4 Weeks Out - Progress Update

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Less than 4 weeks to go now until making my pro debut at the Orlando Europa Supershow of Champions on April 17th!! These pictures were taken Friday evening (3/20). I was down to 125.5 lbs Saturday morning, which is almost 5 lbs less than my stage weight last year at Jr. Nationals. I’m so pleased with the changes I’ve made this year, primarily bringing down my legs and butt and building a more COMPLETE overall package. I just feel so much more stream-lined. Not only that, but I am in the BEST shape of my life! I’ve never felt like super woman at this point in my prep! Don’t get me wrong, there are days when I am definitely dragging and dog tired and just want to eat, eat, eat (I try to tell myself during those time, ‘it’s ok though, I get atleast 8 meals a day, thank goodness’)…but the style of training Mike has me doing is so athletic and dynamic, I just love that there is a really fit athletic girl created in this process, not just a lean physique. It’s empowering :)

It’s the home stretch now…I’m just ready to get on stage!! I sent in my figure athlete contract for the Europa show this past week, so you should see my name on the competitor list shortly :)

Mike Davies Atlanta Fitness Camp Weekend

Thursday, February 5th, 2009
Just got back from a great Fitness Camp weekend in Atlanta! I trained with Mike Davies all weekend and got to hang with some of my good friends. There were 30 of us girls in all. Friday night we had an intense boot camp workout; Saturday I trained at 6am! I was in the early (hard core) training group with Dolores and the Louisiana boys. All three of them are prepping for the Arnold amateur, then there is me, now 10 weeks out from this Friday. Saturday morning we trained Legs, followed by an incline-interval cardio program on the treadmill, then posing was at 11am. Mike had us posing for over an hour! It was really productive input and feedback. My mid-low back is so sore now! Saturday afternoon, it was back for more training: Chest and arms…later that night we all met up for dinner; I had my weekly cheat meal - Chipotle..mmmm! Sunday morning we were in the gym at 6am again, this time training back and shoulders.
I was spent when I got home, but those weekends always feel so productive and it energizes me being around all of my fitness girlfriends :) The support and passion shared for our industry is huge at these camps. I’ll be make every effort to see Mike every 3-4 weeks leading into my pro debut. I was in Columbus 3 weeks ago, this weekend in Atlanta for his traveling camp and in 4 weeks I’ll be back in Columbus to train…I’ll keep ya posted as I go along and with my progress. I feel good about my progress and Mike says I’m right on point, and actually ahead of schedule - yes!

Species Evolutionary Nutrition Booth - Arnold Classic Weekend

Monday, January 5th, 2009
I’m super excited to say that I will be working at the Species Nutrition booth at the Arnold Classic March 6th-8th!! I am proud to be a sponsored athlete with Species in 2009 and represent them at their amazing booth set-up in a couple months. Make sure to stop by and say hi to me if you will be around and try out this tremendous product if you have not already! My favorites are the chocolate Isolyze protein powder (so well refined!), the Lipolyze and the Somalyze for non-stimulant fat-burners. Dave has put together an awesome company and product in Species :)
My prep is going well! I’ve adjusted to my diet and 11 cardio sessions quite well. I go up to Ohio to see Mike Davies this weekend, get my butt kicked in the gym and get a new diet. I’ve posted progress pics taken in the gym after a training session yesterday. Jason has had my workouts body part specific, with some metabolic and functional training incorporated…as he and Mike say, “be an athlete!” I’m the fittest I’ve ever been in my life! My weight is right around 140 lbs…14.5 weeks out.

Training Update

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

As of December 1st, I am officially back on the skinny bitch diet! Haha :) Mike increased my cardio sessions by 6 - yowza!! Up to 11, 20-30 minute sessions a week, and only 2 real carb meals.  The rest are all protein/veggie meals…lots of veggies!! 8-10 meals a day, one cheat meal a week.  My favorite thing to cheat on right now? Fully loaded Chipotle chicken burrito with either Adam’s Peanut Butter Cup Fudge Ripple from the Cheesecake Factory, or a Peanut Butter Butterfinger (made with chocolate ice cream) Blizzard.  The first week on my new diet was pretty darn rough, as I was hungry 20 minutes after eating each of my meals!  My body has began adjusting, producing it’s own insulin, and I’m not nearly as famished…but still REALLY craving my cheat on Saturday!! The first week, I immediately lost 3.5 lbs.  I gained 4 lbs after my cheat last weekend - lol, but I am now down 1lb lighter than I was last week before my cheat meal.  We’ll see where I am at in a couple days, but so many people in the gym have been commenting on how much tighter I am looking…this after only 11 days of dieting!  I’ve never had that happen before, but then again, I’ve never remained in this good of shape all off-season.  Helps when I have a structured diet and exercise plan…never had that before either! I’m getting into the best shape of my life through the holidays and already seeing the fruits of my labor this off-season :)

I’m Thankful

Friday, November 28th, 2008

When you are on a strict and structured eating plan (and/or with someone who is!), it forces you to take the focus of Thanksgiving off of being all about food and more so about what the holiday really represents and being thankful for what we have.  This year has been amazing for me and quite surreal at times. It started off with me making a big U-Turn in life and grabbing life by the horns; some scary but necessary decisions. I got sponsorship early on, had one incredible man advocating, supporting and encouraging me. He believed in me from the moment he saw and met me and never stops dreaming for me and for us. Yes, I am talking about my man and the love of my life, jphilips17 :) I went on to have 3 top finishes at 3 big shows this year; the final show resulting in a pro card! Surreal, so surreal. I was blessed to be in Oxygen Magazine 4 different issues and Maximum Fitness for Men once.  That first shoot in Toronto I’ll never forget, because it was my man that sacrificed so much for me to be there, although I didn’t know this until later…the whole experience brought tears of happiness to me. I moved 3,000 miles away to pursue a dream, to pursue my career where I knew I would thrive…where we knew WE would thrive. I am living my dream…thank God for giving me drive and passion and for never giving up. Thank God I took some risks this year and didn’t just choose to live "safely".  I am so thank ful for my family and certainly for my friends…for real and true friends that will support me and be behind me no matter what…for those friends that are genuinely happy for all of my successes this year, and that have made me laugh (wannagetlean!) and find humor during any difficult times.  This has been the most rewarding year of my life thus far,and I am so grateful for all of the opportunities I have had. I work with an amazing coach in Mike Davies, and an amazing training partner in Jason, as he continues to shape and build my body in the gym into the best Pro physique I can have.

I could go on and on, and that is truly the special thing about this holiday when we really take the time to focus on the GOOD in our lives. I have SO much that I am thankful for. This is an amazing industry, and the more we support and encourage and try to learn from one another, the more successful and blessed we all become!! Happy Thanksgiving!!
