315 BENCH

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Blasted my p.b. bench press of 300 twice today. My third and fourth sets were 305 x 2 reps. Then my last set was a 315 x 1 rep. This bench program is going great. Barely 2 weeks ago, 315 was a forced rep. Today it went up easier (not easy) than expected. 4 remaining workouts left in the program. I should end up around 330 for my 1rm. That would be a 35 pound increase in just 7 weeks!

125 Barbell Curl

Intended to do 1 forced rep with negative at 125 barbell curl. Ended up doing the rep without needing my spotter. Surprised myself with that one!
Thinking I may enter my first comp in 2010. A little ways away, I know. But I want time to even out some of my glaring symetry problems and add a lot more mass. Maybe if I get a wild hair, I will sign up for one sooner. But that is my current target.

Put up a 300 pound bench press this morning. Never before could get past that 295 barrier before. This bench press program I am on sure is working great! There is much more to come since I am only half way through the program! Cant wait to see where I end up after the 7 weeks are up!

Over the hill!

Went "over the hill" today. I will do my first comp in the 40 and over division. Whenever that may be. Been learning a few lessons lately. First, deadlifting is critical for mass gain in my case. Was unable to get to the gym for back day for a couple cycles in a row. I lost weight because of it. I worked out at home, but do not have enough weight to deadlift effectively.
Also, there is no one key to mass gain. Nutrition, training, rest and other parameters all play equal parts in muscle gain. I am still trying to find the best balance. Proper sleep is my biggest downfall.
Been doing mostly strength training lately. Am on a bench press program, and will be till august 11. So I figured I might as well strength train the rest of the body as well during this period. Will go back to mass training after the bench program is completed.

Movin up!

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Doing well on the bench press program introduced to me by another bb.com`er. Had a fail test today and did well. Get to move up in weight for the next workouts. On pace to increase my bench by about 30 lbs. Cant wait to see where I end up at after the 49 days. This should  blast me past the 295 barrier that I have never been able to break.
12 hour shifts have let up a bit. Also done making wood till this winter. Good workout, but it was costing me bodyweight. The scale should respond accordingly now.

Despite a poor nights sleep, leg workout was good today. Added weight to my squat and leg press. Another 12 hour shift ahead of me today. It will go by faster knowing I have a good workout behind me. Home scale says 187, gym scale says 192. Bathroom scales are not know for accuracy.

12 hr shifts eatin me up

Been working a lot of overtime lately. Only weighed in at 187 this morning. Do not have the time to spend at the gym like I would like. I think its affecting my weight. On the bright side, I am still getting stronger. At least I will have the strength to train the way I want when I do get there regularly again.
So far, the bench press program feels like it is going well. Looking forward to the first failure test to see where I am at.
