July 1, 2009
So it’s Wed. meaning my first show, is over and done with. The smoke has cleared, and it was amazing. For my first show, I could not have asked for anything more. I placed 1st in teen, 2nd in debut and 1st in open men tall.
The morning of the show, I was a wreck. I knew I was looking pretty good as far as conditioning went, but my vascularity wasn’t really where it should have been. I rarely get nervous, but this morning was an exception to that. My dad and I drove to the show at 9am. Upon arriving I took the poly and looked at my competitors. I didn’t focus much on anybody else besides myself, I didn’t want to psych myself out.
I was entered in the teen, debut and open divisions. The debut division and teen division were back to back, so that took a lot of energy out of me. However, it gave me time to re-group and be ready for the open class. I was surprised at how fast the mandatory poses went by, during the debut and teen divisions. I almost wished it had lasted longer, if it wasn’t for my left lat, that was getting tight and sore.
Between the open class I kinda just relaxed, stretched out my left and had a bite of power bar and a sip of water. I decided not to eat anything before the show. I had eaten 2 meals earlier in the morning, but I didn’t eat again b/c I was afraid of becoming bloated. As I looked around, I saw other competitors eating fish, chicken, sweet potatoes, damn it all looked so good! It was cool though, I felt nice and tight in the midsection, so my plan was working. The only thing I would do differently entering my next show,( July 11th) would be to snack on brown rice cakes, for a quick carb to help fill me up mentally and physically.
The open class went by very fast as well, but we had a couple more poses to execute than we did in the other divisions, as to be expected. I thought overall I did my best and was proud of my posing. I knew it wasn’t perfect, but luckily the judges as well as others, gave me advice on what to do in the future, boy was I glad for that. When I looked back on the video I had, I realized that the advice I got was dead on. The biggest thing I did wrong, was that I had my hands open, covering my upper thighs and also making my arms and shoulders not as tight. Another thing was that I had my shoulders rolled to far forward, causing my lats to look small and my neck to look strained. The only other thing I noticed, was that I didn’t hold my poses hard enough, in fear of shaking. I now realize that I can hold these poses much harder, look much better, without shaking. I’m ready to make these changes for next weeks contest.
When the places were ready to be called, I could of surprisingly cared less. I had done my best and that’s all I wanted. I was on cloud nine already, besides hearing my placings. When I was placed 2nd I wasn’t to surprised, the guy who beat me was def. more shredded in the front. I got called 1st in teen, that was great b/c that was my goal entering the contest. Then when I received 1st for open tall, I thought it was a mistake. I really didn’t see that happening, but hey I’ll take it I walked out on stage with the biggest smile and waved to my family. I’d say that after that, the muscles that hurt the most were my cheeks, after smiling so much lol.
Overall, I had a great time. I accomplished everything I wanted to and I never had an ooo **** moment. I’m def. hit with the bug of competing now and I can’t wait for my show on July 11th. I ate everything known to man after my show and planned to get back on my diet the next day, but take the day off from training. I did that, but on Monday I had the biggest craving, so I ate about 3 jars of peanut butter, not good. Right now it’s Thursday and my diet has been spot on. I’m 9 days out from my next contest, so I know everything has to be spot on.
There’s a lot more I could talk about, but I’ll cut myself off here. I’m training harder and smarter than ever for my next contest and I can hardly wait. I’ll be sure to write again when I’m a few days out. Till then…..

Ok, I’m finally a week out and surprisingly, not very nervous. Everybody is saying to write down everything I’m doing and be perfect about every little thing. Guess what though, it’s impossible to be perfect. I’ll try to be as close to perfection as possible, but if I happen to train up until the last day, or not count sodium, then ooo well. I mean, I’ll do as much as I can without going insane. It’s the first time going on stage for me, so I guess a learning experience is what I need most right now. If my plan doesn’t work, then I guess next time, I’ll know what to correct.
The training is going well and the diet is alright, it’s just the posing that’s giving me nightmares. I have the mandatory poses all settled out, it’s my routine that I’m worried about. I really want to have it nailed, so I don’t look stupid on stage. So that doesn’t happen, I’ll pose for 45min a day now at night, focusing on staying in tune, with my routine.
My diet has been all chicken and fiborous carbs for the past week( with the occasional tuna from a can, for meal #1 a.k.a higher sodium). For the next 3 days I’ll carb up, with some brown rice and enzekiel bread then carb back down for Sat.’s show. To make this work I’ll lower my portions of chicken from 12oz to 8oz, to make sure the calories stay the same when loading carbs. My diet has been a roller coaster up until now, so I’m hoping it ends well. Like they say it’s not how well you start, but how you finish. So, as of right now I’m weighing in at…. actually I don’t know what my bf is or weight, haven’t checked in a month, guess I’ll wait and see! If I had to guess I’m at around 180ish pounds, at 5ish bf…or so I think idk.
Also, sorry everything I say is at random times and not in order when I write these things. It’s always in a hurry, so I write it as it comes to me. I find it enjoyable though, so hopefully I’ll find more time in the future to be more precise and detailed.
Till next time……

Right now, I’m 12 days out from my first show. I’m getting really anxious, to say the least. I feel ready, I just want to go and compete already. I still have 12 days to sharpen up though, so I’ll take it.
The only thing that’s changed in preperation right now, is the amount of cardio I’m doing and my diet. Cardio is 40 min. after every workout. My workouts are still going strong, I’m finding myself getting weaker, but I know it doesn’t matter how much you can lift, but how much it looks like you can lift! My diet is zero carbs of grains and such, right now. At 2 weeks out I’m eating just lean proteins and vegetables at every meal b/c they are my only source of carbs right now. My energy is taking a beating for it, I just hope it gives me that peeled to the bone look! Legs and abs are the only thing I’m worried about right now. Hopefully one more week and they’ll be spot on.
I just shaved and am using the new look to perfect my posing routine. I’m not doing any fancy routine, just hitting 7 poses within my 63 second routine. If it all goes as plannned, it’s going to be very fun to watch. I find myself not being able to wait to pose at night, where before I didn’t even want to pose. I guess the closer the competition gets, the more seriously I’m taking it. It’s just more of a realiti and the reality of losing dosn’t sit well with me. Till next week…..

As of tomorrow, I’ll be 3 weeks out from my 1st show. Right now, I’m just trying to stay as close to my diet as possible. Basically, if I can get 4 complete meals in a day, consisting of around 10oz of lean protein with 2-4oz complex carbs, and a couple protein shakes thrown in, with Ezekiel bread, I’m happy. It’s all about consistency and that’s exactly what I’m trying to do. Late night binging raids are gone!
My training right now, at 3 weeks out, has lightened up, quit a bit. I’m focusing more on drop sets and less weight, really trying to achieve a maximum pump, in the muscle I’m training. It’s all about hitting the muscle hard and fast, with good form. The other day, I was performing Kai’s between the leg dead lifts and I felt my knee pop. I was using to much weight( 245lbs for 12 reps) and I realized that at 3 weeks out, I needed to decrease the weight. I’m basically training 6 days a week, followed by 35 min. of cardio. I just have to keep as much size as possible, while trying to get my waist nice and tight.
My posing is a different story. I’m still working on my mandatory poses, but I’m finding it hard to even get three, 30 min sessions in a week.On top of that, I just got my posing song picked out, so I have to start practicing that.My posing song is "Snap, I’ve Got the Power"( a classic lol). I’m so close to the finish line, can’t give up now. Till next time.

Ok, finally my first post. I’ve been a member for a couple years now, to Bodyspace, and I’ve been meaning to use it more. I want to start by saying, it’s great to see how much Bodyspace has grown over the years and how many people are using it to their advantage. It’s truly great to see something like this.
Currently I have been training as a bodybuilder for 2 years now. I have been weightlifting for 6 years, but it wasn’t until the last 2, that I really started taking my diet and training more opt towrards bodybuilding. I haven’t done any shows, but I am currently getting ready for my first show in June, on the 27th. I will be competing with the OCB, since they seem to have the most competitions in my area( I’m from Rhode Island). I’m really excited, I mean really. I was going to compete last year, but I had other matters to attend to. I’m still 17 though and a junior in high school, so I’ve got time.
Right now I’m 3 weeks out from my show and I’m weighing in at 193lbs, at 6ish bodyfat. I’m 6′1 though, so I’m not their size wise, but hey who is. I’m trying my best with the dieting, but right now, I’m just trying to do the best I can.
I’m going to keep posting randomly about how my dieting goes, training and other random things like that, so keep note.
