Goal as a state of being - not just and end result.

My quest to make physical changes has more truly been a change to my mentality. I always wanted a beautiful physique as an end result but as I am progressing to really achieve it what I have learned is that the physique is not really the goal - it is truly the by product in a change of lifestyle and thinking. It is the result of taking charge of everyday actions and controlling your decisions - thinking about minor things taht most are just doing on autopilot.

These changes happen inside you first rather than outside. The outside lags but still the outisde changes become your reward and your badge of honor for taking control of your decisions, planning your time, meals, activities etc. Possibly this could be why there are many attempts by many people to make a change to their body but what they do is some uncalculated activity be it eating differently or adding physical activity then see little or no immediate result and either don’t continue their efforts or don’t actually focus in on the math they should be doing:

 Cals eaten vs. Cals burned

Increased resistance or stimulation to grow a muscle

They quickly then give up and never realize their goal.

I come to these thoughts as I continue to increase my weight training and intensity, Dial in on my nutrition and keep a calorie deficit while not seeing a major change physical but absolutely have a complete change to thinking and lifestyle. Maybe this is why BS, BB.com attracts so many people who then become successful with their physical goals because it keeps this on the brain - you start to live it.

So while I slowly change my outside appearance I have more quickly altered my mental state of being, my thought process and my everyday life and those changes, I believe may be the more important ones.

I agree and in my mind there’s no such thing as a short term fitness goal. If you don’t keep up the pursuit of a goal even far beyond the point of achieving it it will begin to fade away from you. Poeple think a state of fitness is a checkpoint that automaticaly maintains itself.

Completely and utterly true. The transformation happens inside before it happens anywhere else; well put :)

Thanks Josh - That is the point - The goal is not one single moment it is the change of your state of being. Maintaining that state of being will help you maintain whatever physical appearance you want (within reason and as genetics allow).
