Have I mentioned I hate the scale?

Ok I’ve been a workout machine for over a month, I’ve eaten clean 85 to 90% of the time and within one week I’ve went up 9lbs??? WTF? I mean hello, if I’m going to gain that much weight it should be from eating cookies, candy, pies galore not healthy food. I"m so frustrated. Funny thing is my clothes are loose, I would think they would be tight gaining 9lbs.

I have a feeling by thyroid is out of whack or maybe I’m sleep eating. I watched a special on that once, but unless I’m also buying food to replace the food I’m sleep eating then no. Thinking maybe I’m not eating enough for the amount of workouts I do so I’m switching that.

I’m not going to stress too much, like I said my clothes are actually looser and my naked butt has loss some cellulite. UGH! Ok enough ranting

Today I did:

circuits

atf squats

85×8x3

calf raises(toes in,straight, out)

85×15x3

Smith lunges, leaning chest forward

85×8x3

calf raises(toes in,s,o)

85×15x3

Leg press on Smith(lower start position)

125×8x3

static lunges

50×8x3

single leg ext

80×8x3

standing hamstring curls

50×8x3

wu was 5min of jumping jacks, hitting Bob

cd was 5min stretching

Only 30min cardio today, HIIT on rbike

Had to take my kiddo to the ENT doctor and then we met up with my hubby for lunch at Applebees

Food so far: egg whites, egg yolk, salsa, turkey sausage, sirloin, mixed veggies,

I should buy some chickens, I eat so many egg whites its ridiculious I should be growing gills from the tuna and laying eggs from the chicken.

I’m actually down an inch in my hips and quads, which is awesome! Up 1/2 inch on the chest. Nothing on the waist, I’m currently at 26 1/2 inches and I’m not sure if I can lean out there anymore. My shoulders and biceps and triceps all gained! I"m going to be showing off my back and arms at the pool this summer.

An excellent example of how muscle weighs more than fat. As long as your clothes are loose, forget the scale! You’re doing great!

Thanks. I don’t know why I get on the scale, it just brings me down and brings up other old buried issues from when I was a teen.

At least muscle is pretty, lol.

Oh girl, I feel your pain on the scale issue! Isn’t it crazy how we obsess about it EVEN knowing that muscle weighs more and that clothes and measurements are a much better reflection on how our bodies are changing for the better (or worse). Even though I know all of this information and consider myself an intellectual person, that damn scale takes my brain level to that of a five year old throwing a tantrum! lol

That is awesome on your measurements!! And a 26 inch waist!?!?! I can’t wait until I get there. Right now mine is 28"

Ditto. Toss that scale out the window! You already answered your worry…..clothes are loose, lost inches, etc. My wt can vary 3-5 lbs from just 1 day to the next. Scales give you a number……no biggie.

Ditto on the foods. I’m either bubbling or gurgling…….. :D

  5. Al--1961 Says:

I meant to say either clucking or gurgling.

Come to think, with my legs…probably clucking. ;)

I get big weight fluctuations like that too, but my clothes never feel tighter even when I’ve gained 7 lbs of water weight.

I like to step on the scale just to see how things are going and don’t get too upset over an immediate gain. End of the month results are what I pay attention to the most.

I gave up using the scale ages ago, one of the best things I ever did!

  8. kbyers01 Says:

I’d throw it out, but my hubby weighs himself everyday, and would miss it. I’m just amazed at the water weight I can gain its insane.

Thanks Fitclub, Al, Shannon and Coley. I know not to go by the scale but I think as women we are always told to go by weight from the time we were preteens and its a hard habit to break, I’m doing better down to weighing myself once a week. I think I’m going to take Shannon’s advice and just do it once a month, same time of day, same time of my cycle, etc.

I think women have a love/hate relationship with scales. :)
I’m in the same situation, I’m not seeing the numbers on the scale change but my clothes are looser and I’m still getting the "you’re fading away!" comments.
I found that the more I weighed myself the more it depressed me… so totally once a month only!

  10. kbyers01 Says:

you’re right, once a month it is.

  11. Stryka Says:

By habit I jump on the scale after every gym session, I am not concerned at the daily fluctuations (I can gain/lose a kg overnight easy) but does help to identify the trends.

BF % is much better to judge by because it singles out the fat.

Best thing though is what you are using. If the clothes are looser then who cares what the scales say.

December and early Jan I was eating as clean as possible and kept gaining weight. (I check myself almost every morning) I saw a dietition and gave her my food log for the past month and a half and she said although I am eating clean, I was eating too much and not burning enough of it off.

I took her advice, cut my servings in half and just increased my cardio to 20 minutes about 3-4 times a week and a week and a half into it I noticed the weight drop. Then I maintained at 142.

Well, all Im saying is, maybe you can try cutting your sevings down a little too. but based on what you were posting, losing inches where you want it to be lost, gaining tone where you want it to be gained, and clothes still fitting loose, sounds like your still doing a great job! ;)

It sounds like you’ve made good progress…down ONE INCH in the waist is awesome. I am having a similar problem, only trying to gain weight. I’ve decided to ditch the scale…F-it. After all, I can no longer roll up the sleeves on my shirt b/c my arms have grown so much.

    Ryan, thanks
Magl-going to log my food for the week and see. I’m thinking I’m not eating enough based on how much I’ve been working out, 90 to 120minutes, seems I’m averaging(based on 3 days, 1300-1500 from fitday)
Welder-the scale really messes with the mind doesn’t it, keep up the hard work.
