Training Partner

March 25, 2008

Training Partner

The above photos show my best friend, Craig, who has been my training partner for the past ten years. It is my opinion that having a training partner is the best way to stay inspired, motivated and on track. As a role model (see previous blog post), Craig has been my driving force to “hang in there” and become the very best person I can be. These photos were taken at the age of 56 (yes, 56!) and are living proof that there really is life after 30, 40 and even 50. IMHO, he is the personification of physical perfection and is definately the most dedicated bodybuilder I have ever met. The 2nd photo is particularly impressive in that the pose is totally relaxed but still shows his awesome muscular definition & vascular cuts in perfect proportion - and without flexing. Even at age 56, he rertains an enviable BF ratio of around 8%-9%.

I share these photos in hope that Craig will inspire other “seniors” as much as he has me and my continuous quest for fitness - regardless of age. Like good wine, we can just get better. Don’t quit!

I would appreciate your thoughts and comments. Thanks!

The Importance of a Role Model.

The Importantace of a Role Model
Keeping and staying inspired and motivated is the key to a successful fitness program - particularly as we get older. There are many ways of doing this, but one excellent way is through a role model. We all have an image of the ideal physique and how we would like to look. Find a photograph of this image whether it be a friend, gym member, magazine photo - or even a former photo of yourself when in better shape. Keeping this image in front of you gives you a goal to strive for - and even if you never fully obtain those goals, by striving you are bound to improve.

Personally, I have never subscribed to the “bigger is better” philosophy that seems to be so popular today. I much prefer a slim, trim, defined physique with a low BF ratio such as my role model in the photo above. At age 53 (yes, 53), he is my idea of physical perfection. I keep this photo on my gym clipboard as constant inspiration and motivation as I work out. I also use it as my PC wallpaper.

I can attest to the fact that this little gimick has helped me through some down days and always works like a charm. Try it!

I will share other motivational tricks in a later entry but, in the meantime, hope others will comment on the above and, perhaps, add their own thoughts.

Any other “seniors” out there???

August 9, 2006

I am an older guy (age 71) who has always been interested in fitness & bodybuilding as a way of life. Since most of my friends (no, make that "all") my age could care less about fitness, I am hoping that there are other "Old Farts" out there for support and motivation. I also invite other seniors to visit my senior fitness website at: http://netconex.com/kenchi. Age is just a number so let’s support each other - we are not alone!
