Today’s workout

3 sets of leg extensions (warm up)

Squats (3×12) I went lighter today to focus on form since I am catching myself breaking form on this exercise.

Seated claf raises (3×12)

Leg curls (3×12)

Calf presses (3×12) on the leg press machine stayed at 900lbs today, wasn’t feeling strong enough to break that today.

Loaded squat plate press (3×12)

 Finished where I started with leg extensions (3×12)

 

My legs were toast after my last set of extensions.

The count down begins…

So I decided today that I am going to use my cousin’s upcoming wedding in August as a marker for my new training program. From today until then that gives me roughly 16 weeks to train to get myself into better shape. I have considered the fact that at some point i would liek to train for a competition hopefully, I think I will use this as a test run to see how I handle training for an event. I will post some pics so I can track my progress and hopefully look back by week 16 and not recognize myself as of today. We shall see…pics coming soon.

Back in the gym

Well I got myself back into the gym after my small bout with being sick. I can’t say I am 100% yet, but I am well enough to get back into the gym in my opinion. It is Monday so that means legs day. I was able to break my previous best on calf presses which shocked me from being so tired from being as sick as I was the past 2 days. Pushed out 10 solid reps at 945 lbs which shocked me. I gues getting over my mental block at 900 lbs was all it took to cruise past it. I tried for an even 1,000 lbs on the calf press, I was able to push it off the rack, but I couldn’t get a solid rep out of it so baby steps to that marker I suppose.

 Squats were suprisingly easy and I was able to go heavier than I have in the past which was awesome. Now granted I am a pretty lean guy at a hefty 170lbs (haha) so squatting 225 lbs (10 reps) seemed like a feat to me. Lunges were a bitch (as usual) but I know I can’t ignore them as much as they suck doing. I am just amazed at how strong I seemed to be after being sick like that…I completely expected to be struggling a little on my sets today…hey I am not complaining trust me.

I hate being sick…

Well today I feel like crap, came down with some kind of sore throat/sinus/head cold type thing that is kicking my ass here. As such that means I am out of the gym until it clears up. I hate being sick because it keeps me from keeping up on the gym. I was able to get in my arm workout on Friday so I guess I’ll take today and Sunday to rest up, hopefully I am good to go for legs on Monday. In the meantime I am drinking lots of fluid, eating lots of fruits, etc and cold medicines to try and get rid of this thing. Bleh…sick sucks…

Chest Day

Well, worked out chest today, it was a pretty good work out. Started off with some incline presses, flyes on the pec dec machine, some flat benches and finished off with some decline presses. Chest is by far my weakest group in my opinion. Tomorrow is back, for some reason back never gets me really stoked, but you have to do it…

New personal best

Well today I broke my long time goal on calf presses. Now that may sound like a lame goal, but I have been stuck on the same weight forever it seems. I use the leg press sled for calf presses using the lower declined lip to rasie the sled. My previous personal best was 12 reps of 865 lbs. For months I struggled to hit 900 lbs and today I actually pushed out 2 sets of  10 reps at 925 lbs.

 I don’t know if I have been psyching myself out all this time, but for some reason this time when I went for 900 lbs I couldn’t get over how easy it was to push them out. It is such an awesome feeling to hit a personal goal and feel that you have accomplished something for yourself. Now that I hit my goal it is time to get that new tattoo I told myself I would get when I hit my goal that I have wanted for so long, so it looks like this weekend I’ll be hitting up the tattoo shop :D . Next goal is to hit an even 1,000 lbs on claf presses…at least for legs. Upper body is all about hititng the chest area and making strides there.

 What a feeling, woo hoo!

SWFL Strong man competition

Well last weekend I volunteered at my gym to to help with the 1st annual SWFL (Southwest Florida) strong man invitational. And all I can say is that I had the time of my life doing it! We had about 30 entries from all over the country comes down for the meet. It was awesome to see some of the unbelievable feats of strength that these guys could handle. I am a pretty lean guy so strong man probably isn’t in my future personally, but I loved every second of volunteering to help out.

Among the events were the odd object carry which consisted of a lead filled fire hydrant, the farmers carry, the yoke carry, the viking press for reps, the keg lift and of course the truck pull. I will try and get some of the pictures and/or video from the event posted up here so people can see how awesome it was. Doing that competition really made me want to get involved with competing myself. I am going to be talking with a few of the people at my gym about figure competitions they have been in to see what it takes to compete with that. Like I said I am not going to be a strong man anytime soon, but I am hooked on wanting to compete on some level!
