Saturday 6/14/08 - Competeing at the INBA Mr. Millenium TODAY
Today is a big step on my way to earning my pro-card next month. Today I compete at the Mr. & Mrs Millenium in Tahoe. The reason I am doing this show is to try out the diet that I got from Jeff Willet IFBB pro bodybuilder and AST Sports Science endorsed athlete. It seems like it is working well and we will find out today if it was worth the effort.
Nutrition: The only changes today is that instead of having chicken, I have beef with two of my meals. I will alter the timing of the meals slightly to co-inside with the competition. I want to have the potatos and VP2 with a little water about 20-30 minutes before I go on stage.

Show summary: There were 10 guys in the Open class and for the first time ever I was in the tall class. Unfortunately my buddy Ken and I would be in the same class as he was the tallest guy there. Our plan to go at it for the overall would have been perfect when they first diveded us up, but there is always a fly in the ointment. Standing next to me was a VERY well known and multiple time champion body builder who goes by the name "Mr. Peka" He is massive, 200 pounds, about 5′9" or so, ripped and confident. At first they had me in the medium class with him, but that would have left 2 in the tall, 5 in the medium, and 3 in the short. They saw that I had my shoes off so they opted to put me in the tall class. I had mixed emotions about that as I did not want to be in the same class as Ken, but certainly did not want to be standing next to Peka in the Medium class though either.
After prejudging it seemed that I would win the tall class beating out my buddy Ken. Prejudging was tough as a killer migrane headache had set in as we were pumping up and it was making me want to puke. It leveled off just before prejudging and felt much better afterward. My client Dianna, who won the novice division, had a room and was nice enough to let us hang out. Ken, his wife Sandy, and Jame went to the store to get some food and I went up to the room and passed out for a solid 1/2 hour.
I had my steak meal at 4:00pm and we headed back down for what would be a VERY memorable night. I took my time getting ready as it appeared that I would be going against Peka and the winner of the short class for the overall. I waited as long as I could to get my carbs and water in, then started pumping up about 7:30pm or so. Peka would win the medium class and it was our turn on stage. I did my 90 second individual routine and we had the pose down for the tall class. It was fun posing with Ken and I think we put on a good show. Sure enough I would win the tall class. As we walked off stage, with a huge rush of emotion Ken looked back at me and said with passion, "Dude I sh&t you not, I am harder than Peka, you can do this, YOU CAN BEAT HIM!!" Suddenly a rush of energy surged over me and I got a huge tingle down my spine. "Keep telling me that Ken" I said. He was really pumping me up and as we walked out on stage, I felt like a million bucks.
The judges worked us hard and started asking us to do poses I had never done before. Practiced yes, but never actually done on stage, they worked us for what seemed like a solid 30 minutes. Every pose I flexed every muscle in my body as hard as I could and held it. My quads, hamstrings, and glutes felt they would cramp at times, but I just kept cranking my muscles as hard as I could. I could here Ken coaching me off stage. On one of the turns I looked off stage and the all of the athletes had gathered off stage to watch. It seemed as though being the under dog, they were pulling for me. I was no where near as massive, but everyone kept telling me, I was much harder and define. Finally the judges called for the pose down, they had made thier decision. I was in my own world at first, then I started matching poses with Peka. Trying to make the comparisons entertaining. He was massive, but at times looked soft. I felt stupid at first, but was gaining confidence with every turn. I really got jazzed when I saw Peka walk away and stand on the other side of the short competitor. I felt like there was me…..and no one else, just me.
Finally they had us stop and I held my front relaxed pose. The M.C. took her time announcing the winner as always and as I stood on the end with Peka between me and the short class winner, I kept telling myself that I had it, even though in my heart, I did not believe it. Finally the moment of truth came, "The winner of the Mr. and Mrs. Millenium 2008 Overall Mens Bodybuilding is contestent…………… number 25, Brad Loomis! I heard my number and I was in disbelief, I raised my hands eyes as big as saucers, looked and Jamie and saw that she was overcome with emotion. For just a moment I was not sure if I had won. I heard my number, but with the rush of emotion I had not heard my name. But the short class winner and Peka came over to shake my hand and it was confirmed in my mind, I had won, I HAD BEATEN PEKA! I was so happy I was literally jumping on the stage. My left foot is still sore I was stomping and jumping so hard. MAN what a way to spend fathers day weekend.
Every one was congratulating me as the underdog had won. It seemed like a popular win with both the athletes and the audience as Mr. Peka was heavily favored. He was just coming off a huge win a few months ago at the Iron Gladiator as the Overall winner failed the drug test. But tonight I was "The peoples CHamp" it would seem. Every one kept telling me I was harder and more cut than him and that I had a chance to beat him. I guess they were right.
I will use tomorrow as a re-feed day and eat more food than usual, but not pig out on junk food. Just a lot of clean, healthy food and start getting my body back to normal. I will still workout as always. Back training with my buddy Ron, and cardio in the evening, but nutrition will be a little less formal and scheduled. Then back on the diet Monday.
