What an adventure! To save money, a group of us decided to fly into Buffalo, rent a car, and drive to Toronto. We partnered on hotel rooms and the like. The plan seemed fool proof.
The unraveling began with me missing my flight and arriving in Buffalo an hour later than scheduled. Fellow competitors, already in Buffalo, decided to rent a car and leave. Feeling disappointed, yet understanding the low carb reaction of my associates, I went to the rental car office and I was happy that they downgraded my Tahoe reservation to a compact. Then I received the call that led to two more hours in the car rental office.
The driver of the rental car, you know the people who left me……lol, did not have the appropriate paperwork to cross the border. Therefore, I had to wait and see what the outcome of this debacle would be and switch my reservation once again to ensure we would have enough room for everyone. Well, after I once again apologized for my irresponsibility regarding missing the plane(not being able to find my passport, nail specialist cutting my hand having to take extra time during my manicure…lol) and expressing how I thought they could have waited for me…..we had fun during the drive. Some of this is captured on Diana Chaloux video of the FAME WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS for BODYBUILDING.COM.
Once in Toronto, to my surprise, some people had alternative plans regarding hotel accomodations and travel while in Toronto to cut expenses for themselves. Yes, I am serious. I will not dwell on the particulars of this issue. Let’s get to the next day’s action.
I was so happy that we had a full day before our competition. Our media day was a blast as we travelled through Toronto on a sightseeing tour bus in swimwear promoting the show. The city was buzzing!!! Our raid of a local radio station was hilarious.
The Open/Novice show was great. The new talent in FAME is awesome. I always thought it would have been nice for a FAME PRO to say welcome when I won my pro card so I felt compelled to attend the show despite the fact that I was tired. I was also able to witness what the judges were looking for since the selections were pretty consistent as to the body type and stage presentation for each catagory.
The catagories I competed in were Fitness Model and Muscle Model. I had the distinct honor to win both of these categories at the North American Championships in Miami, November of 2007. However, I knew World Championships would be different. Miami had about 225 competitors and Worlds would have about 400. Additionally, I know everyone would step their game up. I decided that my primary focus would be Fitness Model. Oh! You want to know what is the difference b/n the two categories. Muscle is primary an off shoot of fitness model for bigger guys. The way you present yourself on stage is similar with subtle but important differences. Muscle model stage presentation should be smooth but you widen your back and flex more while apprearing to be relaxed. Fitness model is relaxed, yet flexing the abs constantly and the legs on occasion. But, no need to show the span of the lats!
Speaking of span. The time span of the show was long. 65 competitiors in the Masters/Seniors show led to rescheduling the evening show. And their show was great!!! Truly motivational!!!
At the end of the night, surprisingly not too late, I was crowned the WNSO FAME Fitness Model World Champion. Richtree restuarant was the spot with outstanding variety and fresh food. I only cheated a little. I still had to start my smorgasbord with a salad….lol
