Wow - how time flies, considering my last blog entry. It’s been a busy, stressful few months for me. But I’ve kept up with my training, but I did decide to drop out of the IMPC at the 1st of June. I know that to compete in anything, your mind has to be in the game just as much as your body. My mind wasn’t in it. Too much stress at home and work to make it worthwhile. Training has always been my stress reliever. But with a "competition" in the back of my mind, it became a new stress to an already overloaded life. I didn’t need that. I wanted to enjoy my gym time. I wanted to enjoy a cheat meal when ever I darn well pleased - and not feel bad about it. So, I dropped. We’ll see how things are next year.

I’m back to a five day split, hitting each muscle group hard and heavy - typically 4 sets of 8 reps, moving up in weight when that last set is a good clean one, with no, um, cheating on those last two or three reps. Some things I pyramid up, and end up doing multiple sets - typically this is on leg day.

I got a tattoo on the 1st of July, on my left shoulder. I decided to give my upper body work a break for a week while it healed. This allowed me to hit my legs three times in a week for a bit of a shock. This week I’ve started my upper body work again.

So, nothing earth shattering to put in the blog. I just wanted to keep it going. Hopefully I’ll find something more interesting to write about and keep this thing more up to date.

Holy Crap, what have I gotten myself into? I officially signed up for an online bb contest - monthly picture submissions and such from now until November. I know it’s nothing like a live competition - but who the hell thought I’d be crazy enough for this!! Well, if nothing else, it will motivate me to put in even more. Part of me says its just silly - an ego trip or something. But another part of me wants to stop seeing that fat kid in the mirror every day… maybe this will help.

I’m back to DC training, am at a new gym, and everyone tells me I’m packing a lot of muscle around. So, who knows what this will bring. Hopefully all good.

Hello, all! Not sure that anyone will ever visit this spot.. but I figure just in case, I should have something in here.

FYI - I’m 38 years old, 5′11" tall, and weigh right around 225lbs. I started bb’ing September of 2004, after a 17 year hiatus from lifting. I have no grand illusions for myself. I just want to do the best I can at this game known as bb’ing. I don’t have any plans to compete. I know I don’t have the dieting discipline to get there. BUT I would like to pack on enough muscle to someday be able to say I could compete, if I really wanted to.

My style of training, since the middle of December, 2006, is DC training - Doggcrapp training. For those interested, you can check out my journal in the over 35 section of bb.com. http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=689331 This particular journal was started in 2006, and shows several different training styles. But now that I’ve started DC training in earnest, I love it and can’t see myself changing back to any more "traditional" style of training. By the way, for more info on DC training, just Google "Doggcrapp"

Anyway, yesterdays workout, 2/7/07 was particularly rewarding for me - not only physcially, but psychologically as well. I wrote about the "benefits" I reaped in another person’s journal, and thought I’d share it here, too:

Isn’t it funny what we get pleasure out of when we BB? I mean there are very few at my gym that go to the "other" DB rack for anything. I’ve found myself honestly envying those who do use the heavier weights… wanting to do it myself. Well, now I have with one exercise, and I’m probably ready on another (db curls). Looking back to Sept. of 04, it’s hard to believe I’ve come as far as I have… I started with 20lbs I think on those buggers. That’s not to say that I’ve come a long way in comparison to others… but for ME it’s huge. Just wish I’d stuck with it from college days onward! But yesterday was definately a big psychological boost for me.
