I am finding out very quickly how much it sucks to get back into the gym routinely after slacking off for about a month or so. I started doing 2 a days every other day (AM cardio and PM lifting) and on the non 2 a day days PM lifting. My body hasn’t felt this sore in awhile, but psychologically I am totally amped up to be back into it. Did shoulders and tri’s today and I plan on doing some more cardio and maybe legs or bi’s tomorrow. In any event, it is a good pain so I am glad to be back on the horse here.

Hit the gym after work tonight and checked out the new 24 Hour Fitness down the road form me, it is waaay nice, very ritzy, but I think I will stick to the other 24 Hour Fitness that I go to since this new one is asking for 90 bucks to join (first and last months payment) even though I have an established membership from one of the other 24 Hour Fitness clubs and I paid for the upgraded membership where I can use any of the 24 Hour Fitness clubs in the are…. what gives?
Anyway, I am done with my little rant… hit up my biceps and tricepts tonight, it felt good, but I could tell it had been awhile. I also threw in some squats and calf presses just for fun. Squatting 315 was a little more difficult than I remember it so hopefully that comes back soon for me. Calf pressing 900lbs on the leg press sled wasn’t too bad so I was happy to see that the stregnth in my calves is still there. Anyway, tomorrow I plan on hitting up the gym again and doing a little cardio and maybe some ab work. It feels good to be back in the gym that is all I can say….

Well today was my first day (in a while) back in the gym. I went to the workout room here at my complex to get back into things here. There isn’t much to it, a bench , some free weights and a few machines, but man… just getting warmed back up there showed me how long I was out of the routine. I did a circuit work out (with what I had to work with) and I was totally depressed at how much I had to exert to just do that..oye.
I am really glad I am back in the gym, but the gym is certainley giving me a rude welcome back…I guess I deseerve that for walking away from it for as long as I did. Oh well… I have my 12 week goal (11/07/08) to transform myself into someone 180 degrees different than I am today physique wise. As soon as I got home, even before I showered (man I stink) all I could think about was posting here to make it official that I worked out and am back on the horse once again….

Well it officially has been forever since I checked in here. Tons going on since the last time I was on here. Met my girl friend that I am crazy in love with, moved to Colorado and getting started with my new life out here. In all of that time I have still been working out up until the middle of last month, but not really watching my diet very carefully. I logged on here and saw my old pics (not that they were anything great) and they made me realize how much I really want to get into better shape.
I joined 24 hour Fitness out here in Colorado so I have zero excuse not to get back into working out and back into shape, they are literally open all day and all night long. I need to get back on the wagon and get back onto my training. I think I, partly, became a little comfy with my girlfriend and laid off the working out because I felt I didn’t have to impress her like that. Man am I regretting letting myself go a little bit, I feel like poop compared to how I know I used to feel. It’s time to get back on track, get back on my training diet and train like there is no tomorrow.
I am giving myself 12 solid weeks to see a noticeable difference, so here we go….

I was at the Southern States NPC show in Ft Lauderdale,FL Friday night for the fitness and figure show. I had a few friends that were competing so I was there to see them and support them. This was the first competition show that I had ever been to…what an experience! The setting was awesome and seeing all the people and competitors there was an awesome feeling. There was a Saturday show for the bodybuilding portion of the competition but, unfortunately, my schedule didn’t allow for me to stay for that show, so I only saw the fitness show.
I could not get over how many competitors there were, it was unreal…there literally had to be close to a hundred people competing between all the classes. The only thing which I didn’t like was the fact that, for whatever reason, the judges did not do the pre-judging before the show. This meant that the show was VERY LONG…. it started at 7 PM and I was retarded tired by 1 AM as the show wasn’t over yet. I ended up leaving early because physically I couldn’t keep awake, I am usually in bed by like 10PM…I am such a loser, haha. I heard that the show didn’t end until like 2:15AM…that is crazy. Anyway, that one item aside it was an awesome show there. A good number of tables/booths were set up with samples, people to talk to, etc. Of course I stopped by the BB.com table and saw Ava Cowan there…she looks AMAZING in person…wow, I couldn’t get over seeing her there. I could have died a very, very happy man that night having talked to her and seen her . I also saw BB.com’s very own Tamar from http://www.planettamar.com competing. She also looked unbelievable, her long hours of training and dieting definitely paid off, she looked absolutely incredible as well. All of the ladies there looked phenomenal…. I have never been in 1 room before in my life with that many beautiful women at once. Every competitor there exemplified what long hours of training, dedication and discipline can do, it was amazing.
The women’s fitness routines (dance numbers) were incredible. There were some amazingly athletic women there that were throwing there bodies in the air and twisting in ways that would make me cringe, lol. The energy level they brought was awesome, you could really feel the crowd amp up and get behind them. Awesome work ladies!
Overall it was a really fun and interesting show, I loved the experience of seeing a show first hand and it really showed me what I need to strive for if I ever want to seriously make an attempt to compete myself. I have been doing alot of thinking about my training since the show and what I need to change in order to realistically compete one day. Like I said it was an awesome experience and I can’t wait for the Southern States show next year, I will definitley be there! Hopefully it is a little shorter .
Congrats to everyone who competed, I have the utmost respect for the sacrifices you had to make in order to train to get on that stage and compete.

I am going to the Southern States NPC show tomorrow in Ft Lauderdale, FL. to check out the competition. I am totally stoked to be going. This is the first fitness competition I will have ever been to. I know a few people competing so I am looking forward to seeing them do awesome there. Maybe this will give me the little kick in the ass to really seriously get in to training mode.
I will be taking pictures and shooting some video there so when I have a chance I will be putting that up on my blog. I can’t wait to check it all out and see the competition. I know that there are a few people from BB.com that will be there competing and I am totally looking forward to seeing them there also! Good luck to everyone that is competing!

It has been a little while since my last post. It is amazing how quickly work can consume and over take your life it seems. The past 2 weeks have been the longest of my life it feels like with work. Hopefully this is the end of a very long tunnel I have been going through.
Anyway, I have still been keeping up with my training which is probably the only thing that has kept me sane the past 2 weeks or so. Nothing too terribly notable training wise though this past Monday I did get a nice ego boost . I was doing legs and one of my exercises is walking lunges, which anyone who has done these knows how fun they are, but damn they work. I was doing my usual 3 sets 12 steps over 12 steps back (so basically 3×24). I decided to move up on my weights that I use for these and went with 120lbs on my shoulders. After my first set the gym owner walked over and said that was really impressive which made me feel pretty good. Sets 2 and 3 one of the trainers that works there came over and gave me motivation to fire off the last few steps on my sets and told me it was pretty impressive to see lunges like that with that kind of weight. Certainly not trying to toot my own horn, but it felt pretty nice to get a compliment or two.
I can’t wait till this coming Monday for legs again….those walking lunges are calling my name….

Well today was chest day, and my trianing partner finally showed up, finally…
Anyway, here is a quick rundown on the routine:
Incline DB presses: 12×50’s, 12×50’s, 12×50’s, 12×55’s, 12×60’s
Decline BB presses: 12×135, 10×145, 8×155, 6×175
DB Flyes: 12×30, 12×35, 12×40
Lying DB extensiions: 12×55, 12×65, 8×75, 6×80
Overall my chest felt pretty good after the workout. I think I’ll have some pretty good soreness by tomorrow. As I have always said, chest is my weakest muscle group so these totals probabyl look pretty pathetic, but I am hoping to gain enough stregnth to push past this point. If anyone sees something I am doing or not doing comments are certainley welcomed.
Thanks!

Well today was my leg workout, it flet pretty good and I am PRAYING for some DOMS so I know I kicked my ass today. Here is a quick rundown on the routine:
Walking Lunges: 3x 26 steps (55 lb dumbells)
Seated Calf rasies : 12×115, 12×135, 12×160
Leg Press Machine: 12×300, 12×390, 12×500
Calf presses (leg press machine): 12×720, 12×900, 12×945
I cycled squats out for a week or 2 just to mix things up, they’ll be back soon enough though! I was a little short on time today so I had to abbreviate my routine, next week I’ll get everything in I wanted to here.

Well today was chest day and for the 3rd straight week my training partner was MIA for chest, so who knows. Anyway, I decided to try something a little different today and work primarily upper chest only. I rotated my entore workout between db incline presses and db flyes. I decided to kick flat bench out for a little while as well as decline to see if that sparks a little growth/stregnth in my chest area.
Has anyone tried ditching bench for awhile like this? Does it make a difference from anyone’s point of view? I also got into a discussion with a guy I see regulalry at the gym regarding using the Smith machines over free weights for training. he swears by the Smith machines but I have always lifted with free weights pretty much. I guess both have there inherent pluses and minuses. I am thinking I may try some machine work a little more often to mix things up, but the bulk of my exercise will be free weights I think.
