My First Contest
Well, let's start off with the run down of how my day went. First, I was up by 6 a.m. putting on my face makeup and at the venue by 7 a.m. to get my 2nd coat of spray on tan and to check in. Then, I went back to the hotel to curl my hair and put on my suit. Was back for the 9:30 a.m. competitors meeting. Then, it was backstage with the other gals, prepping. We were after the bodybuilders and the fitness girls. I pumped up right before we went on stage and one of the girls oiled me up. I had a great time on stage. I was not nervous at all and I was very confident. I remembered to smile. We were done by noon and I headed back to the room for some r&r. I went online and checked emails, did some texting and took a nap. I was up at 4 p.m. to touch up makeup and fix hair. Arrived at the venue at 5 p.m. for the big show. I had the tanning people touch up my tan and then I pumped up and had them apply the oil. They asked us to do something different than what I had practiced. This probably made my appearance on stage not as polished. Still, I wasn't nervous and I had a great time although I felt bloated and I suspect the banana chips were the culprit. They gave us our score cards after they announced the top 5. I placed 11th out of 11, but on a high note one of the judges gave me a 3rd place ranking. The problem was they strike out the highest and lowest ranking and then use the mode to select the placing. So even though me and the 10th place finisher got the same total points since she got mostly 10s she got 10th and since I got mostly 11s my placing was 11th.
To celebrate, we went to a restaurant called Azteca. I had carnitas fajitas with flour tortillas and broccoli, mushrooms, and carrots instead of peppers and onions. Then, we topped it all off with Stone Cold ice cream. I had a small peanut butter ice cream with mini chocolate chips. (side note I took home 1/2 of both the meal and the dessert and finished it the next day).
All in all it was an enjoyable experience. I exchanged phone numbers with a lady from Missoula (2 hours from my town), I got some great tanning pointers and the name of a better tanning product from one of the lady body builders, and the satisfaction of setting a goal and going through with it to the end.
As for the future, I will do more shows next year. Looking at the pics my hubby took. I will definitely work more on my posing.
Congrats on your first compettion. Sounds like you had fun. Did you speak to the judges afterward? That's the best way to get feedback so you know what you need to work on. Scores are just numbers. It may not be too late to email the head judge and ask if you didn't. Glad you had fun - that's the most important thing! Now celebrate then get back at it!
Congrats girl! Its sounds like you had a great time and thats what counts! Enjoy your treats...you deserve them :)
Congrats Wendy!! Competing sounded like quite the thrill and experience. Sounds like a learning process...glad others were being positive help while prepping, competing, .etc. Good "First Contest" experience and many more in future maybe? Cheers, Bryan
Congratulations! I admire your courage to set a goal and go for it. I hope to have the courage to compete sometime next year! :-)
