He came he saw and he kicked its ass!
who was the he: my son, what did he see: his fear of the diving board, what did he do: he finally jumped off and loved it, and jumped 6 more times.
I was so proud of him. Speaking as someone who freaked out at age 7 on the high dive and since then I haven’t been able to dive into a pool, I was very proud of him. Now of course I will have to do the low dive before the end of summer, so I plan on kicking my fear too.
One thing, when my fear started my parents didn’t force it, they just let it be to the point I was terrified of even diving in water. With me I have pressed the issue, I’ve went over and over it with him, Hell I bribed him with Ghostbusters for Wii if he did it. And he did it, at first he was like "oh well maybe I’ll get Ghostbusters for Christmas" at which point i said "oh no, Santa knows we had a deal and he will not violate it"
Yes I was evil with that comment but I was damned if he’d be an adult and still be afraid of the diving board like me. Wish my Dad had forced the issue, after my car wreck as a teen he made me get in the car and drive it, too bad he didn’t bribe, threaten or cajole me with diving into water.
I can swim fine, I have no issue of drowning, its just something about looking down into water freaks me out.
Today my kiddo jumped 15x from the diving board, does a Momma proud. I"m such a MOmma bear, I told him that the next time the kid in his swim class tried drowning him with splashing to give it back to him and he did and the kid treats him better. I told him that next time he saw the swim bullies(they look like the bullies from A Christmas Story, one’s ears are huge, poor kid) to drown them back too.
He went after one, and that kids Grandma was yelling "stop" and got between them and gave me a nasty ass look. Which I gave her my do you really want to say anything to me because I will let you have it look.
He did awesome at swim lessons and batting cage practice today too, I’m so proud.
Also proud of me, I worked my chest today, damn bursitis in my right shoulder, pec area is bugging me big time but I worked thru it. GRRRRRRRRRR

After swim lessons I did: 20min weighted ss cardio on my treadmill
Put 30# in my backpack, need to adjust the straps darn weight was hitting me in my tailbone, I was a sweaty, smelly mess.
We saw Ice Age 3 yesterday, tried talking the kiddo into seeing The Proposal with me. I love Sandra Bullock, and Ryan Reynolds is so niiiiiiiiiiicccccccccccccccceeeeeeeeeeee to look at, no go though.
Have to take my heart rate monitor to a jewler and see if they can replace the battery in it, I miss seeing my hr while I work out and the calories I’m burning.
Saturday we are going to see Jet cars, should be fun.

Hey I’d be careful bringing the kiddo w/ you to see The Proposal. I read there’s nudity & plenty of adult themes (sex) in the flick.
Nice job working thru the bursitis. Hope you get some relief Kermane. Not fun.

well darn, no The Proposal then, don’t need to be answering all kinds of questions right now, give me a couple of years.

Awesome. I’ve got one that isn’t afraid of anything. Nothing at all. That kind of scares me. The other is afraid of everything. Litterally. I think he spent too much time with grandma when he was little.
It’s great that your little guy has found a way to put a choke hold on fear early. That will serve him well in the future.
Al, this ‘The Proposal’ movie, is that still playing? Anything with adult themes, nudity and sex is worth a look in my world. (Sort of kidding)

I’m glad he nipped it in the bud early. Yes the Proposal is still playing, lol.

Way cool, great to see the little one conquering fears so early. Well done mom

I’ve read this in a number of places - but there’s a philosophy that if you have a fear of something, then you HAVE to do it. It’s a way of working through and eliminating them.
By the way, big kudos on backing him like that about the splashing. Too many people are trying to treat kids too weakly. Good to hear he’ll learn to stand up for himself!

LOL Kermane sometimes I have talked Trent into seeing a chick flick with me & if he wants to go to the movies bad enough, he’ll go but I saw The Proposal by myself. It was good.
