Jamie Eason Shares Her Personal Breast Cancer Story and Invites Others to Join Her in the Race for the Cure
Boise, ID - April 24, 2012 - One of the most inspirational women in the fitness industry, Jamie Eason, bravely shares her personal breast cancer story and encourages others to join her in the race for the cure. She is joined by Bodybuilding.com, the Internet's most-visited bodybuilding and fitness site and largest online retailer of nutritional supplements, for the second annual "Run With Jamie" event in an effort to raise money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer. Bodybuilding.com and Jamie invite their fans, friends and fellow supporters to join them on the "Run With Jamie" team as they participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Saturday May 12th, 2012 in Boise, Idaho.

"My personal experience with a breast cancer scare was life changing. I was extremely lucky to find my lump through early detection. Since then, I have drastically changed the way I eat and how I care for my body. There are typically three things that lead to disease: poor genetics, environmental issues or an unhealthy lifestyle. There is really only one of those that you can control, so my message is to be proactive and take care of your body. For those who unfortunately fall ill, organizations like Race for the Cure not only offer education and medical support but a community of people ready to fight your battles with you every step of the way," shares Jamie.
Participants have until April 30th to register for the "Run With Jamie" team. Every team member will receive a complimentary, one-of-a-kind, "Run With Jamie" t-shirt and the opportunity to race with Jamie Eason. Plus, Bodybuilding.com will be bringing back the TEAM Bodybuilding.com tutu crew (imagine male models in tiny pink tutus) if they reach their fundraising goal of $10,000.
For those who can't make the trip to Boise to participate, they can still help by donating in honor of "Run With Jamie" at Komen.org. Bodybuilding.com is also auctioning off four exclusive "Run With Jamie" shirts personally autographed by Jamie Eason on Ebay with full proceeds going to the cause.

The money raised will help provide free mammograms; medical treatment for qualified breast cancer patients who cannot afford care; support services including support groups, assistance with finding financial resources, prescription refills and transportation to medical appointments; education about the warning signs of breast cancer, methods of early detection and the latest treatment options; and cutting edge research to help find a cure for breast cancer.

Why did you decide to begin training and exercising?
People decide to jump into the weight room for many reasons, to get in shape, to work off stress, to build muscle, loose weight or just to be social. For me, I needed a goal something to focus on. I needed that 1 hour a day I could focus on nothing but myself.
I had carelessly gained so much weight during my first pregnancy. I was afraid of being one of the moms who would carry around the baby weight for the rest of her life and blame all the extra pounds on my son even after he reached middle school. I didn't want to use that as an excuse to let myself go. I never wanted to be a mom who wore the cheesy baggy Christmas sweater just to cover up a body I felt insecure in. I wanted to be a mom and still have my body I wanted to be in control of my eating and exercising and not let food and excuses control me.
From there I found a love for fitness, and as both of my sons grow I've began teaching them at a very young age the basic principles of eating a balanced meal, being active and loving life. It's crucial that we teach our children the importance of eating healthy its a gift that forever gives back.

What are your work related goals for the future?
Oh man, I have a lot actually, I have so many things I wish to accomplishes. I've recently started writing columns for a few magazines, MMA UNCAGED, UNO MAGAZINE. I've had a blast doing that, especially since I'm able to use my own creativity to write about any fitness related topics I choose. I've recently became an ATHLETE for BODYBUILDING.COM and that is an incredible accomplishment. I always looked up to everyone at Bodybuilding.com what they stood for and the caliber they held to everyone else in the fitness industry, so being a part of their family is a great feeling and I really want to continue to build a great relationship with them. Building both the names Ashley Horner and Bodybuilding.com. Everything else I just wish to excel at Modeling, being an Athlete, a Figure Competitor and a Mom.
What is in your experience the most effective routine?
I love HITT sessions or anything that's quick circuit style training. People need to realize that you CAN get into the gym and out in a short amount of time, just get in get it done and get out. I love incorporating sprints into any of my workouts burpees explosive movements and more.
What is your current routine?

What is your diet and supplementation like?
When I'm not prepping for a show I follow the Paleo Diet pretty strictly.
Breakfast: 2 egg whites 1 whole egg Apple or berries.
Snack: Hemp Protein, I add almond milk, peanut butter & 1/2 banana with honey.
Lunch: Chicken Breast with grilled veggies
Snack: Hard boiled eggs with raw almonds
Dinner: Fish, Bison or Ground Turkey with any veggies that I want
I drink up to or more than a gallon of water a day.
I take Fish Oil, Multi Vitamin, Biotin
Supplements: Postworkout Recovery R3 by Cellucor and pre-workout of just for energy I love ON/ABB AMINO ENERGY.
What is one of your biggest train mistakes that you have made and how would you have done it differently?
As much as my body needs a break I find that to be the biggest mistake that I have made and still make. It's hard for me to set still. My daily activities include swimming in the ocean, running, hiking, CrossFitting, Soccer Games, Crew, Softball and much more. Sometimes my body finally says ENOUGH and I'll sleep for 11-12 hours solid. So I'm trying to do better about giving myself a break and more balanced sleep schedule.

What is your top tip for general fitness?
When you first start out trying to get fit or pushing towards a new goal you may not love it, like it, or even want anything to do with fitness, but give it time. You must remember its a life style. Find a activity that you love that makes you active and peruse that. Get friends get a support group and make it fun.

April 2012
How did you get started with bodybuilding?
I've looked up to, and admired people with muscles my whole life. I always wanted to be big and strong for as long as I can remember. I started working out as a freshman in highschool, but things most definitely didn't start off easy for me. I had to work hard for results and it took me a long time to develop a routine and get to know my body and what worked and what didn't. Through my 20's I really worked hard and was able to add size and I was very strong, but I only had basic knowledge when it came to dieting.

Finally after my 30th birthday a friend of mine talked me into doing a show. I was lost and didn't know where to start, so I talked to a good friend of mine, Ned Sacipovic, and asked him if I could be ready for a show, and if he would take me on and train me. He said I could be ready and agreed to help me, so we got started. I did my first show that March and had the time of my life. I placed 3rd out of 12 guys and then competed two weeks later at a different show and won my weight class. After that I was hooked.
How did that first workout develop into what has become such a large aspect of your career?
I did some weight training in the 8th grade and remember being good at dead lifting, but that was it. The next taste of working out was as a freshman in high school. A friend of mine had a weight set and he asked me if I wanted to work out with him. We ended up bench pressing. I couldn't even do a 100 pounds! The bench press for someone in high school is almost a rite of passage. It defines where you fall in the social aspect of things in the world of working out, so of course I got a lot of crap for it. I decided that this wasn't something that was going to define me, so I started to read and really started working hard to improve.
That event happening early in my life gave me that spark to get started. It also showed me that with hard work and dedication you can overcome most anything and improve upon yourself.
I believed I could, I may not have known at the time how to get there, but I knew what I wanted and I was willing to go through anything to get it. I have done this my entire lifting and competitive career.
What do you value most about this lifestyle?
I would have to say the sense of safety first and foremost. It adds confidence to everything I do. I feel better about myself, I feel I can physically take on any task, and it has made me a stronger and better person inside and out. It has brought me to the highest peak yet humbled me and broke me down to nothing. This lifestyle is a part of who I am, and will always be who and what I want to be. I'm blessed to have achieved all that I have, but now I am even more blessed to be able to pass on my knowledge to others. I try to give back all that I can, but at the same time I continue to try to learn and grow myself and become a better me.
What was your proudest moment in your bodybuilding career?
The proudest moment in my bodybuilding career was taking 3rd place in my first show. It taught me so much about myself, and it brought out so many positive things in me that I didn't know existed. From there the moment that has surpassed that is seeing my clients and friends compete and do well…I couldn't be prouder of them.
Other accomplishments that are at the top of the list would be becoming a Bodybuilding.com athlete. That was a dream come true and I'm very blessed for the opportunity.
They are an amazing group of people and I love working with them. I feel that there is no limit to where our relationship can lead.
They are THE powerhouse in the fitness industry, and having them encourage you and be there for you makes you truly feel you can take on the world. So to everyone at Bodybuidling.com - THANK YOU.
I am also proud of becoming a Force Factor sponsored athlete and Team Leader. They make the best supplements on the market and they give me the ability to contribute to the team and are open to my ideas and stand behind me in all that I do. After working with them I wouldn't even consider working with another company nor take a different product line, they are that good!
My next two proudest moments are being a P28 Bread sponsored athlete and a Nuts 'N More sponsored Athlete. P28 makes the best healthy and high protein bread on the market. They are awesome to work with and they really make you feel like you are a part of the team. Nuts 'N More, well what competitor doesn't love peanut butter?! They make the best peanut and almond butter on the market. They also are a wonderful team and group of people and just like everyone else I work with, they make me feel welcome and appreciated and a part of the team.
I am truly blessed for these accomplishments and there are so many people in my life that without them, I wouldn't be where I am at today with these moments. So thank you to all of my friends and family for all of your support over the years, it is truly appreciated.
Which principals guide your diet?
It all depends on where I am in the year. If I am getting ready for a show, I am VERY strict and won't come off of my diet for anything. I have tried everything from depletion diets, carb cycling, etc. I don't count calories, but count my carbs and protein, and keep sugar almost nonexistent. I take in about 50 grams of protein per meal and my carbs usually never go over 250 on my highest day and can go down to around 30-40 grams. I don’t count the carbs in my veggies; I consider them "fillers".
Any supplements that you think are worth the money?
There are a lot of products on the market, and some great ones, but for myself I recommend Force Factor supplements, their entire line is GREAT! They are also priced right and offer a lot of knowledge/science that backs up what they sell. If I were to recommend any other company I would recommend looking at and reading the reviews on Bodybuilding.com and go through them for your nutritional needs. You can also purchase Force Factor through Bodybuidling.com, so you get the best of both worlds.
What is your primary source of motivation?
My primary source of motivation in all honesty is my fear of failure. I had this instilled in me at a very young age and it has stuck with me ever since. I can accept loss, but I fear to fail. I feel I will let people down and let myself down. I know that’s probably not the best way to look at things, but it ignites a fire in me that motivates me and pushes me far beyond anything I could do without it.
I look at and read a lot of positive quotes and literature, study people with drive and ambition, and try and better myself through their example.
I also feed off of the people who say I can't do something; I'll do almost anything to prove those people wrong.
I also look to my family and friends for strength; they are always there for me and a great source of motivation.

Any advice for those who haven’t seen the results they want, and may be discouraged?
You need to first of all be OK with yourself at whatever you are involved in or what level you are at in anything you are doing "workout routine, diet, etc.". When you are OK with yourself and love yourself, you will make more of a commitment to the betterment of you. You also won't get discouraged when things don't go exactly how you want them to. You will have the strength to carry on and continue to try to achieve the results you are striving for.
Everything takes time; it took time to put on the weight so it will take time to take it off. Set some realistic goals and then set a big goal at the end. Enjoy each incremental goal that you have achieved on the way to your big goal and celebrate those victories on the way to a better you. If you are having a hard time with the plan you are on, take a step back and reevaluate what you are doing and make sure the plan is right for you.
Use the resources you have such as Bodybuidling.com and educate yourself. Make sure you are doing a routine that is right for you and you have a good diet plan in place too, nutrition is 80% of the equation. If that doesn't work, consider hiring a trainer.
Surround yourself with positive people and people that help you along the way. Negative people will just bring you down and make it that much harder for you to achieve your goals. The people that bring you down are afraid of change, and feel that your positive attitude and hard work somehow makes them have to make those changes too, which scares people, so they will become your worst critics. Rise above that and work on you, you are the best investment you can make.

Meal Frequency - What's Enough?
April 2, 2012
Meal Frequency is based on metabolism. Metabolism is a complex idea to understand with all the science behind it. From the aspects of cellular respiration, ATP production, electron transport chain, glycolysis, Kreb's cycle, etc. You have to think of it as your metabolism being a camp fire, and the food you ingest being the wood needed for the fire to burn. As you feed your body you are adding wood to your fire. When you add wood to a fire, the fire grows and burns hotter, and if you keep adding wood to this fire periodically, it will take longer to burn out.

This illustrates that the more frequent you eat, the more active your metabolism becomes. Now before you start eating everything in your house and have 10 huge meals per day, you need to also think about calories and relate your caloric intake amount to the amount of wood that can be used. For instance, you have a specific amount of calories needed per day for maintenance, fat loss, and/or weight gain. So that specific number is the amount of wood that can be used for each day. If you use up all of your wood too quickly you will eventually need more wood to keep the fire burning which will mean more calories added to your day. If you don't use all of your wood, your fire will not burn at its full potential or may even eventually burn out. Now you need to take into consideration that each day will be broken down into around 6 to 8 meals (this depends on what time you choose to throw yourself out of bed in the morning). From these 6 to 8 meals, or times to put wood into your fire, you need to spread out the amount of wood used each time so you will be able to feed your fire 6 to 8 times without running out of/or not using all of your wood. For example, if your caloric intake is 3000 calories per day then that is the number you need to strive for. What you do next is divide that 3000 into 6 meals and you get 500 calories to spend per meal. Every meal will not consist of the same amount of calories (as I will explain), so planning ahead of time is crucial in developing a system that works best for you.
The daily caloric intake will vary from person to person depending on Basal Rate Metabolism, your Somatotype, your age, height, weight, and all of those fun calculations to give that precise number we all long for. The thing is, you can find all of those calculations via the internet and be able to figure out around what your body needs. For now, you need to lay down a foundation. Figure out the time you work, the times you can eat, the time you will train and divide the day into 3 hours sections. This meaning that if you wake up at 5:30am and have breakfast at 6am (meal 1), then three hours later (at 9am) will be meal 2. From there every three hours (12pm/3pm/6pm/9pm) will be the times for your other meals. Obviously the world doesn't work that easily, so it's up to you to make sure you get as close to that 3 hour mark as possible. Even if you have to put some meals 2 hours apart and other 4 hours apart, try to get it as close as possible that’s yet still convenient for you.
There are certain times of the day that call for more calories than others. For instance, your meal 1 should be full in complex carbohydrates, proteins, and fats with a substantial amount of calories to start your day off. Coming off a fast calls for a good supply of calories and nutrients to help provide energy for the day ahead. Compared to meal 1, your meal 6 will be significantly reduced in the number of calories as well as the carbohydrates. Your pre-workout meal should be consumed about an hour before you workout, and should be rich in protein and fat. Most days I choose not to add carbohydrates, but when I’m feeling sluggish I do not hesitate to throw some into the mix. I usually use rice cakes covered in a tablespoon or two of Almond Butter.
I am not against carbohydrates pre-workout, I just feel as if I ingest enough in my previous meals. Your PWO shake, as stated before, should be high in protein and carbohydrates. There are other supplements to add to the shake but that will be discussed in the supplement section. Now depending on what time of day you train, your post work out meal (the meal following your shake) should be consistent with your protein, carbohydrates, and fats. This meal should be consumed an hour after your shake, unless you train late at night, then you won't need this meal to be as heavy on the carbohydrate and fat intake. What I am trying to get across to you is that you should have an understanding of which meals need which macronutrients.
By this I mean, when to load up on carbs (early meals and PWO) and when to stay away from them (later meals), when to take in fats (early meals and pre-workout), and when to load up on protein (PWO and meal 1) and when to keep the protein consistent (every other meal). When that's all figured out, only then you can break down which meals need what and at what time do they need to be consumed. The main concept here is that you need to be sure to spread out your meals evenly, and meet the requirements of your caloric intake and the percentages of your macronutrients.

Bodybuilding.com Writer - Roger Lockridge - Brings Attention to Child Abuse Awareness Month
Bodybuilding.com is primarily known as the #1 most visited bodybuilding and fitness site in the world today as well as the #1 online store for all your sports nutrition needs. What is even more amazing about Bodybuilding.com is we cross over into other areas of life and the world. Whether it is the support of our Armed Forces, Kris Gethin's mission and success of so many international transformations, Jamie Eason's victory over cancer, or the incredible journey of Nick Scott.
Bodybuilding.com impacts other areas of life besides physical fitness. Another way we are making a difference is domestic violence and child abuse awareness. April is Child Abuse Awareness Month and one of our top writers is directly connected with these issues.
2009 Male Writer of the Year Roger Lockridge was a past victim as a child and has worked to help others since. Besides writing for Bodybuilding.com and Iron Man Magazine, he works for the Child and Youth Advocacy Center in his hometown of Lewisburg, WV and also speaks on behalf of victims for the Family Refuge Center. On April 4, he spoke to medical students at Mountain State University in Beckley, WV about the importance of screening for potential abuse for all patients.
Patricia Bailey, director of Women’s Resource Center in Beckley, WV was in attendance at the training.
"Having someone like Roger here makes a big difference because not only does Roger not look like the ‘stereotype’ of a victim but he shows that not only can you break the cycle of violence but you can truly go on to make a difference in your area as well as the world. Knowing Roger is out there and people from all over know who he is means people who normally wouldn’t know about the issues will be aware."
Roger has spoken to thousands of people on both domestic violence and child abuse awareness for over ten years.
"There aren't too many men speaking out on these issues and the fitness industry is not a community you associate with domestic violence and child abuse awareness. So as a man who is in this industry I can increase awareness in an industry that would not normally see these issues. I also can show other victims, including kids, that regardless of the situation you are in, you can overcome it and go on to do whatever you want in life. You don’t have to be stuck in that cycle and hope to live a 'normal' life. You can achieve extraordinary things."
Roger will speaking to other groups throughout the year, including the West Virginia Supreme Court in July. His story and work has also been covered as a part of the documentary film, "30".
