Since when is a v-bar only for women?

I’ve received a lot of dumb comments from men at the gym who are trying to be helpful, but yesterday I just had to laugh. I was doing seated rows with a wide bar when an older grey haired gentleman advised me, "you should be using this bar [v-bar in hand] because you don’t want to get big like a guy." He continues saying, "I once knew a woman….and she got really big…" I had to laugh b/c this comment made in all sincerity was by far the most absurd I’ve heard since working out at that gym (over the past 2 1/2 years). I wish getting bigger was that easy.

Another man at the gym earlier this summer said, "what are you trying to do, trying to get cut up like a guy?" After a few minutes I responded, "are you suggesting that I look like a guy? and What’s your problem…"  I want to know why am I being noticed all of the sudden and why do these men have the need to give their unsolicited opinion? They aren’t even in good shape (LOL).

I still love my run down gym and for the most part can get in and out without any problems.

People shouldn’t comment when they have no idea what they are talking about, I go to the gym to train and im sure thats why your there too, if you need someone’s advice im sure you would ask for it. I love my ipod at the gym so I can block people out when I need to focus. :)

Excuse me but you shouldn’t do squats you should do lunges! You are stronger than me and I’m a man..your making me look bad.LMAO!

I’m assuming these guys are probably intimated by your badassness. Keep training your heart out and doing what works for you. There is always that person in the gym who’s way to friendly with their training advice, and there always the out of shape ones.

I hate when men give me their unsolicited advice…its usually an older guy 50+ so I try to be polite but its so annoying!!! I WISH it was that easy to build muscle…Keep lifting like a man girl!

The manager at my works gym does that to me all the time. He’s very old school and insists on correcting all of my moves and tells me I shouldn’t lift as heavy as I do. Drives me crazy!

Ha, I get the 50+ men telling me what to do and they look terrible.

Like I’m really going to listen to a guy with a big ol’ belly and another who only comes in once a week because he doesn’t want to strain anything.

They have nothing better to do than mettle instead of taking up that free time to do crunches.

I wonder what the "science" is behind the V-Bar for women approach, LOL. You should have some fun and challenge the next idiot who decides to show off their knowledge!
