February 9th Journal entry

Monday, February 9th, 2009

For the first time in a month I was able to work my chest.  Got in some benching, presses and flyes.  My shoulder was feeling well enough to do that and it felt great and gave my spirits a lift.  Have been working my shoulders again also and they are getting stronger. I remember the Physical therapist telling me that I have to work through the pain during my shoulder rehab and it is paying off.  The stronger the shoulder gets the more the pain fades away. It’s all-good.

I have remained committed to my diet and have 5 dozen boiled eggs on standby at all times for a quick source of protein as needed.  I like using the zero carb Isopure because it delivers 50 grams protein with zero fat and is only 200 calories.

Today my legs are sore from yesterday’s leg workout. Did the entire rack on  the abductor and adductor machines and my legs are feeling it.  They are coming along well and are starting to look even better.  My claves have gotten ripped and solid as a rock and the rest of me has to catch up. Losing weight was the easy part but losing fat is another matter.  It is all dependant on diet and patience. That will happen in time.

I am looking forward to tonight’s HIT cycling cardio class.  It has gotten really popular and I will arrive at the gym 90 minutes early just to get on the sign in sheet. It will give me a chance to get in a good stretch and work my abs before the class begins.  Will do back-to-back sessions for 90 minutes.  As in last year, I have noticed that the gym is becoming less and less crowded as the New Years resolutions fade away. I imagine that it will level off in March like it did last year.

5 more to go!

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

I am only 5 pounds away from losing 100 pounds to my goal weight of 170 pounds. I have finally managed to get over my plateau.

I was working harder than ever and was only getting more and more discouraged and frustrated because the weight stuck to me like glue. This was the longest plateau that I have hit to date but I am glad its over.

The truth of the matter is that I was not giving myself adequate recovery time. I was doing an insane amount of cardio every day and was not giving my body enough rest. I almost bottomed out from being stuck at 176 for so long.  I was border lining on being self-destructive, meaning saying the hell with it all and start pigging out, but I didn’t.

I decided to work out every other day and it paid off.   Sometimes less is more. The rest did me a world of good and helped me to get centered and focused again. It also made me appreciate my workouts even more.

I am eating clean and learned to really like my evening snack of grapefruit and a few strawberries. Now I am back to feeling accomplished.  The last 5 pounds will soon be history.

February 2nd Journal entry

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

I got my good carbs in this morning so that they would burn off during the course of the day.

Ate clean all day.

Did 90 minutes HIT cycling cardio- was soaking wet.

Worked abs hitting all angles.

Shoulder sore.

Tonight, I spoke to the HIT to the cycling instructor and one of the trainers.  They told me to SLOW DOWN.

I am going to take tomorrow off from the gym and decided to work out every other day.

I am still stuck at 176 pounds.  With all of the HIT cardio that I have been doing I think my body has completely adjusted to it.  This is the biggest plateau that I have hit yet.

I am going to start giving my body adequate recovery time so every other day should be good.  The trainers told me that if I do this for a few weeks I would most likely lose the last 6 pounds without having to work so hard at it. I’ve gotten so used to going to the gym every day that it is going to be a tough adjustment.  Sometimes too much of a good thing can be counterproductive.

Will see how it goes and keep a positive attitude and continue moving forward.
