Fruits in a cutting diet for this hypoglycemic
After my first phase of my diet where I replaced 75% of my carbs with fruit (namely berries, oranges, apples, grapefruits, cherries, grapes & mandarins), I was successful in dropping 6 lbs after 8 weeks of dieting. Which is pretty much the same rate as I lost on a traditional bodybuilders’ fat loss diet. Despite all the bad rap that fruits get because of it’s fructose content (fructose, by the way, scores in the lower 30s of the GI list, placing below pretty much all the traditional slow-release carbs in bodybuilders’ diets). I refuse to believe fructose is that ‘bad’ sugar. I mean, if you are limiting yourself to a certain amount, why not. It’s not like i am eating 10 lbs of apples. A
I am aware that high fructose corn syrup is like 50/50 sucrose (table sugar) and fructose; I hope it’s name isn’t part of this prejudice.
I have just entered my 2nd phase and hoping to drop down another 5 lbs over the next 6-8 weeks.
Let’s see how it all goes.
Please watch my weekly progress pictures. I shoot for 1 lbs of fat loss a week

I agree with you about fruit not being all that bad. plus people have to learn what works best for them. Keep up the good work..

What a great blog, I totally love eating fruit mainly cherries and Water Melon. i think it just depends on what your body agrees with in terms of dieting.

You know, its funny. In a day I will only eat one apple, one banana, and in my protein shake a handful of blueberries and another of strawberries. I don’t eat any of the white stuff and my sugar intake is still high. I always feel guilty!!!

I hate all the conflicting info on fruits. WHEN should you eat them????

You can eat fruit anytime, as long as it’s carb makeup fits into YOUR diet.
I eat them as part of a post workout shake and with meals throughout the day. Never alone or without a protein source.
But that’s just me.

I think its important to know the difference between good sugars and bad sugars much inthe same way good and bad cholesterol. I just have a hard time believing that anything naturally grown from the earth can be bad for you.

I’ve heard post workout is no good and why never alone?

Wayne, Tobacco. It can happen.
Joe, some people believe and science supports to some degree the fact that processed sugars are more readily absorbed by muscles and your liver in the form of glycogen than unprocessed sugars like those in fruit. I’m not eating sugar, so I use fruit instead. It works for me.

gotcha!

Oh, the other part of your question. I never eat carbohydrates alone. If I do, no matter what the source, I get a blood sugar spike and corresponding drop that makes me very tired. Also, carbs consumed alone are more likely to end up as increased body fat than carbs ingested as part of a more balanced meal.

Ok Crab well some things but I hope no one eats tobacco HAHA! In terms of food, i’ll still take the fruit over processed sugars. Now when we talk fruit juice….Now that is where we can get in trouble

Wayne, I will often use fruit juice as part of a post workout recovery shake. Has to be 100% fruit juice. Nothing else will do.
On the tobacco thing, I used to eat it by the can. It’s one tax I’m really glad they raised.

I eat my fruit in the AM! Usually berries or apple in my oatmeal or quinoa.

I am hearing so much about Quinoa… I’m going to look into it for my 2nd phase of dieting. Thanks everyone for their input
