changing at a cellular level

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

I think we all get so excited about possible changes when we first start working out that we forget just how many changes the naked eye can’t see.

We forget that our lung capacity is improving from all the cardio we’ve been doing. We forget that it takes less effort for our heart to pump our blood and our blood pressure decreases.

we forget that for each time we lift weights and stress the muscle causing it to repair itself, we are building a stronger more compact muscle that might not show in the measuring tape right away but given time we’ll see that number change.

We forget that by doing weight bearing exercise, we are helping to build our bone mass and fight off bone loss.

Speaking as a cancer survivor I often think about cells. How something so tiny dictates our health and how important it is to take care of our bodies as a whole.

So even though the scale might move in the wrong direction or the measuring tape doesn’t decrease as quickly as you would like, think about the cells in your body, how they are changing for the better and given time your outward appearance will show it too.

Zombie Running

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

That’s what I need to think of when I run. A hungry aggressive zombie chasing me wanting to rip me to pieces. Maybe then I’d get a runner’s high for saving my life from the crazed zombie. Not the slow assed ones from the original NIght of the Living Dead. I’m talking the insane crazed ones from 28 days later or Resident Evil.

Can you tell today’s cardio was running, light albeit runnin none the less.

50min of light running on my treadmill.

Its uber cold here. Hard to get out of bed when the high yesterday was only 8 degrees. Today it was 23. Heck I almost put on a bikini and layed out, NOT!

I’ve been stalking blogs, reading them, not responding. It cracks me up that I’m stalking about 8 people right now. They should show who stalks your blogs but never responds.

So today I was thinking about beer, no idea why but one sounded good, thankfully I do not have any in the house. I think it had to do with a friend telling me that he on average drank a 6 pack of beer a night. I can’t imagine doing that, but an occasional beer is ok.

I’m reading Eclipse right now. I just can’t get into the Edward and Isabella romance. Seems like she has no meaning in her life except to be his which is like total bullsh*t to be telling young girls. Give me a nice independent character. A woman who can kick some ass and take her man when she wants where she wants.

Of course I’ll read all the damn books, I just love vampire books but I far like Anita Blake better than Isabella.

Legs that can kick a 300lb man across the room

Friday, January 16th, 2009

That’s what I imagine each time I work legs. Me gearing up to kick a 300lb man across a room. To get them that way I have to work them hard.

The hydroxycut helps my energy level I’ve noticed which is good, let’s me push myself even harder than what I normally do.

I did get some fasted cardio in today: 35min ss on my treadmill

Dressed in several layers of clothing. I’ve never been a girly girl and feel I need to look pretty while working out. Why? Because by the end I’m a big sweaty mess and I’m really doubtful that at the end of my workout anyone would say "Wow look how hot she looks"

Doesn’t matter, I’m on a mission to get in the best shape possible and as Ryan said what pushes me is: You. Can’t have someone out there lifting harder than me, doing harder cardio than me. Got to be the best me I can, and I like imagining leaving people behind me as I race to the finish line.

I did legs today as my title indicates.

10min wu on rbke

circuits

free bar squats

130×8x3

calf raises(in,straight, out toes)

130×8x3

hanging ab raises: 15

butt squats

105×8x3

single leg ext

60×8x3

hanging ab raises: 15

sldls

95×8x3

single hamstring curls

35×8x3

hanging ab raises: 15

leg ext(toes in,straight, out)

100×8x3

hamstring curls(feet together, reg, out)

80×8x3

hanging ab raises: 15

10min cooldown on rbike.

Bitterly cold here. No wonder people gain weight in the winter. Right now its a nice 2 degrees, lol. So I dress in layers, I’d rather be in layers of clothes than fat.

So when you’re freezing put some more clothes on and put down those chips. Fat is not pretty, its wobbly and ugly. Muscle is firm and shapely! That’s what I tell myself.

cardio seems so simple

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Think of a plan: ss or HIIT, next a time, then a machine and do it. Not like on weight lifting days when I think: what body parts to I want to work, what exercises should I do? which ones in a circuit, how many sets, how many reps.

Though given a choice I’d rather do weight lifting any day. Alas cardio is necessary, the heart is a muscle and it needs worked. I need to sweat out some extra fat cells that lifting alone will not do.

Today was just cardio:

25min fasted ss cardio on my treadmill

Later I did 30min HIIT on the rbike.

I watch ER when I do late morning cardio, I haven’t watched it on its regular night for ages. Still the same old show just different doctors.

I was very happy the other day when I saw how good Jerry did at home on the Biggest Loser. Though it seems strange to have worked out 6 hours a day and only lose 1 to 2 pounds. I’d say the Jillian Beatings will begin during next weeks biggest loser.

And OMG when Bob went off on his team member I loved it, I was shocked and surprised he seems, uh how should I put it, a pushover sometimes, glad to see he isn’t. I’d need someone being a drill sergeant to me to fire my ass up big time, though 250,000 wouldn’t hurt at all, it would push me.

Been using the $5000, and $100000 as motivation from the hydroxycut contests. Too bad I can’t have Jillian here screaming at me to push it harder too.

Winter wasteland

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

That’s what it looks like today. I think I gave a neighbor a "are you insane look" when they commented how pretty the snow looked. People have no clue how to drive around here half the time in good weather let alone bad weather.

Winter storm warning, high of 4 degrees tommorow. Yes snow is lovely, not.

But I did get a workout in which is great.

30min fasted HIIT on rbike

later I did:

10min wu on elpictical

circuits(I was a pushup Queen)

pushups

10×3

wide grip bench press

65×8x3

decline pushups

10×3

regular grip bench press

95×8x3

incline pushups

8×3

narrow grip bench press

75×8x3

perfect pushups

8×3

cable flys

30×8x3

10min cooldown on elpictical.

Even later I did: 25min ss cardio on my treadmill. I’m curious how soon before I hit 1000 miles on it, I’m at 866 right now.

Saw a hysterical video on Shannon’s blog. The Hawaiin chair. Laughed my ass off thinking about the things people spend their hard earned money on looking for a quick fix where the best thing is eating clean and working out, a Hell of lot cheaper than buying quick fix, never work gadgets.

One size fits all

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

Seems like alot of people believe that. I get asked "what are you eating" "how are you working out" I have no problem sharing what I do. What works best for me, what doesn’t. And that’s it!

One workout is not so perfect everyone should do it. One diet is not the absolute only way to eat. You know why? Because we’re humans, we are unique individuals. And what works for you might not work for me, and vice versa.

When I tell people that, they get this mortified look on their face. Its like they want to believe there’s a magic diet or a magic workout that will make getting in shape easy. Well there isn’t. Its hit and miss. You got to find what works best for your body and mind. You don’t want to do such a stringent workout that you’ll likely stop it within a week. You don’t want to follow such a strict diet that your significant other finds you curled on the floor in front of the fridge covered in food.

No you have to find what works for you, for your body chemistry. I wish there was a one size fits all kind of diet/exercise that if we did, we were all instantly in shape and had no shame running around naked, but alas there isn’t.

I know that when I eat grains, any grains I retain water out the yahoo, while I have a friend that could eat oatmeal, coucous, rice all day and lose weight no problem. I know if I slack on cardio and don’t do some form of it at least 5 days a week the pants might feel a little snug, while I have a friend who never has to do cardio.(Yes I don’t like her sometimes, lol)

But that’s what’s great about being humans we’re all unique, thanks to dna.

I got a workout in but I also had to go pick my child up today from school because they were sick.

I did legs:

10min wu on rbike

circuits

free bar squats: 125×8x3

straight leg cable kickbacks: 30×8x3

leg press on smith: 200×8x3

outter leg lifts: 23×20x3

sumo free bar squats:115×8x3

cable adduction: 30×8x3

free bar squats legs together: 100×8x3

db donkey kicks: 20×15x3

10min cooldown on rbike.

NO fasted cardio this morning I was up too late last night. Will hit it tommorow.

Trudging thru snow has to burn extra calories? Right?

Monday, January 12th, 2009

I loathe snow, and we got a lot of last night. So I’ve been telling myself that I’m burning extra calories has I trudge thru it.

This weekend I had the flu, the kind where you’re freezing and the toliet is your best friend, where you feel like you have a hangover only you weren’t drinking last night? Know what I mean.

I felt better today so I worked out, did my fasted cardio this morning

30min HIIT on rbike

And later I did:

10min wu on ellpictical

circuits

clean & Jerk

42×8x3

inverted pullups

8×3

upright rows

50×8x3

shoulder press

20×8x3

Pendley rows

60×8x3

inverted chinups

8×3

seated rows

90×8x3

military press

15×8x3

10min cooldown on ellpictical.

Then off trudging thru the dreaded white stuff and I found a movie I’ve been trying to find: The Descent. I was so excited I didn’t want to order it online and pay shipping etc. So now I can clean it off my dvr.

I’ve noticed I’m a sweating machine today, not sure if that’s the flu still or the hydroxycut, hopefully some fat is leaving in the sweat.

I’m jealous of guys

Friday, January 9th, 2009

More specifically the fact that their asses seldom get cellulite. What got me on my butt rant? About Last Night was on and there it was Rob Lowe’s perfect cellulite free butt.

Of course I’m jealous of guys for other things too, like the fact they can have the hairiest arm pitts ever and no one bats an eye. Same with shall we say the underwear line, unless the guy is into wearing bikinis, then the bikini line. Sigh.

Of course being a woman I can do things guys can’t so it all works out suppose but I just needed to vent my jealousy there for a moment.

Today I did my fasted cardio for extra kicks in my sauna suit because its cold here and I"m a cheap butt and refuse to have the heat on in my cardio room, all night.

45min fasted ss cardio

Then later I did

My usual beating on Bob for 5minutes

circuits

pause squats

100×8x3

w/smith lunges

95×8x3

sldls

115×8x3

w/walking lunges

32×10x3

Plie squats w/free bar on my back

80×8x3

steps ups on my 32" step

15×10x3

sumo deadlifts(feeling the burn with these today)

95×8x3

bulgarians

15×8x3

5min stretching.

More snow heading this way, oh joy. I need to live somewhere warm that never ever gets snow, that would make me a happy camper.

overtraining

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

So I’ve been thinking after some reading of course that I’ve been overtraining myself for like a year, so I’m changing my plan for January and February and I’m only going to lift 4 days a week instead of 5 or 6 but keep my cardio at 5 to 6 days. I’m one of those people if I don’t do at least 20minutes of cardio I balloon up. Sucks but true.

So today was just my fasted cardio,

30min HIIT on rbike

20min ss on ellpictical.

We got hit with some snow here, guess I won’t complain since this is the first real snow we’ve had all winter.

I had someone send me a pm wanting to know if hydroxycut works, so far I’ve had no issues and I’ve noticed some extra energy which is crucial with workouts and I’m not as hungry. Everyone’s different though.

Tommorow will be legs, and cardio, Saturday just major cardio. My legs will show darn it! They are strong, last time I worked out at a gym I could do like 425 on the leg press, why oh why do my hamstrings and quads refuse to show. And my calves, damn they could lift uber weight, but do they show? Uh no.

But by the end of the contest they will. Man I feel like Scarlett Ohara instead of saying "I swear I will never be hungry again" I’m swearing "I swear by that all that is in me my lower body is going to look hot!"

Burning 500 calories during cardio

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

So that’s been my goal, especially after how well Shannon has been doing. So I’ve reached that every day and some. If this fat doesn’t move off the lower half of me I have no idea what to do. so thanks Shannon!

Today fasted cardio: 30min HIIT on ellpictical, 15min ss on rbike

Then later I did back/bis

wu beating on Bob(he loves it when I call him names when I’m thumping on him)

circuits(no rest for the fat burning machine)

underhand close grip lat pulldowns

90×8x3

inverted pullups

8×3

one arm db rows

28×8x3

bent over lat rows

15×8x3

wide grip overhand lat pulldowns

70×8x3

inverted chinups

8×3

face pulls

50×8x3

back ext

12×3

5min stretching

Then later after some house cleaning, including my basement I did

50min ss cardio on treadmill.

I don’t know if you can tell by my blog but I really want to do well during the Hydroxycut contests, LOL.

I don’t usually do well with contests, if there are 3 winners, I can guarantee I’m usually 4th. Always a active spectator never a contender it seems but Damn it! I will be this time. I know I can do well, and I want others to see that.

So I live in Ohio, I never have trouble getting to The ARnold its only 40minutes from where I live. This year I’m going to try and watch a friend compete in the amatuer. She’s a mother of 4, and looks awesome. Go Ali Swanson! Kick some major butt.

Plus I get to hook up with some friends I met over the internet, we got to meet last year and maybe some others. I know Muscelfetish will be there, I’ll have to see if she’s competing against Ali. It will be my first figure comp to see in person, should be cool.

So of course I want my buds to see me looking in awesome shape!
