Chest workout

Well today was chest day and for the 3rd straight week my training partner was MIA for chest, so who knows. Anyway, I decided to try something a little different today and work primarily upper chest only. I rotated my entore workout between db incline presses and db flyes. I decided to kick flat bench out for a little while as well as decline to see if that sparks a little growth/stregnth in my chest area.

Has anyone tried ditching bench for awhile like this? Does it make a difference from anyone’s point of view? I also got into a discussion with a guy I see regulalry at the gym regarding using the Smith machines over free weights for training. he swears by the Smith machines but I have always lifted with free weights pretty much. I guess both have there inherent pluses and minuses. I am thinking I may try some machine work a little more often to mix things up, but the bulk of my exercise will be free weights I think.

Just switching what training you do for any muscle group can shock it into new growth. If you’ve done a lot of bench press, it might be good for your pecs to do inclines and db flyes. Try it for a while. At worst, you’ll make the same progress you’ve been making; hopefully your pecs will explode to new size from the new training.

Sorry my internet quit on me for about a half hour—-was reading your post above and if you are only doing Incline for chest you may be missing the mid and lower part of your pec muscles….obviously any chest exercise will work the whole pec muscle somewhat but Incline is def going to hit higher and also use more shoulder—do you switch btwn dumbbells and the barbell? I think machines are a good switch but by using free weights it makes you have to use your other stabilizing muscles to keep control too. Machines are nice when eiher you want to have a heavy lifitng day and you have no spotter or when you are doing a higher rep max out type set and want to train more for endurace… soo..thats just my little opinion for the day. Hope you have a great week :)

If you are only doing incline, be sure to cut back on shoulder workouts cause you are going to be putting a hell of a lot of work on your front delts. Those are teeeeny tiny muscles. I lurve me some flat bench, makes me feel badass.
