Bodybuilding & Me
Hi friends, Thanks for taking the time to read my blogs. I have decided to write a bit on me, and my favorite hobby bodybuilding and how i came to love it. here goes… When i was in Kindergarten I used to be a cute kid or so my parents and loved ones say with a healthy and fit body. Once i got to the age of 10 i started to real feel the love of my parents, especially my mom and would love to eat. My mom is a good cook so i use to pig out and food made me happy. And in two years, (12), I was well over 220lbs while being only around 5ft tall. So yeah, I was a really fat kid. We used to get vacations three times during the course of a school year and each vacation lasted for about one month and this time i would eat and this would be my hobby. I didnt think i was that fat and thought food made me happy and i could go on enjoying life as long as I ate. My parents didnt want to hurt me as well, so they too brought me all kinds of goodies to keep me happy. Then once after vacations had finished I came to school and heard some of my friends making fun of me behind my back. One guy said something like look man.. that guy looks like he’s pregnant now. That really hurt. This was the turning point for me. I came home and realized i wasnt gonna eat like that any more and i was gonna start doing some exercises but i didnt know wat to do. So i started putting music in my room and started dancing. Hoping the fat would burn off. I started to become ashamed of the way i looked and had become more sensitive to the comments people around me gave. The following week or so, one of my dads friends came over to our place with his son and I started talking with him. We got to the topic of health and he taught me how to do dips. Since my arms werent that strong he suggested that i rest my knees on the floor and do girl dips. Later, I progressed to normal dips. Then after my parents so i was interested in getting fit. My father said to me health is the most important thing to man and to make that my priority in life. Everything else should come after it. So I did. He also got me an exercise machine called the totalgym which came with an exercise guide. After reading that thoroughly i decided to do daily workouts on it and noticed changes in me and i was seen muscles. I was really happy.. and later got onto the internet to learn on more workout methods. Its through this I learnt of Bodybuilding. I came across a website with lots of information and a forum for me to ask questions and get more knowledgable. I would download sections of the website and read through it. I would try it out on the totalgym which was kind of a cable station and notice it work and i got results from it. Later I purchased a dumbell and worked out more. Within the course of two years I had brought down my weight with exercise and diet to 160lbs and was getting lots of favorable comments from my friends. I had brought my flabby arms from being a mere 13 inches to 14.5 of muscle. I decided to concentrate on my studies cos i was 15 and had my GCE Ordinary Level exams which is a big thing in Sri Lanka. After that i got some a break and decided to work out at the college gym. I met the main trainer there and was told to reinstate the physical culture club in the school and promote bodybuilding among my fellow friends. With the permission of the warden we got the club started. Within the first year of joining the college gym I managed to bench press 220lbs for reps. The trainer in the gym kept motivating me to get into bodybuilding and try out for competitions cos he could see me doing good things cos i was really keen on Bodybuilding and seening good results. I started to forcus on total body training. Another year passed and i was now goin to the gym three times a week and on the off days i would be doing abs at home and waiting impatiently for the next day to come so i can hit the weights again. After finishing my GCE advanced level examinations I moved out of school and joined another gym with more sophisticated equipment. I started going daily to the gym and made it my goal to enter a contest and trained hard with lots of heart. I increased my bodyweight to 175lbs and did compete for the Sri Lanka All Island Novices in 2004 and managed to get 5th place out of 200+ bodybuilders. Getting that certificate and standing on stage was the greatest achievement ever. Now my goal is to keep training hard and change my body from being that fat pregnant looking kid to a near perfect physique i can be really proud of. Naturally of course.
Remember friends, don’t ever let people bring you down with their negative comments. Use it to fire you up. If someone says ur fat. Dont hurt yourself by thinking.. Yes I am Fat. I cant help it. I am useless. That would be wrong to give in. Everything that happens to you is a chance to to make a choice. Choose wisely and make yourself better. God bless you and stay fit for life. I hope my words helped you get some motivation to make positive advancements in your life.
