Great First Show

So it’s Wed. meaning my first show, is over and done with. The smoke has cleared, and it was amazing. For my first show, I could not have asked for anything more. I placed 1st in teen, 2nd in debut and 1st in open men tall.

The morning of the show, I was a wreck. I knew I was looking pretty good as far as conditioning went, but my vascularity wasn’t really where it should have been. I rarely get nervous, but this morning was an exception to that. My dad and I drove to the show at 9am. Upon arriving I took the poly and looked at my competitors. I didn’t focus much on anybody else besides myself, I didn’t want to psych myself out.

I was entered in the teen, debut and open divisions. The debut division and teen division were back to back, so that took a lot of energy out of me. However, it gave me time to re-group and be ready for the open class. I was surprised at how fast the mandatory poses went by, during the debut and teen divisions. I almost wished it had lasted longer, if it wasn’t for my left lat, that was getting tight and sore.

Between the open class I kinda just relaxed, stretched out my left and had a bite of power bar and a sip of water. I decided not to eat anything before the show. I had eaten 2 meals earlier in the morning, but I didn’t eat again b/c I was afraid of becoming bloated. As I looked around, I saw other competitors eating fish, chicken, sweet potatoes, damn it all looked so good! It was cool though, I felt nice and tight in the midsection, so my plan was working. The only thing I would do differently entering my next show,( July 11th) would be to snack on brown rice cakes, for a quick carb to help fill me up mentally and physically.

The open class went by very fast as well, but we had a couple more poses to execute than we did in the other divisions, as to be expected. I thought overall I did my best and was proud of my posing. I knew it wasn’t perfect, but luckily the judges as well as others, gave me advice on what to do in the future, boy was I glad for that. When I looked back on the video I had, I realized that the advice I got was dead on. The biggest thing I did wrong, was that I had my hands open, covering my upper thighs and also making my arms and shoulders not as tight. Another thing was that I had my shoulders  rolled to far forward, causing my lats to look small and my neck to look strained. The only other thing I noticed, was that I didn’t hold my poses hard enough, in fear of shaking. I now realize that I can hold these poses much harder, look much better, without shaking. I’m ready to make these changes for next weeks contest.

When the places were ready to be called, I could of surprisingly cared less. I had done my best and that’s all I wanted. I was on cloud nine already, besides hearing my placings. When I was placed 2nd I wasn’t to surprised, the guy who beat me was def. more shredded in the front. I got called 1st in teen, that was great b/c that was my goal entering the contest. Then when I received 1st for open tall, I thought it was a mistake. I really didn’t see that happening, but hey I’ll take it :) I walked out on stage with the biggest smile and waved to my family. I’d say that after that, the muscles that hurt the most were my cheeks, after smiling so much lol.

Overall, I had a great time. I accomplished everything I wanted to and I never had an ooo **** moment. I’m def. hit with the bug of competing now and I can’t wait for my show on July 11th. I ate everything known to man after my show and planned to get back on my diet the next day, but take the day off from training. I did that, but on Monday I had the biggest craving, so I ate about 3 jars of peanut butter, not good. Right now it’s Thursday and my diet has been spot on. I’m 9 days out from my next contest, so I know everything has to be spot on.

There’s a lot more I could talk about, but I’ll cut myself off here. I’m training harder and smarter than ever for my next contest and I can hardly wait. I’ll be sure to write again when I’m a few days out. Till then…..
