#1 Reason that Diets Fail
Since I’ve lost weight I constantly get asked what diet program I used to lose weight. Which miracle program helped me shed all those unwanted pounds?
- Marcus are you “in the zone”?
- Marcus did you use the Atkins diet?
- Marcus do you have a south beach bod?
The answer is No, No, and not yet.
Like many people I tried and tried to use diets and miracle programs to lose weight. I’d start with hopes of miracle results in 10 days and be thoroughly disappointed with the results. It wasn’t until I began to lose weight that I realized why 95% of diets fail.
Diets are SHORT TERM solution (shortcut) to a LONG TERM problem. No amount of tricky pills, widgmos, or diet cycling can compete with evolution. Our bodies are too smart and evolved to fall for short term over night trickery. Long term issues can only be addressed with true behavioral shifts.
That my friends is the #1 reason why diets fail. Our lifelong eating and fitness patterns are out of wack. Think of the way we celebrate. 99% of the time there is cake, wine, pizza, or beer involved. For an entire lifetime we eat these patterns up. Wreaking havoc on our metabolism and muscles. Turning your attention to the matter at hand for a mere minute or 2 won’t do it.
Physically fit people (and the 5% of successful dieters) committ to the correct nourishment and physical fitness plans. No shortcuts allowed.

I agree completely with the behavioral shift (the HARD part) being the key. I’ve heard alot of people say, "The X diet really worked. I lost 30 pounds on it". Only to gain back 40 once they have stopped. The behaviors that contributed to the weight gain weren’t addressed. Great blog!

Haha, I recently had a chat with a friend about his diet (he is committed to eating clean now) and some lady asked if we could please tell her what diet that was….and when I said "healthy eating, a diet for life" her face fell and she was like "uh, ok". Lousy that I could not provide some fancy diet advice.
The behavior part is the hard one for me…I could eat myself fat on apples. Or even carrots.
Good luck!
