deadlifts

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

Did a good back workout today. Started with pullups, 3 sets of 8. Next was t-bar rows. Did pulldowns after that. Up to here, I had to keep my palms towaed me to minimize discomfort in my right forearm. The elbow felt fine, just had to be careful of lingering soreness in the forearm. Went to right arm only seated rows. ( lower right lat less developed tha left) Finished back work with deads. Went to 365 x 3 or 4. Elbow was just fine during deadlifting.
Did ez bar curls, hammer curls, and left arm only dumbell drag curls. (left arm smaller than right)
Had some soreness in the elbow tonite, but pretty good now. Forearm is better now too. Removed the brace, and I improve. Wish I would have known this sooner. Hope the improvement continues. Will have to begin cutting wood soon enough. Will be cautious  with elbow for a while yet.
The occasional one sided work will continue to try to even out my lousy symetry. Too many years of mostly compound lifts.

Some improvements, some not

Mixed messages lately. Dont seem as strong on squats, but my leg press is better than ever. Went up to 700 x 4 pressing today. I Am satisfied with that. (for now) I will continue to work to improve this, of course.
Elbow, after several days of improvement, has regressed a little. Kept forgetting to put on my forearm band, and the pain subsided anyway. Well, yesterday I put it on and got fairly sore. I will go without the band again for a day or 2. See if it improves again.
Sure would like to try deadlifting again saturday.
After some good gains during the 5×5, my weight has dropped slightly. Its ok, I expected it. Looking forward to round 2 of the 5×5!

Gave the elbow a little test today. Did some benching. Only went up to 155 x 12, but it held up very well. Last couple days have not been too bad, pain-wise. Maybe I will be able to resume some upper body training in the next few weeks. Even some light work would be great.

change of plans

I really have little choice buy to rest the elbow now. The pain has not been getting any better. In fact, it even interfered with fishing yesterday. Yes, fishing.
The plan right now is to rest it as long as needed. The bright side is that my left arm is smaller than the injured right side. I will continue to work the left arm in hopes of it catching up to the other side a little.I will also continue with leg work, cardio, and abs.
I realize that tendonitis will take time to heal. But I hope to get back to full upper body work some time this year yet.

Persistant elbow

Still doing a "light" workout. In recovery from the 5×5, and the elbow still is sore. I want to move to heavier weights next week, and will likely take an extra couple days off this weekend. Really dont want to avoid working out all together because of the elbow. By the end of October I will be hitting the infrequently. And by mid November deer hunting will keep me out of the gym completely for a week and a half. Dont want to rest now AND later.
