How do you Solicit a Spotter, help please?

Adding weight was easier than I thought. I’m not at the set goals, but adding 5 to 10 #’s per set this week was quite invigorating. I was able to do pull downs @ 100#’s (only 3), but I did them and finished the set with 90#’s. I felt as if I was going to lift off the chair and tried my best to brace myself with my feet. Shrugs I topped off @ 40#’s , but I’m not sure I can move heavier dumbbells off the rack w/o dropping them on my feet–I might try asking for help from one of the regular guys. I don’t want to seem like a whimp, but I do need assistance at this point. Anyone have tips on soliciting spotters?

My former trainer is coaching me from the sidelines. He suggested that I eat white rice & lean protein of choice right after weight training. He also told me to eat cottage cheese. White rice & cottage cheese are not my favorites, but after eating cold asparagus & tilapia, raw oats, etc. I can eat most anything, especially if this is what it takes to put on more muscle.

I’m off next week so I plan to train 4 days. Haven’t decided how I will split the days, but I’m sure legs will be early in the week b/c I want to go out dancing next Fri.:)

Hey JC!! I’m right there with you, this past week I’ve been pushing myself al lot, that means hevier weights, and I had to ask 3x for help. I usually look around and ask the person that I can tell knows what she/he is doing wait and see when they are on their rest time and aproche them "hey do you mind keeping an eye on me, I don’t wanna drop this weight?" People don’t mind, the guy that help me yesterday w/skullcrushers 60Lbs, was very happy to help, he said "is nice to see a girl working-out so hard. I don’t mind helping just let me know" Don’t be shy when it comes time for a spoter, it’s either that or get hurt.

Just go up to a guy and ask them to spot you, most guys will be delightled to help someone as beautiful as you, you’ll have no problems finding spotters, also, you’re quite strong for a female, males are quite surprised when a female is trying to get stronger and needs a spotter, most females just want to tone down. I can understand why your former trainer suggest white rice and protein, the white rice raises your sugar level faster, therefore it helps the lean protein get inside the muscle faster, but you don’t need white rice, anything that raises your sugar levels fast will work. It’s good that you’ll be working legs early in the week, besides the dancing in the weekend, it’s the most draining body part to train, so you should work it early in the week when your less tired. Good luck this year reaching your goals, i hoped this was of help….take care…German Ominetti

I find just politely asking to work best, doesn’t matter if it’s a guy or a girl for me but I don’t lift uber heavy weights. Most of the time they’re pretty amicable about it and sometimes (because they were equally shy as you) they’ll ask you to spot them in return. Another alternative is maybe find your own workout partner, don’t know if that is an option.
