The Terminator has fallen
In fact she fell several times yesterday trying to roller skate. LOL. Why was I trying to roller skate when the other 2x in my life I tried I fell like crazy?? Because my son has never tried it and I didn’t want to be one of those parents who sat on the sidelines telling him "get up, it can’t hurt that bad"
So I braved it, got some roller skates on. Now at this roller rink all the superfast skaters skate on the outside and all us who have no idea how to stand on skates or who can barely handle moving once we stand skate in the middle.
Do you see the problem?? I who was attempting my 3rd time ever rollerskating had to play frogger. You know that old game where the frog tries to make it across the road without being squished. Well I was the frog, which is quite appropriate since my nickname in school was Kermit the Frog.
I shook inwardly in terror at teens whizzing by. I made it and attempted moving around in an oval. I literaly got stuck in one spot, unable to move for I’d say over a minute. The first time I fell I made the classic mistake of putting my hand behind me. My right palm screamed at me. Ok self I said do not do that again.
I’d say I went an hour without falling then I got cocky. I’m getting the hang of this, woohoo. Wham on my right glute/ham/hip area(at least I didn’t try to catch myself) Well tears sprang to my eyes because the pain was so bad.
Dusted myself off and gave myself a pep talk and skated to the railing and got my composure. Can’t have my son see his Mom crying like a little kid, but damn it hurt then and it hurts 2x as bad today.
Got my nerve back up, went and skated another hour before I fell again, this time just to keep my glute/ham area balanced I fell on the left side, not on purpose, that’s how it worked out, thankfully it barely hurt or maybe it did and I didn’t notice because I’d been sucking up the pain from the previous fall.
So today I can barely walk without pain in the glute/ham area. They are a lovely deep purple. My right palm is purple from the thumb up to almost the middle finger, and I’m a righty. NO workout today, gave my war wounds some rest but I am working out tommorow but it might be light weights if my right hand gives me fits, and guess what tommorow is leg day!
We’ll see how I fair thru it. Of course my son fell numerous times, but he had fun and has no fear of trying again, so I did what I set out to do.

haha… well at least it wasn’t just me who had a rough weekend! Hope it feels better soon!

You are a brave mommy! May your contusions heal swiftly!
I used to love roller skating and got cocky myself doing the cross-one-leg-over-the-other maneuver to go around the curve of the oval floor. I’d inevitably get tripped up and fall as Air Supply played on the intercom.

nope you’re not the only one who had a bad weekend.
Shannon-my family just never took me to roller rink, I think because my Mother couldn’t skate, thus my inability to skate, but my abs of steel must have helped keep me up, lol.

The worst is that shriek from your palms as they slide across the floor collecting 3rd deree burns. Youch!!!

This made me wince reading it!! I feel for you! I bet your son loved the fact that you got out on the floor with him! When he gets older, he will probably cringe if you even speak in his general vicinity, so treasure all those moments!!
The only time my oldest gets really nice and loving towards me now is when she wants something!
lol

When I read the title, the first thought that came to mind was, ‘I bet she got right back up.’
Oh yeah. Nice job on the skates. At least ya tried and made a strong effort cause me, being my mothers son, always loved when she would join/help in such activities. So no doubt your son was thankful as well.
I hope the war scars heal quickly for ya and you get back out there to roller skate again!
….this time knocking over those damn teens wizzing by ya…
I’ll be roller skating for the first time since high school this wednsday. I’ll be hurtin too afterwards.

Ouch. That’s backwards from normal rinks where the new people cling to the outer wall and slowly make their way around practicing with the safety of the wall. Strange.

I don’t know why but when I read this post the Destiny’s Child’s song "Survivor" just popped into my head…
"I’m a survivor (what),
I’m not gonna give up (what),
I’m not gon’ stop (what),
I’m gonna work harder (what),
I’m a survivor (what),
I’m gonna make it (what),
I will survive (what),
Keep on survivin’ (what),"

Kudos for being a brave & involved mom. Those war wounds will fade, but not your son’s memory of skating with mom.
I’m a total klutz at rollerskating or iceskating. The last time we took our girls iceskating, my wife took a spill backwards & hit her head on that concrete ice. Whew, she saw stars, and I feared a concussion, or worse! Thankfully, all she got was a bad headache.

several people see my right palm and ask if I broke it, thankfully no.
Kimberly-I know before I know it he’ll be asking me to dunk down when I drop him off somewhere.
Mike-Yep, I get knocked down but I get up again, nothing going to keep me down.
brad-I know! I mean WTF, are they trying to scare us newbies from trying?
veronique- I love that song
Al-scary on your wife. I once had a mild concussion after conking my head on our old boat, no fun.
