My diet…mostly for my own records…hence the rambling.

February 16, 2009

This is for losing weight and maintaining muscle…not necessarily to build muscle.

Basically what I have been doing is lifting weights 2 times a week. I try for 3 but something always comes up. I haven’t been able to do cardio or work my legs because I hurt me knee. So it’s pretty much been my diet. I basically eat fish, almonds, tomato’s, carrots, broccoli, fresh spinach, salmon, tuna fish, cow, grapefruit, bananas, apples, oranges, berries, chicken, turkey, avocado’s, cucumber’s, bell peppers, egg’s, asparagus, whey protein, and water. If I am really craving something that isn’t that great for me like Chinese food I’ll eat a smaller portion and have it for breakfast so I have the whole day to burn it. I estimate that I’ve kept my calories down around 1800 or so. I try to make sure I have some protein 3X a day. For example I’ll have three eggs with spinach, bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, etc on it then later I’ll have a snack such as almonds and maybe some tomatoes or a carrot, then for lunch I would have salmon or tuna fish with cucumbers and maybe put in some flax seed and mustard. Then for a afternoon snack I’ll have an avocado…whenever I am really hungry those fill me up and I don’t feel hungry for 4 hours easy. Then for dinner I’ll have chicken and vegetables. When I work out I always have a protein shake after. OR sometimes for breakfast or a snack I’ll have a protein shake mixed with fruit…tastes like a dessert but it’s healthy. I pretty much break all that up into small meals throughout the day. I try not to have any carbs after 5:00 or at least DEFINITELY not after 7:00. As you can see I avoid legumes, dairy, grains, corny syrup, and pretty much drink water all day and maybe crystal light if I am craving sweets. I don’t follow all of this perfectly. I’ll still have a little dairy or a little grain sometimes. But, I try to avoid them when I can. Lately, over the weekend I have the hardest time following my diet and I have ended up eating bad foods. But, then I’ll have a 24 hour food fast and that kind of helps me break even. Right now I am fasting because I didn’t eat very good last weekend. So, I haven’t really had a chance to do the “eat stop eat” diet very much. But, I have lost around 8lbs…without cardio or working out more than twice a week. I want to start working out more consistently and adding cardio. I also want to start doing 24 hour fasts 2 times a week. Then I’ll probably lose fat even faster. I’m not sure if I will always eat like this once I am where I want to be. But, it isn’t really that bad. Fruit and vegetables can be pretty good and I like meat. As far as supplements I started taking glucosamine and chondroitin for my joints, high quality fish oil, garlic, flax seeds, and a good multi vitamin.

Blog Entry

February 9, 2009

I think I may have pushed myself a little to hard. Mostly just my left knee. I never felt anthing happen while I was working out. I just woke up one morning and certain movements will cause it to ache a little bit and if I walk a lot it starts to ache more. As far as I can tell there isn’t any swelling and it doesn’t hurt REALLY bad..but, I can tell something isn’t right. Sometimes it aches on the inside and sometimes I think I feel it above my knee cap. I’m guessing it is from the squats and the running. I should have started lighter on the squats since I haven’t really done squats since highschool gym class. Hopefully it gets better soon. I am just going to stay away from working my legs till it feels better and then start REALLY slowly. Any tips or suggestions? Feel free to share.

interval training

January 30, 2009

I couldn’t find a place to put down the cardio I’m doing….so I decided to throw it on a blog.

I’ll have to admit…I’m not completely doing cardio just to burn extra calories and to increase my fitness level. It is because I want to kick my wifes trash. LOL, I know that may not sound good. BUT, we decided to sign up for a 5k that is in 3 months. I’m horrible at running and she was a runner in high school. She hasn’t ran for 3-4 years soooo MAYBE there is hope for me. Either way I’m going to give it my best shot. If I lose I’m doing the dishes and cleanig the kitchen for 3 months straight! Hahaha, that is some good motivation right there to not lose.

Today I did a brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternated 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. If anyone knows how to add running to the workout tracker let me know.

P.S. I’m finally starting to feel better from being sick and I’m going to hit the weights tomorrow.

Sick

January 25, 2009

I’ve noticed that whenever I start working out I get sick. Then I turn to comfort foods and screw my diet up. Then I wait forever to start up again. Unfortunately, MOST of this has happened again. BUT, this time I’m not going to wait forever to start up again. I’m ticked off this time that I’ve missed some workouts and I’m going to jump right back into it.

I have really enjoyed this site. There are so many motivating people and I love the workout tracker. I’m not sure if anyone will really read this. But, as I look back I want a record showing why I missed workouts and what I did about it.

New Year

January 10, 2009

On January 9th I started my new work out program. I’m just going to focus on sticking with it. I worked my back/biceps/forearms and I’m feeling it today.
