m so proud of my lateral raises with 15 lb dumbbells–especially when the little twerpy frat boys are doing the same weight as me (sans the good form that i have).

i’m kind of doing a targeted keto diet right now–no carbs except the minimal amt in veggies and a few grams before/after my hard workouts. i can tell that my muscles get really fatigued, even during cardio but its okay…thats what lots of water and stimulants are for–to keep me going through the pain!!

i definitely think i’ve put on some muscle in the past few weeks and its a little discouraging because the number on the scale has gone up. but i’m going to tighten up my diet, increase my cardio and make sure i’m doing everything to make sure i lose fat as well as gain muscle. i’m probably going to get my bodyfat tested one day this week just to know where i stand.
