cheater curls?

January 8, 2009

i was just on youtube wathcing some lifitng vids, but after watching several videos of guys claiming to curl weights i just could not take it anymore. Now some at least acknowledged that they were using hip english to get the weight up, but still what they were really doing was a powerclean with a reverse hand-grip.

Every aritcle that i have ever read on cheat curling ( and i admit i is only like two or three) said to choose weights a little higher than what you can do. NOT TWENTY THIRTY OR FIFTY FOUNDS and then use only minimal hip motion to move the wieght.  that means for a guy like me at my present strenght i would use like one-forty to one-fifty at most.

i dont know why this  bothers me so much, but i does. i guess the biggest reason is guys get hurt doing stupid shit that this and that is never good for gym goers. hell it was not twenty years ago that people thought weightlifting would make you muscle bound and imobile and that if you quite lifting all your muscle would go to fat ( i still hear this today sometimes). the last thing we need is a sterotype that heavy lifitng only leads to injury because, with the way america goes with law suites  today,if that happens a gym with heavy dumbles, olympic bars, and hundred-pound plates will be rare.

just food for thought on something that by way of watching youtube is a growing act stupidy.
