I goofed. I got off of my diet this weekend. Not w-a-a-a-ay off like binging on cookies and cakes, diving into vats of dr. pepper while wearing twinkie floaters. More like missing meals, having rice and tamales for one meal with enchillada sauce instead of a protein shake. However, I am paying for it now.

My weight ballooned up to 228.5 this morning. That’s almost where I began 3 months ago. I will not go back there. So, at least this is a reminder of what will happen if I slack. No more slacking. Bad Matt, no cookie.

Speaking of cookies, we’re finally getting the last few bits of cookies out of the house tonight! We hold a "lock-in" every year at the church for 6th-12th graders on New Year’s eve and thought that they would appreciate all of our holiday treats. Yay! Only bad part is that I’ll be locked in a building with 50+ bags of chips and pretzels, 50+ 2 liters of Mountain dew and coke/pepsi, a table of cookies, and some nice sugary cereals for breakfast. Wish me willpower and time this week! Also, I think I’ll pack myself a few meals :)

goals this week: Stick to the diet for 7 days straight. Get all 3 weight sessions in. add at least 2 extra cardio sessions in between the weight sessions.

goals for today: keep diet clean, get my meals in. Squats. don’t cheat at Lock-in tonight

What I ate yesterday:

meal 1: met-rx bar, 1 cup coffee, 1000 mg fish oil, 1 multivitamin, 1 niacin

meal 2: 2.5 beef tamales, 2 C cilantro lime rice, 1/3 C enchillada sauce, 34 oz water, 1000 mg fish oil

meal 3: 6 oz smoked ham, 6 oz turkey breast, brown mustard, 1/4 C pickles 34 oz water

meal 4: 1 tortilla, 2 T brown mustard, 2 oz chedder, 4 oz turkey breast, 34 oz water

bedtime: 1000 mg fishoil

sleep: 8 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hehe, it’s a good pain.

Well, I had a good deadlift session yesterday. I’ve been very lax in the lift, as well as in back training in general, for the past several months. Well, yesterday was time to pikitup again. Suprisingly I havn’t lost too much strength in the lift. All of them went up cleanly and smoothly. However, my once calloused and gnarled manly hands have gone the way of wussy-dom (something my wife actually appreciated) and now are still burning from the knurling. But, it’s a "good pain". My traps and lats are the slightest bit stiff from yesterday’s work as well. I actually feel like I did something yesterday! Yay!

This morning I weighed in half a pound lighter. Not bad for no real cardio yesterday. I did 7 minutes of H.i.i.t. in with my weights, but that was it.

Today’s Goal: Cardio (30 min to an hour), stretch, eat right all day.

What I ate yesterday:

meal 1: 2 whole eggs, 3 T salsa, 1/2 C oatmeal, 1 banana, 34 oz water, 1000 mg fishoil, 1 multivitamin, 1 niacin,

meal 2: met-rx bar, 16 oz water

meal 3: 12 oz low-fat chicken enchillada: 8 oz chicken breast, salsa, 2 oz low fat pepper cheese, wheat tortilla, 34 oz water, 1000 mg fish oil

meal 4: protein shake, 16 oz water

meal 5: 1 can tuna, 2 T salsa, 16 oz water

meal 6: 8 oz chicken breast, 1 C each peas, carrots, green beans, 1 pear, 34 oz water

meal 7: 4 oz elk sausage, 4 oz boar sausage, 16 water

bedtime: 1000 mg fishoil

sleep: 7 hours! (10:15-2:15, 2:45-4:45, 5-6:45, then a bit till 7:20)

After looking at my meals for the last few posts, I think I may be taking in too many cheeses. I’m going to cut those down.

relapse, but temporary

Friday, December 28th, 2007

holbee

The Christmas elves gave me another gift this season, a few of the pounds and %’s that I had misplaced. This weeks check-in shows me at 226 lbs and 23.7%. Not good on either end. However, I deserve it. Thing is, I will deserve to loose it again as well soon.

Did a full chest/shoulder/tri workout yesterday along with 6 minutes H.i.i.t and 30 min. cardio following. Ate clean. Slept about 6 hours. All in all a pretty full day otherwise.

Goal: Deadlifts and cardio today

What I ate yesterday:

meal 1: 2 whole eggs, 2 T salsa, 1/2 C oatmeal, 1 banana, 34 oz water, 1000 mg fish oil, 1 multivitamin, 1 niacin,

meal 2: 1 met-rx bar, 16 oz water

meal 3: 1 chicken sandwich on onion roll, 1 slice provolone, 1 C onion soup, 16 oz water, 2 C coffee

meal 4: 1 protein shake, 34 oz water, 1 apple

meal 5: 1 can tuna, 2T salsa, 16 oz water

meal 6: 8 oz turkey breast, 4 slices rye, 4 oz chedder cheese, 3 T brown mustard, 34 oz water

Meal 7: 8 oz chicken breast, 4 oz jalapeno chedder, 4T onion, 16 oz water

Meal 8: 4 oz antelope sausage (yes, antelope. My sister works at Cabella’s and got me a wild game sampler for christmas. Exotic protein, yum!)

Christmas Eve

Monday, December 24th, 2007

holbee

Woo hoo! Christmas Eve!

Things look pretty good today. My sleep was a LOT better last night as the eldest slept all night and the youngest only woke up 2 or 3 times. I also went to bed early to get a few more hours in a row and I feel the difference today. Too bad the scale didn’t show the difference. I wouldn’t care if it wasn’t for the weight classes that I lift in. I’m honestly not too concerned with how much gravity likes my body otherwise. I’m much more concerned with health and strength. Anyway…

My weight is up this morning. I had some extra carbs yesterday and wasn’t clean like I should have been. No excuses, just mistakes. I’ve learned from them. We did have a great day yesterday with Christmas Caroling, worship, and parties. Looking forward to services tonight and Christmas morning for my boys tommorrow!

Goals today: bench workout, 30 min cardio, EAT CLEAN!

What I ate (on Sunday):

meal 1: 1 met-rx bar, 34 oz water, 1000 mg fishoil, 1 multivitamin, 1 niacin, 1 cup coffee, 34 oz water

meal 2: 2 C spaghetti, 2 T butter, 1 T garlic, 1/3 C shredded chedder. 34 oz water (Yes, I know this was a terrible meal. I won’t make excuses or explainations here either.)

meal 3: 1 protein shake, 16 oz water

meal 4: 1 metrx bar

meal 5: (also known as ‘Matt’s 2nd big dietary mistake of the day’) 5 gingersnaps, 1 C coffee, 2 T cherry cheese spread, 2 whole wheat crackers, 1 gingerbread man

meal 6: 14 oz chicken, 3 large carrots, 34 oz water, 1 C red wine,

bedtime: missed my suppliments :(

sleep: 10:45 pm-2am, 2:40-6am, 6:35-7:05: 7hours total

Need to balance

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

holbee

I need to work on balance. Not symmetry, balanace. This week (or two, I don’t remember now) has been about dialing in my diet and adding some extra sessions of low-medium intensity cardio. This has gone very well. However, I’ve not lifted in a week or so and my sleep pattern is still wa-a-a-ay off. This weekend doesn’t bode well for fixing either of the two either.

I read somewhere that "every minute is a chance to start again", and "Don’t make the mistake of saying ‘I’ve lost, I’ll wait till Monday to start over.’". I love these concepts and keep trying to correct myself when I slip into the latter idea to remember the former. Maybe I’ll start daily goals as well as a way to focus on getting things done more consistently.

I’ll dial this in yet. Any advice or encouragement (even if its tongue-in-cheek) is welcome :)

ok, goals for today: eat clean (even at party tonight). Squat workout, and add at least 20 min extra cardio into the day.

What I ate yesterday:

meal 1: 2 whole eggs, 1T salsa, 1/2 C oatmeal, 1 banana, 1000 mg fish oil, 1 multivitamin, 1 niacin, 34 oz water

meal 2: metrx bar, 16 oz water

meal 3: 1 can tuna, 3 C salad, 2 T greek dressing, 1000 mg fish oil, 2 fat burners, 34 oz. water

meal 4: 1 protein shake, 16 oz. water

meal 5: 1 met-rx bar (no water)

meal 6: 12 oz ground turkey, 1 whole egg, 4 slices rye bread, 1/4 C shredded chedder, 3 T brown mustard, 50 oz water, 1/4 C egg nog w/ nutmeg,

meal 7: 3 C popcorn, 3 oz ground beef, 5 oz fat free refried beans, 34 oz water

bedtime: 2 fat burners, 1ooo mg fishoil, 6 oz water

sleep: approx 4 hours between midnight and 8 am

Quick post to update the previous one from only a few hours ago. I pretty much tripled my caloric intake yesterday and only added 2- 20 minute light-moderate cardio sessions. I’ve already lost 1 pound.

one day, one pound, triple my normal calories. No wanting to snack at 10 pm, no starving before dinner, no growling stomach at the office or during visitations.

Yeah, I think that I can do this :) .

Thanks Will (pilotmaf) and Julie (jschott65)!!!!
