Manscaping 101

December 6, 2009

If your gonna use your mustache and beard trimmer for another manscaping project remember this. First off my groomer has a slide type setting on it so you set how long or short you want you beard or mustache to be.

My girlfriend was looking at me the other day when suddenly she motions toward me with the classic pinching motion. You know the kind of motion that can only mean one thing. She has spotted a wild hair in my eyebrow. She reaches to yank it out and I quickly dodge this slight of hand trick as I have seen her do it before. Not wanting to have the frontal lobe of my brain pulled out through my eyebrow I venture downstairs to remedy the situation so she won’t have to. I whip my trusty Norelco out of the cabinet check the setting for length. I set it to 3 to dispose of my new Andy Rooney eyebrows that have come along with being 40. One swipe across should cure it right. Thats when it happened. As I began my motion across my right eyebrow I heard a clicking sound. There was nothing I could do. I had pressed down to hard, the damn thing slipped and presto. I look in the mirror and my fear was confirmed I now look like a surprised mime. I look in the sink and there lays my eyebrow. Crazy glue isn’t about to fix this. So now what do you do? I can’t walk around with one eyebrow. Off with the other. Ughhhhhhhh. I was going to the gym so how do I deal with this new look. Somewhere in the background I’m hearing Katy Perry singing " youre so gay and you don’t even like boys".

No worries I tie a dorag around my head so low I look like an extra from Pirates of the Carribean and off I go. I guess if there’s a lesson to be learned here it’s this. Don’t bare down so hard with the beard trimmer when manscaping outside the lines of normal use.

Does this happen to you?

One of my biggest problems that I have to work through is my schedule. I work generally 10-11 hours a day. On days I go to the gym it’s usually around 5:30 pm. I get up around 4:30 am to go to work. I get to the gym usually still energentic and ready to go. Then I workout for an 1-1/2 hours. Most nights I’m on such a workout high I then can’t get to sleep. Last night I got maybe 4 hours. Then the next day I’m wiped of course life doesn’t let you just stop because your tired. Now your over tired and still have trouble getting to sleep. Is it just me or does this happen to you too?

Does anyone have any secrets to success on finding a balance between rest and working out? If you do I’d like to hear all about it. Yes the NanoVapor I’m sure adds to it but don’t want to give it up as it really pumps me up….

So much for that not happening

I did what the dr. told me……Ughhhhh…. I can’t believe I just wrote that. But it’s all about the long term and not the short. I started thinking have I learned nothing from 15 years of wieght training. If I don’t listen to my body I’m going to wind up with a problem. So I backed off. I had been lifting like a maniac lately anyway. So along with this seemingly crazy lifting scedule also came one hell of a lot of strength gains. I put on some more size and I got a pain in my hand.

I really don’t think that whomever coined the phrase "no pain no gain" that this is what they had in mind. But I listened to my body as it was hitting me over the head with this hand problem. I went to the gym once this week. Thats the hardest thing to get past. However after a really slack week the swelling is going down and the pain is subsiding. I’ve never had a problem with my hand prior. I’m due for chest and tri’s and am going to give it a go today. But just wanted to pass this on to those who may have an ache or pain. Sometimes you have to listen to your body. It speaks to you everyday especially for those of us who push ourselves day in and day out. Rest can be just as important for your long term goals as a grueling workout.

Its always something!

If its not your leg then it’s your shoulder hurts. Right now I have developed a finger problem. Yes it’s the middle finger on my right hand. Yes I am right handed. I’d like to think this isn’t related to a lifetime of living in New Jersey and driving the roads here. I know what your thinking I don’t appear to be the bird flipping type. However much to my dismay the doctor said it appeared to be a repetitive motion injury.

Seriously he wanted to give me a shot of cortisone in my knunckle. OUCH no freakin way was my response or get the restraints out. He chose to give me some cream which is a total pain in the lower extremity to apply. 4x a day then it takes forever to dry. Of course here’s the standard answer from the orthopedic when they find out you lift wieghts. You need to give that a break for a while to give it a chance to heal. Well you know thats not happening.

I’m supposed to go back next Friday for a follow up. I’m not sure about doing this I know its shot time this time. I’m not going to slow down just because of a bump or bruise. I guess the long and short of it is it’s like my mom once told me. I quote " Growin old ain’t for sissy’s James Scott". Leave it to my redneck momma to offer words of wisdom so profound. In the end she’s right so suck it up and tough it out. Lift hard and lift heavy or go home thats my motto. Words I live by……I however did buy a pair of gloves.
