Progress, the invisible type

Monday, March 31st, 2008

So with a little encouragement from a friend on here, I decided resolutely that I would take and post progress pictures! The only set back is that I put my camera in my desk drawer and all of a sudden the drawer started sticking and no amount of hurculean effort could free it. I know because I sicced my man-friend on the dirty bastid.

After researching how to pick locks and making a few futile attempts, I dug up a hammer and crowbar and went berserk. It felt good defeating my snotty bitch desk! So yes, I scored a camera, squeezed into my old bikini and snapped away. Excitedly, I copied them to the computer, anticipating big changes. I opened each and studied the pictures pixel by pixel…

And man, what a let down! Given these pictures are only two weeks apart, I don’t see any real noticeable progress - so er, I’m not posting my fat ass on here… yet. I wish I had taken pictures of me at my heaviest. But like all heavy people, pics tend to be avoided at all costs, right?

Till next time!

Pulled muscle blues

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

I’m super excited because I picked up a ski machine this morning to add to my cardio options :D The problem is that I pulled a back muscle stupidly trying to carry it! I feel so DUH for being overwhelmed in my joy and racing to lift it. My first spin on that machine feels like air swimming.

Ski Machine

Needless to say, I’m in pain but I found a nice site to help me treat the symptoms. I’m worried about missing my training for a few days, though, because I’ve been seeing a lot of progress being on the Body for Life program. Just in two weeks I’ve reduced my body fat by 2.5% and my weight by 7.5 lbs. This is with eating cheese curls and pizza on my free day! LOL, life is great.

P.S. I’ll be posting progress pictures soon! :D

Vegetarian recipes (constantly edited)

My mushroom wrap
1 c fresh sliced mushrooms
1/4 c chopped onions
tsp red wine vinegar
tbsp extra virgin olive oil
2 c fresh spinach
1 tbsp low fat feta cheese
1 wheat tortilla

brown the onions in a frying pan with olive oil, add mushrooms and cook until almost juicy, add spinach and cook until leaves are somewhat soft (depends on your preference), in the last moments shake some red wine vinegar over all. Take out and put on a wheat tortilla topped with feta. It’s delicious!

Cottage cheese and grape wrap
1/4 c grapes, quartered
1 serving low fat cottage cheese
wheat tortilla or pita
fresh spinach
alfalfa sprouts

mix cottage cheese and grapes together, place in tortilla with spinach and sprouts, wrap and enjoy! I think this is pretty good.

Egg & guacamole sandwich
2 hardboiled egg whites
2 tbsp guacomole - mashed avocado with tbsp salsa and tbsp chopped onions
2 slices wheat bread

chop the eggs, you can either mix the guacomole with the eggs or spread it on the bread. Voila! Sandwich.

Poor unfortunate souls

Transformation through body building brings to mind the picture of the saggy, lumpy couple in the Little Mermaid who transformed instantaneously into a glamour duo (aka "fit couple") after begging Ursula the sea witch to fix them. (Those with kids have probably watched this movie more than you can stand.)

A couple years ago, we went to see the Boston fireworks display and “fit couple” was perched in front of us on the riverbank. Being a people watcher, I was very intrigued with Fit Couple and aspired that one day I would be like them! Prancing about in short shorts on the river bank, tickling and throwing my hair back, using my peripheral vision to see who’s checking out my ass. Yes, one day my time will come. So for those of you in the middle of your transformation, get those skank clothes ready and don’t hold nothin back! ;)

Poor unfortunate souls
In pain, in need
This one longing to be thinner
That one wants to get the girl
And do I help them?
Yes, indeed

The cries of the carrots!

Hi, my name is … and I’m vegetarian.

Let me give you a two second intro- There is WAY too much temptation out there so I  became vegetarian. Yes! Now I have a cause to fight for, and a cause that guilt trips if I’m bad. Plus, it’s amusing how everyone saves you the "healthy" sandwich at conference meetings. So it’s been pretty cool that is until I hit the restaurants. Frankly, eating out sucks now. "Ugh, pass the salad."

Being on Body for Life is a bit challenging as well since most veggie proteins have more carbs- I’m not into math so I don’t calculate. I just stick with the cottage cheese and eggs; however, I found this helpful link that put it in perspective for me: http://www.bugsmack.com/bflveg.html#2

Genesis: In the Beginning…

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

There was Body for Life.

Yesterday I started the Body for Life challenge. I ramped up the week before, making a binder of progress reports and planning meals and exercises. Tomorrow, I’ll be renting a crickety cargo van to pick up a motherload of exercise equipment. Yes, Mom! I’m spending my stock money on what you would call a ‘clothing rack’ ;) It’s funny (and sad) how many people view any new endeavors with severe skepticism.

So far, so good. I’m eating on plan and not a morsel more. I started upper body on Monday and was scared because I didn’t feel it was as intense as it should have been, but by afternoon my muscles were sore. Yay! Today for cardio, I chose the children’s choice: jump rope. Do you remember becoming exhausted from jumping rope as a kid? Yeah. Me neither. Yet for adults jumping rope is Satan’s little ass kicker.

You know what else is crazy? Taking the week off to clean your house. That is what I’m suppose to be doing now. I bought my house last January and the sellers left half of their house content for me to make do with. Currently, their crap is in my basement and garage. So, I’m dealing with that this week along with my crap, too. Wish me luck! (Yes, I’m blaming the prior owners for this ruined vacation :)

On an ending note, I just want to say thanks for everyone who keeps these blogs and have documented their transformation. I don’t know what I’d do without this site and you gorgeous people.

Dump your boyfriend!

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Hah, only if your significant other is contributing to your idleness, that is! That’s what I did late Dec. Fortunately for me, I didn’t have time to mope about feeling lonely and destitute because I came across Jack Canfield’s "The Success Principles" which helped me document 77 goals, some of which I’ve achieved already! It got me on the fast track to actually putting my dreams into solid goals because as you know, the difference between a dream and a goal is ACTION.

It’s been an amazing three months so far. At the end of last year, I was tired, irritated, crabby, fat and unhappy with myself. My exboyfriend loved to cook so I was accustomed to "2nd dinners" which consisted of a huge plate of pesto pasta and about 5 rolls with butter around 11pm when I was forced to work late at home on a project. Man, we inhaled those rolls. I was at the point where I wasn’t fitting into my FAT clothes. "Shit! I’m not buying larger fat clothes!" I thought, so I decided to do something about it. It meant cutting portions and foregoing the beloved 2nd dinner. I asked to be served on those luncheon plates instead of the god forsaken 15" plates that don’t even fit in my cabinet.

One of my goals brought about by the Success Principles was to get in shape this year. I bought a gazillion fitness dvds to add to my Jane Fonda. I started waking up at the butt crack of dawn, exercising at 5am. It was singularly THE most difficult hurdle I’ve had to face, but I started implementing techniques to help me:

1. Go to bed early for jeebussakes
2. Crank the heat up to 80 in the morning. No one likes to sweat in bed for the wrong reasons ;)
3. Think about your goals. If you do the same thing every day, what do you think you’ll get? The same results.

By early March, I lost 15 lbs and now my fat clothes fit! Woot! It’s a minor accomplishment, but it’s all I need to feed the craving for more results. That’s when I found this website and looked at all the transformations. I kept coming across Body For Life, so I decided to look into it, bought the book and said, "This is it. I’m shedding my fat body."
