For the good of “Natural”

Monday, October 13th, 2008

This is derived from a quote from the ABA Natural show in San Antonio Texas this past weekend ( October 11th). It stated the ABA is the ONLY natural organization in the WORLD that actually tests its athletes. I am highly disappointed at both the ABA organization and its listed representative for the show, Denny Kakos, =”Popup.composeWindow(’pcompose.php?sendto=n
aturalABA@aol.com’); return false;” href=”mailto:naturalABA@aol.com” mce_href=”mailto:naturalABA@aol.com”>naturalABA@aol.com. First, that is a lie. Second, such an egregious statement goes against both what natural athletes stand for and this statement discredits the entire movement for all natural athletes.
As a professional natural bodybuilder, I take statements like this personally as I already have to battle challenges from individuals on a daily basis… Now from our own…it’s very discouraging. I have competed in the NGA, Musclemania, FAME and tested IFBB international shows…I have been tested at least twice a year for the past 13 plus years by polygraph, urinalysis and even blood tests. In shows I personally have promoted, I have tested and busted athletes.

As a competitor, I cannot be an active competitor in the about 30 different organizations in just the USA, there are too many…I chose FAME as my home. So, my hope is that each of you that read this message as many natural organizations as you can, demanding they work together for the good of the cause or keep their mouth closed…or even better yet, close their doors for good.

We all work too hard to have our own people spread lies, rumors and discredit what we devote our lives to. Thank you all for your time reading this important matter.

Controversial, but needs to be out there.

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Okay, this is a controversial issue, but I HAVE TO get my two cents in…

After watching yet another episode of the Biggest Loser…I thought to myself again…Why do these morbidly obese people continue to get rewarded for doing what they are supposed to do in the first place?

Why not start rewarding the people who never let themselves get to that point, who make the sacrifices their entire life, stay fit and healthy, and never give into gordging themselves time after time?

I feel pretty strong that we are all in need for a time of "Accountability of Self". As antiquated as it is, even the food pyramid will keep you healthy and not obese…we all know at every income level and culture that fried foods are not good for you, too much candy and sweets are BAD…

So, what’s it gonna take for there to be a needed shift towards rewarding the people who take care of themselves, and away from rewarding those who live a life of gluttony, lack of self respect and then look to the "community" to solve their issue brought on by their own doing?

Whew…that feels better!

9 Weeks Out From the FAME N. American Champ.!!!

Monday, September 1st, 2008

I’m 9 weeks out now from FAME’s N. American Championships at the Miami Conference Center. After placing 2nd at their Worlds in June…I am certainly on the hunt for the win!
So, the big question…what am I going to change this time around…well, I will load a little more the two days before the show as I looked better Sunday midday than on stage Saturday. And…I have been using Vassive-NO since 12 weeks out as well as Nitro Core 24 at bed time as I found some success with a similar “made-at-home” formula last time around.
Since one of the biggest problems for most of us dieting is the drop in energy and focus the weeks leading up to the contest, I am hoping Vassive-NO will help.

I will be working a little more on my routine as well…so any creative thoughts on a theme are welcome!!

The IFBB Official Drug Policy…I did the research for you guys…

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

Simply out of curiosity I went to the home page of the IFBB (http://www.ifbb.com) to see what their drug policy or stance is.  To my surprise, I found out that they have a very harsh anti-doping policy (http://www.ifbb.com/DopingControl/IFBBAntiDopingRules_2006Edition.pdf) that is that of WADA, the organization that oversees the testing policies for the Olympics!  Their site with a list of prohibited substances is at http://www.wada-ama.org/en/.  If the IFBB shares the same policy and rules…that would mean the IFBB Athletes cannot even have 600 mg of caffeine in their system…to say the least…WOW!
Obviously, the IFBB does not follow this policy…at all!  Actually, I put out the challenge to any of the Olympia competitors to allow an independent party…me, to test them and post the results.  All on my expense, and if I am wrong in that they are using steroids, GH or any other prohibited substance listed in the WADA prohibited substance list…I will be the goat’s ass…
Oh…and here is the direct page that lists their stance on this policy http://www.ifbb.com/page.php?id=23
Cheers!

59 pounds in 6 months…Come on!!

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

I usually do not find myself reading the “Big Name” muscle mags, as they tend to repeat and regurgitate a lot of nonsense.  I was, however, recently given a copy of one of these magazines by an airline employee.  One of the headlines was how one of the IFBB guys gained 59 pounds of muscle in 6 months…well, my friends, I’m confused and need help here!

Okay, for this to happen, one would need to consume AND assimilate an EXCESS of 212,400 calories over the 6 months…that’s about 35,400 cal a month, about 8,850 cal a week, or about 1,264 a day.  I am an exercise physiologist by trade and have a HEAVY load of human physiology and nutrition in my background.  I find it unbelievable that any well trained human could assimilate and excess of 1,264 calories in one day…but, let’s look at this a little closer.  There is a sample diet included!

To save space, I condensed it to this…about 262 grams of protein, 318 grams of carbs and about 57 grams of fat totaling about 3,000 total calories a day.  The athlete with the claims is a mid 30’s guy weighing about 250 pounds.  This guy’s BMR is going to be close to 2,500 calories a day…how is a 500 calorie difference going to pack those pounds on???

My conclusion is that he didn’t gain the weight, the magazine is further confusing the poor readers looking to them for advice and the athlete is on a goooooood dose of assistance (chemically) to have achieved his physical results.  As you all can probably tell…I am a lifelong drug free bodybuilder…seriously, no drinking and no drugs of ANY kind.  I can say honestly, if you eat, train and rest correctly, you can expect an average of a pound a month of quality gains until you reach your own genetic potential.  Be proud of what you accomplish without the help from the Super “S” supplements.  You will certainly be thankful in the end!

Cheers!

2008 FAME World Championships, Toronto, Canada

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

2008 FAME World Championships, Toronto, Canada (see new posted pictures in my BodySpace!!)

2nd place in the Professional Division wasn’t too bad  ;)

Both Kai and I had a wonderful and amazing trip to the Great White North!  It was the first trip ever that everything went wonderfully and as planned.  Every reservation went smooth, every person we came in contact with was helpful, and the weather was PERFECT!

This was my first professional show with FAME and Jeff and Mindy exceeded all my expectations!  Except for one small thing…the registration was a little longer than I had planned for.  But, it allowed for time to meet some new people, see some old acquaintances and actually unwind a little.

In regards to my contest prep, I discovered, with a little help from a colleague in Houston, that using rice cakes in the loading phase was causing me to flatten-out and actually over dehydrate.  We tried a couple new things and it worked like a charm!  There were only two areas I feel I could have done “better” in hind-sight.  The first was to have held my poses longer.  An hour of mandatory poses and quarter-turns was BRUTAL!  The second was that I wish I had researched what they looked for in their posing during the pre-judging.  Coming from another organization, I became accustomed to modifying some of the mandatory poses…which I think I was scored down for in this contest.  With fixing those two things…and simply improving from show to show…I don’t see how they will be able to deny my presence in the future!

Coming in second to Derrick Brown felt great!  I have competed with him in the past and when I found out he was in this contest, I chose to do a Terminator 2 theme…he used a Terminator theme in our last contest.  I thought it would add a little irony between the two of us.  The only unfortunate part was that I didn’t get to do my “planned” routine since I was still cramping from the hour of pre-judging.

So, my congrats go out to Derrick and to Jeff and Mindy for an amazing show!  I am sure there are many more great things to come with FAME!!!

Time to start prepping for the North American Championships this October 31st and November 1st in Miami!!  See you all there.
